This is another of Harlequin's Billionaires and Babies series. Ms. Bennett's ability to tell a story is never in question. What bothers me is the inconsistencies in the story, that I assume come from the editing. For example, Charlotte Price is EXTREMELY hormonal when she is barely one month pregnant. Charlotte also hides her miscarriage from her husband. If he is a big shot movie director, it is not likely that his wife could have a miscarriage while he was away on a movie shoot and some news l...more

Whatever the Price is a heart wrenchingly beautiful and passionate re-union story.

Anthony Price is a big time Hollywood director who is so focused on his work and being the best that he literally took his wife Charlotte for granted which lead to the breakup of their marriage.

When Anthony’s niece is orphaned and he is named guardian he request Charlotte’s help to get full legal custody of Lily. Anthony looks on this opportunity as a second chance; he knows he has ma...more

Friday night I was on my way to Helena to see Avenue Q with my husband and I wasn't really feeling like reading a regency period novel. So, I decided to read Jules Bennett recent book Whatever the Price. Here's what the story is about:

Life in the Hollywood spotlight is never easy, especially when you are a big time movie director with a rocky marriage that's heading to divorce. Then fate drops another bombshell into your lap in a form of a baby.

Good book. Anthony is the previously unknown brother of Bronson Dance from Caught in the Spotlight. Now his marriage is in trouble and he has his orphaned niece to take care of. Charlotte left three months earlier when she got tired of always being the lowest on his list of priorities. Now Anthony is at her door, begging her to come back, at least until after he has full legal custody of his niece. She can't turn her back on the baby, but she's worried that Anthony will simply try to seduce her...more

Both Charlotte and Anthony suffered so much. A little communication would have helped and when trying to work things out, compromise is needed on both sides. Life is never perfect but love goes a long way to making it close to perfect. Anthony pulled out the stops to show he could change but Charlotte was hard to convince and just when she thought it was possible, something happened that lead her to believe the opposite. For Anthony, he was willing to pay Whatever the Price was but sometimes it...more

I picked this book up because I believe Ms. Bennett is a local author (well, she lives in Ohio, so take "local" for what it's worth). I was very pleasantly surprised and will certainly be reading more of her books! I felt the first half was a bit slow, because both hero and heroine spent a lot of time thinking about their relationship, so there was a LOT of interior monologue, but around the halfway point the book picked up. Very enjoyable read.

I have two complaints about two "tropes" employed in the this book:

1) Heroines who are hanging onto animosity because the hero, whom she hadn't told she was pregnant, was out of town when she had a miscarriage prior to the book beginning. It's not like he missed the miscarriage to spite her. He a) didn't know she was pregnant and b) didn't know she was going to miscarry when he was away.

2) Heroines who are mad that their husbands aren't around because they have well-paying jobs that allow her to...more

Even though this book is listed as a paperback I read it on Kindle. It was fun to read about a couple who were already married and fighting to stay that way. This story also had one of my favorite themes. Secret babies.

A must read! I read the last page and realized I was smiling. The only bad part? It ended. I miss them already.
