I really need to go back and figure out a proper system for these three stars. I need half stars since I consider 4 stars a love it, would buy it, and five stars is "read it now!"

So we'll call it 3.5: Good, solid, and entertaining read.

I don't think I've read any of the other Scumble River mysteries, or if I have it's so long ago that I remember nothing. This is apparently book 15 which I suspect means that if I'd been reading along until now, my rating might be affected. As it was I didn't feel...more

Our lead sleuth, Skye Dennison, is beyond thrilled that, after countless delays from church, law, and families, her long awaited nuptials with Police Chief Wally Boyd are firming up. Just in time too as the ghost in her house constantly lets Skye know her opinions on the subject. This was a fun section to read.

Adding to the ghostly situation is the fact that an acid-tongued woman judge in a local cat show was found dead by, you guessed it, Skye. Being as Skye is a Psychological Consultant with S...more

Cat's Meow is the 15th book in Scumble River series by Denise Swanson.

It's always nice to spend some time in Scumble River visiting with school psychologist Skye Denison.

Bunny Reid, ex-Vegas showgirl, has returned to Scumble River and has purchased the local bowling alley. Bunny, Frannie and Justin were sitting around talking about increasing business and the idea of a Cat Show and Speed Dating, they decided would be a big boom. So they go ahead with there plans and things organized. They were e...more

I did not like this book as much as some of Denise Swanson's other Scumble River offerings. Maybe it was because, for me, Scumble River has always been a "character" in the book, and in this one it seemed to be less a part of the story. Maybe it was because the plot seemed a little more forced than usual. Less humor, less tension in the family relationships. Maybe a little too romance-feeling for me.

I still liked it. I gave it 4 stars - three seems like a "C" grade to me, when it is a solid "B"...more

This was a fun book. Skye and her friends are back and I couldn’t be any happier. First Skye has to deal with a murder, then plans for her upcoming wedding and finally a way to de-haunt her house of Mrs. Griggs. I enjoyed the way the mystery played out keeping me in suspense especially when the killer was revealed. I especially love how Skye and Wally continue to work together to tackle police investigations. Boasting a great cast of characters, great dialogue and friendly interaction, this was...more

The newest addition to the Scumble River series is a giant snoozefest. Not a lot happens. The murder seems to take a backseat while we read all about how awesome and perfect Skye and Wally are and while we see Skye tell everyone about her wedding. Oh, and Skye's ghost, which, if this turns out to be an actual ghost, I'm going to be pissed. This isn't a supernatural series. I feel the same way about those stupid Between the Numbers books in the Stephanie Plum series. There's also the boring subpl...more

School psychologist Skye Denison finds herself helping her friend Bunny with her combined cat-show and speed dating weekend. When a woman who has antagonized most of the attendants is found murdered, the lead suspect is a brain damaged man who flees, seemingly confirming his guilt. Fortunately, Wally, Skye's fiance and the local police chief, is willing to investigate further. Skye juggles her work responsibilities, wedding planning and detecting to help Wally in her role as the police departmen...more

First, I hope Denise Swanson keeps writing this series. It is definitely a favorite of mine and even if there are a few things I do not like, I would hate to see it go.

Murder of a Cat's Meow is the 15th book in the Scumble River Mysteries (and the 17th story as there are two novellas). The Scumble River Mysteries focus on the town of Scumble River, Illinois and school psychologist/police psychological consultant Skye Dennison. This small farming community is continually the hub of some wacky goi...more

I didn't like this book as much as some in the series. The dialog was a little wooden in spots and plot development depended a little too much on Skye finally remembering things. Swanson does create colorful characters. Here's one of my favorite descriptions: "Hair dyed one shade beyond believability was swept into a towering beehive with a huge swirl riding low over her forehead. Her earrings, made from bullet casing, dangled nearly into her cleavage." Swanson writes with humor, always a plus.

Just finished this one...It is just so nice to pick up the latest book in this series and know it is going to be another consistently good story. I have really grown fond of Scumble River and its assorted inhabitants. Things are finally progressing for Skye and this fan of fiction is happy about it. The usual clever puns and dialogue, adventure and small-town life that somehow never gets old. Thanks for another great addition to the series.

Reading these books really makes you feel like you are visiting old friends. The further in the series I go, the more I feel like I have really come to know the characters and can expect what they are going to do next. I must say, in this book, I was more interested in the development of the characters than I was the actual mystery that was playing out. Great job to Denise Swanson for making the readers feel as much a part of the town of Scumble River as the characters she created.

Denise is back on track! I really love this series but have felt the last few weren't as good as the first ones were. Murder of the Cat's Meow has a different premise and I didn't figure out the murderer until Skye did. This was an enjoyable read.

If you work in a school and have ever had to deal with IEPs, testing, or other school issues you will relate to Skye. Always enjoy reading about her school adventures on top of the different murders she helps solve.

This is the first book I read of this series. I like how it's easy to follow, simple, and the chapters are short. I'm not usually into mysteries, but this one is entertaining.
Kristin
This was an okay read. Pretty typical of the series. I like the fact that the characters aren't stagnant. They grow and change instead of staying exactly the same for 15 books.
Gretchen
Skye stumbles on the murdered body of an obnoxious cat show judge. She and Wally try to catch the murderer. Also, they finally set the date for their wedding.
Nancy
I've been following Denise Swanson's series since the beginning. An enjoyable read. I look forward to hearing what happens to Skye Denison in her next book.
Mary Kay
Another readable mystery starring school psychologist Sky Dennison in Scumble River, the apparent murder capitol of Illinois!
Glenna
This was not my favorite story in this series. Is it possible that I've just read too many about this particular town?
Kathy
I always enjoy the Scumble River mysteries. They're funny and light, an easy read, and quite entertaining.
Katie
Not my favorite, but still a good read. Managed to keep me tied in well enough to finish in under 24 hours :)
Erin
As always Denise Swanson delivered a quirky, entertaining mystery! Love this series and the characters.
Sue

Joshirl Rayford
I really missed this series and I am glad that its back...looking forward to the wedding.

This is one of my favorite series, but not my favorite book. There were too many subplots and the one I thought was going to lead into the next book was all finished by the end of this one.
Tarina
Another great read by Denise Swanson.
Bevjirwin
typical cozy-nice to read one every so often.
Holly
