This deliciously entertaining book based in Florida, is a murder mystery taking place over the duration of a conference of food critics and cookbook authors. The attendee characters run a gamut of restless, snobbish, overzealous, and friendly, but all have secrets buried and the star speaker has just announced that there should be clarity and transparency in the writings of all, basing it particularly on transparency of who the original recipes come from. One might expect this to be a reasonable...more

Hayley is thrilled when she gets her dream job as food columnist for a local newspaper in Key West, even though the publisher has a grudge against her. She hopes that this weekend's food symposium, with all kinds of restaurant critics, will give her a big story, even though her mother has come down from New Jersey to interfere, I mean visit. Death in Four Courses is set in Key West. Hayley Snow is the new food critic for Key Zest magazine. Her first big assignment will be at the Key West literary conference whose theme for this year is food writing. That fits perfectly into Hayley's world as both she and her mom are dedicated foodies. The conference barely gets started before Hayley finds a body in one of the hotel's reflection pools. Soon both Hayley and her mom are conducting their own investigation of the crime. This is a light,...more

I liked the book BUT Ms. Burdette needs to be clearer on characters. The "old" friends just pop in to play without a clear idea of who they are. Ms. Burdette should realize that she is not the only author out there (and that many people read numerous books by numerous authors throughout the year) and that her books are published months apart. Considering this is her 2nd novel in the Key West series, it is very realistic to forget who the characters are from the first installment.

What a great time I had reading this delightful whodunit with a mystery that had me turning the pages quickly as the story moved forward in this well-written drama. Hayley is a fun character and I love her joyous spirit as she goes about her day critiquing food and seeing justice served on a platter. The appearance of her mother hunting down clues with her is a welcome bonus that I also enjoyed. I can’t wait for the next book in this wonderful series.

I received a copy of "Death in Four Courses" as a Goodreads ARC giveaway. This was such a fun mystery to read. Ms. Burdette's characters are very realistic and easy to identify with. The story moves along swiftly and the plot does not slow down it keeps a steady pace until the last page. She is very good at keeping the villian secret until the very end with no obvious clues as to who it is. Good job - wish I had had the opportunity to read her first volume.

Hayley is covering the foodie conference for her editor and going to several Key West restaurants too. Her mom has come for a visit to attend the conference with Hayley. But the conference has a rough start with the keynote speaker chastising everyone to be honest and truthful. Later the keynote speaker is found dead in a pool by Hayley.

A fun food cozy mystery series and set in a fantasy vacation spot of mine. One day....I will get to Key West.
Hayley has landed her dream job of food critic for "Key Zest", a local magazine. She now has to keep it. She attends the annual Key West literary conference which is focusing on chefs and their books.
One such chef, a big name the conference is supremely pleased to have on the panels, is out to tell the truth. And someone kills him to keep him from spilling whatever truth that might be....more

I didn't like this book nearly as much as the first book in this new series, An Appetite for Murder. I thought that the murder mystery at the core and its ultimate solution were not very convincing. As in the first book, the characters were well drawn and the Key West setting was as enticing as ever.

Andrea Stoeckel
Not as good as the first book in the series. The best paets are the backstory of the main character, Haley Snow and her family and friends. Thwre is also a oreview of the next book due out this May and I can hardly wait! This is a series I hope will continue a long time.

I didn't really like the first one of these so should have probably stopped there. Don't know what possessed me to pick this one up. Don't care for the heroine. I find her to be a ditz myself. Will make a note to myself to definitely leave the next one alone.

2.5 stars. This took me a little while to read, as it was not as fast paced as the first book in the series. I think the Food Writers Conference theme was a little lacking, as it meant the main character was stuck watching lectures all day and not really out and about in Key West. I still love the fact that she lives on a houseboat, and I love Miss Gloria, her elderly housemate. But I have to say all the negativity toward the main character's mother accepting alimony, and all of the descriptions...more

This second in the Key West Food Critic series is not nearly as entertaining as the first. I found it a bit slow to get into. I hoped there would be more character development but was disappointed. I am not sure I will continue with the series.
Deshay
"Fun" cozy mystery that utilizes the quirkiness of Key West as one of the strong parts of the book. Characters were fleshed out a little more in this second of the series.
Elisabeth
I couldn't get through this book. I wanted to like it as I loved the first in the series, but even with forcing myself back twice, I couldn't get even halfway through it.
Carol
Fast paced, interesting characters, delicious recipes mix with murder. There are humorous happenings throughout the book that add to the color of living or visiting in Key West.
Kathy
A foodie mystery set in Key West. Setting is gorgeous but a little too much food description for my taste.
Sandy
I enjoyed the first half of the book. But I found it very tough to get through the second half.
Tamara
Love Hayley- this little mystery was good. Food critic talk, Hayley in a beginning romance.
Nancy
Key West food critic solves mysteries!

Reading about Haylee Snow and her Key West life is like a mini vacation to the good life. Burdette is careful to detail the locale in a way that makes you feel like a native. Haylee is an honest and vulnerable character who would be great fun to hang out with, even if she dragged you into a murder or two. In this outing Haylee's mom is in on the fun and the story is richer for her presence. I can't wait for the next Key West Food Critic mystery!
Dolly
It was okay.
Deb
What an enjoyable book. Key West is a great setting and I'm really liking the characters in this series. Can't wait for the next installment!

Another fun cozy. I really like food focused cozies and this series is a fun one. Hayley is a food critic for a local Key West magazine and is on her way to a food writing convention with her mother. While there she discovers the key note speaker drowned in a water feature. What ensues is a mother/daughter sleuthing adventure.
Laurie Franco
Really enjoyed this book. Thought that the characters were well thought out and likeable. Hayley and her mom were great and her mom was one if my favorite characters! I was surprised by "whodunit" as well! Recommend this book as a great quick read, AND you get recipes as the end a la Diane Mott Davidson! Bonus!!!

For whatever reason, this book was just o.k. for me. I didn't hate it or have overly strong feelings about it at all. It was just o.k. I like the characters, I think they are well written and interesting, but the story itself felt flat and I found myself skimming a lot. Not sure if I'll read the next one.
