The story had a good start, but it never seemed to get off the ground. Dragged in parts, I ended up skipping paragraphs. Normally I wouldn’t finish a book that doesn’t keep my interest, but since this is only about 150 ebook pages (and I was hoping something would happen) I finished it.

I’m a big fan of Alexandra Ivy, but this was not my cup of tea.

This book has been on my shelves as one of the many on my TBR list. I decided to give it a chance. Being that I Alexandra Ivy's other books that are in the Guardians of Eternity series. And I LOVED that series. So I moved this up in front of the others on my shelf.

i did not like this book one bit. its probaly because im the type that doesnt like to read about the female lead who thinks she's stronger and can stand up to temptation...but does the exact opposite!!!! seriously, i like to read books that are like this, but not when the female is too weak to even stand on her own two feet when she see's the male lead. not recommended to those who like strong women, and recommended to those who like to read sayings from the old days like...."you...worm"!. seriously, she called ravel a worm, wow what a saying, it sure "insulted" his feelings.
im sorry alexandra but i gave up after reading the first hundred pages.

Gideon Ravel is one of three vampires commissioned to locate and protect (one of the three) medallions placed in the care of human females in the mortal realm. Hidden behind the “Veil” for over 200 years, vampires no longer hunt or feed from humans. But rogue vampires have started to cross between the realms in search of new blood and power. And the power of the Medallion is the lure. But the heat between Gideon and his target is unexpected and unwelcome. Lady Simone Gilbert is a woman desired by many men in the Ton (upper class society of historical England). And Simone buries a secret or two so deep she would die before revealing the knowledge or source. But a recent social function has introduced the mysterious Gideon Ravel and he too, has some secrets he is not willing to share with Lady Simone.

Tristan is a rogue vampire who has crossed the ‘Veil’ into the mortal realm. The lure of the Medallion has blinded Tristan to the orders of the Council. Uncaring and without conscience, Tristan intends to reek havoc amongst the humans, hoping to distract Gideon Ravel from his charge-the Lady Gilbert. But Tristan did not count on Gideon becoming personally involved with his assignment. But secrets have a way of surfacing and blackmail becomes the weapon of choice, when Tristan makes an offer to Simone that could ruin her reputation amongst the elite of England’s high society.

My Lord Vampire is an easy read. There is no sex, foul language and the violence is minimal (as minimal as a vampire novel allows). The attraction between the couple is evident from the start, but both refuse to give in to their desires or the heat of the moment. The relationship is slow to build, but in the end, the pleasure of the HEA is not unexpected or unwelcome.

Called to the Council to to serve them he believes another vampire could better serve to protect a mortal, he is not as skilled as some of his brethren, but cannot deny a Council request so he returns to the mortal realm and crosses the Veil to seek out this threat.

Enter Lady Gilbert, a Ton (high society, upper class person) who only lives to entertain the high class, upper class of society and is the woman most Ton men seek to court and marry. She keeps them all at a distance so as not to get involved with them. She lives in elegance and extravagance as most Ladies do, her house has marble stair with intricate patterns and only the finest of everything. One night her world takes a turn she did not expect as Gideon seemingly appears out of nowhere at one of her gatherings, by which one can only enter by invitation.

Gideon is introduced to Lady Gilbert and she acts aloof towards him as she tries to make it clear he is unwanted and not invited to her gathering. Gideon, or Mr. Ravel as she initially takes to calling him only disdainfully, is rather intrigued at her ability to not be lured and seduced by his charms. He does manage to get under her skin at how he thinks so highly of himself and claims as much to Lady Gilbert. He claims she WILL be calling on him and then mysteriously walks out on her. This flusters her to no end and only keeps her more enticed by the mystery he does hold. Gideon on the other hand find this golden haired angel enticing and find that it stirs old dead emotions he long thought were well captured and dulled with living behind the Veil.

They encounter many troubles as the reason for Gideon's return to the mortal realm is nearly right in front of him. The rogue vampire is already aware that Lady Gilbert is one of the three and he will stop at nothing to get his hands/claws on that medallion. Gideon knows he is at a disadvantage because the rogue has more power, but still he must protect the Veil from coming down and reeking havoc on human-kind. Lady Gilbert thinks she doesn't need protection, but she didn't know it was someone she already knew. When Gideon can't seek out the rogue he takes to keeping page boys watching over Lady Gilbert's every move and to call on him if anything suspicious happens.

As they start to come to grips with the hard cold truth that they are falling in love, they both harbor dark secrets they think will send the other running for the hills and never looking back. This prevents them from trusting each other fully and truly acknowledging their feelings. Its only once the old, powerful vampire appears to each of them on her terms that they reveal their secrets and find love. However, the rogue has plans for both of them, and it doesn't look good unless Gideon can get rid of him first.

I found myself falling for Gideon as the story went on, he clearly has inner issues which he can't get over. Being in Lady Gilbert's presence doesn't help matters when the rogue draws closer. Even when Gideon encounters the rogue with her the tension is palpable and Lady Gilbert picks up on it easily. As she comes to realize just how close the rogue is to her she starts to accept Gideon and his presence. I loved how easy the story flowed and all questions were answered near the end. A solid 4 of 5 stars to My Lord Vampire. (less)

Gideon Ravel is a vampire that lives behind the Veil. A mystical barrier where vampires live sophisticated lives without violence and bloodshed. The Veil was created by the great vampire Nefri, a scholar who used a magical medallian to create the new world for her kind to create a peaceful life. After doing so, the medallian was split into three parts and bestowed upon three human females who were now unknowingly protecting the Veil. Behind the Veil, bloodlust and mortal compulsions are a thing of the past and vampires can walk in the daylight without fear of the sun's rays. The vampires ultimately became more sophisticated and simply above the mortal world. They no longer required blood to shapeshift and hunt because hunting was no longer necessary. However, not all vampires embraced the serenity that was given to them and craved the power that comes from drinking of humans. Those that crave, know the medallion is their only way to gain that power.

Lord Ravel is content with his life of serenity behind the Veil. When he is tasked with finding Triston, one of the rogues who threaten to kill the keepers of the medallion, he believes it will be a simple, mundane task. After leaving the Veil, he finds himself in England and quickly establishes his reputation as a well to do suitor with money to spare. When he shows up uninvited to the home of the lovely, Lady Gilbert to establish his intentions, he is not prepared for the feelings that overcome him. Lust, desire, and her ability to simply turn him away, make Simone Gilbert irresistable. He must find a way to offer her his protection without letting his desire overcome him.

Simone Gilbert, simply cannot understand what it is about Lord Ravel that has her so bothered. The moment he touched her hand, she felt a connection but simply could not figure out why. Like all men that approach her, he simply must be after her fortune but he does not appear that way. She simply cannot let any man get close to her for fear of her secret getting out. But Gideon Ravel draws her to him, and she does not understand her feelings or why she cannot deny him. When she gains her wits and dismisses him from her party, she is sure he will not bother her again. That is, until he shows up at her home uninvited again, and again, and again. What is it about him? He is not the only one that has taken an interest in her either. Triston Soltern has been persistant in his efforts and seems particularly interested in the necklace she always wears. He carries a cold disposition that leaves Simone fearful in his presence. What she does not realize, is that her fears are justified.

I must admit, I was expecting this to be a steamy read, but found it to be rather tame but sweet. The story itself was beautiful in that it reminded me of a vampire story that would have come from the time of Jane Austen. Lords, ladies, carriages, beautiful gowns and breeches adorn this sweet story of a young woman who is anxiously awaiting her knight in shining armor to rescue her and sweep her off her feet. Gideon is such the gentlemen, and while he may not be a knight in shining armor, he is without a doubt a hero worth swooning over. (less)

This is a sweet story with a little bite.

Vampires left the human realm almost two hundred years ago for the Veil. The Veil is a place where vampires can live in peace. In the Veil, they have no fear of being hunted and they are no longer slaves to their primal hungers. Now traitors are threatening their calm existence. Gideon must cross back over to the human realm to find a maiden who has unknowingly been entrusted with a portion of the medallion that protects the Veil. He must not let the medallion fall into their hands, at all costs.

Gideon is an ideal vampire; confident, arrogant and sexy. He starts his quest with a conceit that gets blown out of the water. Vampires believe they are more intellectual and have a sense of superiority. Gideon brings that persona with him when he returns to the human realm. While he continues with his supremacy view of himself throughout most of the novel you can see Simone chipping away at his perceptions.

Simone, Simone, Simone…What to say about her? She had a quiet strength, but there were many times I wished she would grow a spine and stand up for herself. I will concede though, that considering the period that the novel takes place in, she was much stronger than most. Ms. Ivy didn’t fall into the trap of making her a woman of that era, stronger than they really were. But like I said my modern self had troubles with that simply because of my makeup and had nothing really to do with the book.

Gideon and Simone’s romance is hot, but in a sweet way. This book does not have explicit sex scenes, but their attraction is well described. I found myself pleasantly surprised. While the plot was not “grab your britches” enthralling, it was a nice change of pace. It had moments of greatness and I can’t wait for Lucien and Sebastian’s tales.

If you are trying to figure out what the hype is all about, in regards to paranormal novels, My Lord Vampire might be a good starter book for you. It had more of a historical feeling to it, so you are not inundated with alternate realities and monsters. Ms. Ivy didn’t saturate the novel with vampire lore, but I do have to say that I wish she would have explained her vision of vampires more. She has developed a unique universe and I hope to learn a bit more about it in the next book.

The next novel: My Lord Eternity is scheduled to be release late 2012 and I can’t wait to see what is in store next for these Immortal Rogues.

The story begins with Gideon Ravel, a vampire who is one of three men chosen to leave "the Veil" and seek the woman who hold a powerful amulet. If this amulet is given away freely by the woman who holds it there will be disastrous results. Gideon finds the holder of the amulet, who is Simone or Lady Gilbert. She is also known to the Ton as "The Wicked Temptress" and she gives Gideon a surprise with her determination, sensuality, and even her stubborness. He becomes so taken with her and she with him, that they develop an emotional bond that strengthens as time goes on. Simone is being stalked by an evil vampire who will do everything in his power to get his hands on the amulet and destroy Simone in the process. Gideon becomes extremely protective over her and he hopes that she will trust him enough to help her overcome the villian. What Gideon doesn't know is that Simone has a secret of her own. Will he eventually discover it, and when he does will it drive the couple apart or keep them close and working together?
The story has a great plot and it sets us up for the next two books in the trilogy as well. We don't get to meet the other two vampires and the two other women holding the amulets but they are mentioned. The writing is cleanly written and very descriptive and flows nicely. I was never bored and I enjoyed the interactions between Gideon and Simone. I was a bit disappointed in the lack of sex in the book. I do enjoy a good love scene; but sadly this book did not have any. The story did have some sexual tension, but that is as far as that went! I will read the next two reissues when they come out; but truthfully Alexandra Ivy's newer books are the ones that hold my affection the most! It is plain to see that she has come a long way in her writing, and it was good back then; but now she is 100% better!(less)

Gideon Ravel is a vampire who lives behind The Veil, a world separate from the human world where vampires live among themselves with no bloodlust, has been sent on a mission with two of his fellow vampires to find three mortal woman. These three women each have a piece of a medallion that when put together can unlock the Veil. Gideon must protect Lady Simone Gilbert from the vampire out to steal her medallion and earn her trust but Lady Gilbert trusts no one especially a strange man who makes her feel things she never expected to feel. The world is in Simone’s hands all she has to do is trust the one man who could break her heart.

Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity series is one of my must-read-favorite series in the paranormal genre so I jumped at the chance to read and review My Lord Vampire. I wasn’t sure how how Mrs. Ivy would incorporate vampirism into a historical romance novel but she did it very well and I was pleasantly surprised. This is the first historical romance with paranormal themes that I have ever really liked and I would have given it a much higher grade but there were some problems that I had with the book.

My biggest problem is with Simone and Gideon’s relationship. I had a hard time understanding how these two fell in love when Gideon was always teasing Simone and Simone was always furious with Gideon. These two never talked, never laughed and did not have a lot of chemistry in my opinion. I never felt any true passion from either of these two characters and I found it very difficult to believe they loved each other.

This book is very short and not even three hundred pages. I wish that there would have been more character development, more romance, maybe a sex scene or something to liven up the story. This book was written early in Mrs. Ivy’s career and is now being re-published and any fan of Mrs. Ivy’s newest work with see the difference in her storytelling and characters. This is not a horrible book but it lacked a lot of important elements for me and I found myself unsatisfied with what I was give. I do want to read the other books in this series and I hope that the next couple will have more passion then Simone and Gideon. (less)

I really enjoy Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity vampire series, so when I was offered this book for review I jumped on it! It’s not the same series, in fact it’s an older book she re-vamped (pardon my vampire pun), but it’s set in the same world, and we see cross-over characters.

Not entirely, for the author does keep you guessing just how exactly it's all going to play out, and she does keep one or two surprises up her sleeve, but still I found it to be lacking a bit in depth.

Simone seems to be at first glance the typical London Lady, wise in the ways of society and how to work it to her favor. A woman with a very big secret to hide, she's worked hard to create the persona of the Wicked Temptress for herself, becoming one of the key players on the social stage while always holding herself somewhat apart from it to maintain an air of mystery. She is intelligent, practical, courageous, a master at working a crowd, and a gifted fashion designer and seamstress. In all of these ways she differs from the typical shallow and naive virginal heroine of historical romances, though when it comes to emotions, and and the dark intrigues and power plays she finds herself caught up in, she very quickly finds herself out of her depth. Still, she rarely plays the shrinking violet and even when terrified out of her wits is still more likely to jump into the fray than turn tail and run. Her character has a lot of depth to it, and is probably one of the best things about this novel.

Gideon is at first glance the over-confident hero. Arrogant, entirely self-righteous, convinced that it will be child's play to bring Simone under his control and protection and to convince Tristan to give up his mad play for power and return to their realm. As it is said, however, the best laid plans rarely survive the first encounter with your opponent, and Gideon finds out quite quickly upon meeting Simone for the first time that she is no timid maid that will do as she's told. Neither is Tristan very inclined to meekly return behind the Veil, and the lengths to which he is willing to go to achieve his goals often leave Gideon dumbfounded. To his credit, Gideon does quickly learn from his mistakes, adapting his approach as needed, though he never quite relinquishes his over-confidence or his idealism, the latter of which nearly proves to be his undoing.

The one major complaint I have with this book is the fact that the vampires apparently don't drink blood, or at least the good ones don't. The evil Tristan certainly does, and his wanton indulgences create quite a stir in the places he goes, but the good vampires apparently don't touch even a drop except in special circumstances, which is something I find more than a little peculiar, and, yes, wrong on some levels. I get that the idea behind them is that they supposedly have risen above their baser desires and lusts and devote themselves to logic and scholarship and other such entirely peaceful and civilized pursuits, but still...they're vampires. They should drink blood. And I don't believe that it would have disrupted the air of civility that the author has cultivated for them by having them consume blood responsibly, without taking a life to obtain it, at least when they are in the human realm. Besides this gripe, I simply found much of the book to be somewhat shallow with regard to how things were portrayed. Though Simone and Gideon are given a fair amount of characterization, her moreso than him, other characters are little more than stereotypes for the most part, with the possible exception of the mysterious Nefri.

Despite my problems with the book, however, I did still find it to be an enjoyable read. It's perfect if you enjoy historicals, especially ones with a paranormal slant to them, for it's not very long, and it reads easily, so you can just kick back and relax with it without worrying about it being a book you'll have to think about overmuch. Recommended for those who like historical romance, paranormal romance, and/or a blend of the two with a healthy dose of intrigue and danger thrown in.(less)

I was so disappointed by this book. If you are going to bill yourself as a paranomal romance book in 2013 then there at least needs to be some kind of steamy unique sex scene. This book had none, absolutely none. felt it was a historical romance novel where at the last minute they decided to make the man a vampire with some strange powers. He was a vampire that wouldn't even drink her blood. Enough said. If I'm picking up a vampire book, it's cause I want the vampire part.

"My Lord Vampire" by Alexandra Ivy. (Book 1 in the Immortal Rogues Trilogy)

I really enjoyed this book. It's a paranormal romance (obviously you can tell by the title) but set in historical times. I would actually say this book would be more of a "light" romance as there is more of the "fade to black" element when things get hot. Not to racy. Which is actually a nice change once in a while.

Will definitely be reading the following installments.

I read this, and all three of them when they came out under Debbie Raleigh. I remember them under the sweet Traditional Regency line and they were quiet thin. So I'm thinking these are expanded if its 321 pages? Cuz I pulled out my original one and its only 222 pages so this is like 100 pages added? So I'm wondering if more was added, more heat? Anyone read the originals and this to know if they are the same?

Having read this authors other series I was disapointed. The plot mixed vampire romance with historical romance. The plot was very familiar with the female lead needing the male lead to swoop in and save her (and her reputation) as with most historical romance while adding the predictability of the classic vampire love story. Have read it and am glad I did however not one I would read again!

I read the original paperback written under Debbie Raleigh's name aka Alexandra Ivy. Suffice-to-say, it was an easy read. A little suspense, a little romance and an ending, well...you know how it would end. It's one of those books that fills your free time- okay but nothing that blew me away. If you are looking for a no-brainer Halloween romance this book might be up your alley.
