Well done, Me!
As a first book, pretty damn clever and most of all FUN!

[Full disclosure: Gary Alan Henson sent me a free print copy of his book in exchange for an honest review.]

First off, I absolutely loved the blend of science and magic in Genome. Science has never been my strongest area, so I won’t even begin to pretend to understand half of the technical information Gary Henson included in his debut novel. However, the spirit world that Samantha and Jack encounter is very well-developed and is an interesting contrast to the logical, scientific parts of the nove

Now, when I say it was a 'surprise' I don't mean this in a derogatory way, as in I was surprised it was good - I mean that given the title and book cover I was surprised at how the content grasped my attention and kept me reading all day until I had finished it! There was a lot of techno stuff in here about artificial intelligence, DNA and the like and I cannot pretend I understood it, but the way in which it was written made me enjoy it; I found it fascinating to read. Now, not intending to be ...more

An excellent blend of supernatural and supergeek. I thoroughly enjoyed it and wanted more when it ended. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the supernatural or computer AI development, both brought to you in a very plausible way. It would have got 5 stars but for the fact that it was a little heavy at times on computer jargon (although essential to the story and characters) and the fact that I felt it was a little rushed at the end. Perhaps that was just me wanting the story to go on ...more

I just found out about a book from my mother a week ago - downloaded immediately and tore through it in three days (I was busy this week). It was funny, plenty of laughs, very likable characters and a nice little twist at the end. Great conclusion to this story and left me wishing for a sequal to continue the adventures at Magnasomnia. Well worth four times the current price- read it now before the cost goes up!!

I like the premise of this book, but found it difficult reading.

This might be because it is written in present tense. The dialogue is unnatural and clunky at places.

I rarely give up on a book in the middle but the beginning of Chapter 6 was as far as I could make it in this. A bit lacking in depth of description, it felt like formulaic sci-fi. Nothing gripping about the story. Perhaps it was written with a teen audience in mind.

I was born in Levelland, Texas, moved to Boulder, Colorado and joined the US Nuclear Submarine force at 17.

After 9 years cruising the oceans, I returned to Colorado and eventually became a software developer.

I've always loved creating something from my imagination. In 2006 I wrote a screenplay, 'Genome'. After years of 'no thanks' or no response I decided to adapt it to a novel and try ePub.
