After listening to her closest friends’ latest travails in love, parenting, and careers, superstitious bride-to-be Nicole (Nic) believes she has the perfect recipe for everyone’s happiness: a bridal shower “cake pull” in which each ribboned silver charm planted in her cake will bring its recipient the magical assistance she needs to change her destiny. A Cake-Pull, now how girly-chessy-superstitious that sounds!! Yeah 'There's Cake in my Future' is all about some chicks playing at a superstistious trick to make their future dreams come true. But since its a chick-lit novel, something always goes wrong in the plan and fate shows different colour in their lives. A funny chick-lit with an exciting as well as shocking climax which will definitely can't stop making you turning the pages of this book!

Se
I picked this book up on a whim because it had a cute cover and sounded interesting. oh my gosh, best decision I ever made. what awesome chick lit! LOVED IT!

I loved the story coming from the perspective of all three girls. And the idea of the charms in the cake? I'd never heard of that before (is that bad?) but I loved it. What I loved even more was - whether through coincidence or the desire to make the charm's meaning come true - that each girl found what she was looking accident. Whe

Okay I picked this book up on the "New Arrival" shelf. I would have rated it higher if not for the bad language, which I continue to argue is not necessary in most books one reads. I loved the characters, their crazy situations and the funny situations they find themselves in. They just seemed real. I didn't like the fact that they were all beautiful, but didn't know it type of thing. I mean, the average girl (who these girls are supposed to represent) could not expect most of the outcomes or ev ...more

This was a very silly book, and a very light book, and a very nothing-in-particular book. It’s hard to say too much that’s really good about it. But on the other hand, it’s hard to say much that’s really bad about it. Although I will certainly try.

As one would expect given the summary, the plot revolves primarily around three women engaging in wacky girl-type superstitions (cake pulls!) whilst struggling with Menfolk Issues.

Seema is passionately in love with her best friend Scott, which is unf

Actually I'd give it 2 1/2 stars. A cute book, very light reading with likable characters for the most part. It follows three friends who each pull charms at a cake pull and it feels like the universe is trying to tell them each something. It is such a fun concept and I had high hopes for it but ended up feeling a little disappointed wit the book overall. I knew the characters on a very superficial level and never had any deep knowledge about them. I found it hard to understand their choices. I ...more

Immediately, during the first chapter, I was sucked into the book. Nic tries to rig the cake pull by controlling who sits where and which charm they're going to receive, in other words playing with destiny and fate. Unbeknownst to her and her two best friends Mel and Seema, every thing goes wrong. Each guest receives a different charm, and they're coming true. Each chapter focuses on the point of view of one character, switching from Nic, to Mel, to Seema. I have to admit, Seema was my favorite ...more
One of the pleasures of sitting down with a Kim Gruenenfelder book is the knowledge that you're being treated to good writing, especially dialogue. I've read three of her books, al written in first person. "Cake" takes a slightly different route by breaking the narrative down among three best friends, one of whom is about to get married. She manages to give each a distinct personality and these are women you'd like. Nicole is the bride to be, Seema is the arts professional in love with her best ...more

Nic, Mel, & Seema have a strong friendship and that is evident from page one. They have each others backs and are there to help each other no matter what the situation. I think that is what had me liking the book so much. The friendship was genuine and balanced. They didn't give bad behavior a pass in the name of "being supportive", they called each other on their bad behavior without being judgmental or hateful. And throughout the whole book I found m

I really enjoyed this book. It followed the different lives of three women each with their own very different problems. Made me laugh and was a nice quick read.

You ever read a book and think, I wish I was friends with the characters or the author? Well, that's what I thought when I read this book. Kim Gruenenfelder is such a funny and honest writer that you have to love every female character she creates. This book made me laugh out loud and actually worry for a fictional person. Plus, I think I finished this book in like three days (which is fast for me because it usually takes me a week to read a book). Bonus, I love the bridal shower game they playe ...more

Kesinlikle kasma ...more
I have very mixed feelings about this book. I loved it, for the most part. It was light and easy and exactly what I was wanting as a distraction. But there came a point toward the end that I physically wanted to shake the characters (except for Nic). Seema bugged me for most of the book (grow up, Seema) and Mel was starting to act like Seema, and I just felt like they both needed to (as Megan says so wonderfully to Nic) "grow a pair."

I loved the premise of the story. Mel and Nic were fabulous

Wow, what a fun read!

This is my first book by Kim Gruenenfelder. In fact when I woke up this morning I'd never heard of her. I stumbled on this book, thought the title was intriguing and downloaded the sample. What a perfect book to read on a day off and it's 11 below zero outside. When you start a book and you're laughing out loud while reading the sample the book becomes a must buy.

I loved Nic, Seema and Mel. Their friendship rang true to me and I loved how they had become their own little fam

I really liked this book. It was perfect for a camping trip- light, funny and witty. I could easily see these girls being my friends in real life. Each girl deals with a life/love situation that is slightly different giving the reader a nice view of the different types of relationships. I loved how it all centred around the cake charms, and even thought it'd be a great shower idea if I ever plan one!

Oh my god, I seriously loved this book SO much! Definitely, without a doubt my favorite chick-lit book! Honestly everything about it was just so good, the plot, the characters..everything. Definitely one of my favorite books, that I'll probably end up reading again! I just wish there was a sequel!!

Loved it! I got exactly what I expected out of “There’s Cake in my Future,” and I couldn’t have been happier with it. It’s a chick-lit that follows the story of three best friends in their different stages of love: one getting married, one wanting to get married, and one thinking she just wants a hot romance. But when a cake pull (which is a beautiful idea, by the way) goes awry, all of the girls end up with something else. This book was light, fun, sweet, and don’t yo

Wow. I did not realize how big the world of chick lit/women fiction is. Those three girls are tough and the guys are idiots. Okay, Jason doesn't hang home much, Scott's bad at reading signs, and Danny doesn't approve pink china. Other than those three, the guys in this book were jerks. Seema's my favorite out of the three. Mel came in second and Nic came in third. Sorry you two. Seem's my favorite because she's trying to get together with Scott . So, basically she's favorite because she was a li ...more

I received Kim Gruenenfelder’s book, “Keep Calm and Carry a Big Drink,” for Christmas. Since it’s part of a series, like always, I wanted to start with the first book that revolves around the lives of Nicole, Melissa, Seema, and Scott. It turned out that I already had the first one, “There’s Cake in My Future,” so I immediately began reading.

Nicole (Nic): At first I wasn’t too sure about Nic’s character, but I loved her at the end. As an engaged woman, she seemed like a stuck-up bridezilla. But

This was a great book that I really enjoyed. I felt each woman was believable and I liked that the point of views changed with each chapter. If you want a light, fluffy and fun read, then this is the book for you. I look forward to exploring other books written by this author.

I actually chose to read this book because of the interesting cover and title. This is my first time reading a book about the superstitions of a cake pull at a bridal shower, which of course concerns 3 bestfriends: Nicole, Melissa and Seema. Nicole, a laid-off journalist is married to Jason, a father of 2 little girls. She's doing her best to be the "best bonus mom ever" and has dubious thoughts whether marriage is the right choice for her. Mel, on the other hand, has always dreamed of being pro ...more
Cute, fluffy, hilarious ... the perfect rom-com read to pull me out of the really brooding "WTF?!" mood I was in after a couple very dark reads lately.

This book realistically portrays relationships, whether it be between spouses, couples, parents/children, 30-something girlfriends ... or that super creepy old dude in your recurring speed-dating nightmare. (Come on, who doesn't have that dream?) *shudder*

All in all, I enjoyed this book for what it was. I expected to roll my eyes a lot <\i&g

I am enjoying this book minus the use of the F word. It is not improving this book in any way, shape or form and don't understand why the author feels the need to just throw it in there.

How I haven't heard of Kim Gruenenfelder until now, I'm not sure. She is the epitome of chick lit writers. Love her books. They're quick, easy, and fun.. absolutely what I need right now.

Not as good as ATWOM or MLC, however still an easy to read chick-lit book. However, after struggling to stay interested this book ends on what I feel was a cliffhanger..

I was expecting this to be a little more magical realism than it was. Instead of focusing on the charms mysteriously shifting and then bringing about the fortunes to those who received them, it instead ended up being another book about the complaints of women in their early 30's. It was a nice enough vacation read, enjoyable for reading on the beach, but it fell short of what I wanted. More than once it fell into the cheap pattern of the main characters hating other women for being younger, more ...more

This book instantly created a world in which I was brought into the middle of three best friends feeling as though I was the fourth member of the club. I felt like I was watching my own friends as they faced relationship problems, made stupid choices and passed on opportunities to express their feelings, all while being there for each other through thick and thin to support each other. The idea of the magic charms hidden in the bridal shower cake added a cute twist on the story and added a fun a ...more
