Rogue (Robin Monarch #1)
Two years ago, Robin Monarch was maybe the best black top level CIA operative. But one day, in the middle of an operation, with his team around him in the field, Monarch walks away, leaving his old life and friends behind without a word of explanation.

As a fan of the thriller genre, its easy to like the very entertaining Rogue by Mark Sullivan. The action is relentless, the story is fast paced and the hero is intriguing. Thriller fans are not looking for literary masterworks. If we wanted literature, we could read The Great Gatsby. These books are not going to be discussed with Life of Pi in book clubs. This is popcorn fair for fans of James Bond and 24. The benchmarks of the genre are the hell for bent heroes, the adrenaline fueled action, a...more
"THINK BOURNE. THINK BOND. THINK BAUER. THINK BETTER" - Nothing like raising expectations!
The author tries to blend a number of things here, Bourne, Robin Hood and a bit of Mission Impossible and, in my view, none of them really work and it all ends up as a bit of a mess. Far too many unanswered questions or lack of logic that you are not supposed to notice because of the pace of the book.

If you are looking for a thrill a minute, or maybe a thrill a page grab a hold of this book and don’t let go.
Robin Monarch was in the Special Forces before joining the CIA. He and his team are now being called on to locate and steal a weapon that will make all present weapons obsolete. In fact whoever controls this weapon could very easily control the world.

In this audiobook of Mark Sullivan's "Rogue", Jeff Gurner brilliantly brings to life Robin Monarch's world of espionage and thievery. Using different voices and accents, Gurner presents a believable portrayal of each character and draws the listener in from from beginning and holds their interest all the way through to the end!

I received a free audio version of ROGUE to review and enjoyed it very much. I liked that it was action from the beginning. You didn’t have to wait to be involved.
The character of Robin Monarch was unveiled by glimpses of his past throughout the book and I thought Mr. Sullivan did a splendid job. Robin is Super Spy, Robin Hood, ladies’ man and dependable friend all rolled into one hero (bad guy turned good turned bad?) so there ARE some improbabilities as with any spy thriller but that’s the fun...more

Rogue by Mark Sullivan
I really liked the main character, Robin Monarch, and his team. He is a very tough, get the job done type of guy but very kind and considerate at the same time. His quick-thinking kept him and his team moving safely.
The story is intriguing and made me wonder how Robin was going to fix the problems that constantly arose. However, I did find it confusing and hard to follow in the third quarter of the book.

PROS: This books is well-written and doesn't lag, which is important, I think, in this genre. Mr. Sullivan's plot is unique as far as I know, which is hard to do in an international crime novel, because so many of the same plots have been done over and over. I especially enjoyed the way the plot played out in the end of the book. His main character...more

Is Robin Monarch really a rogue CIA operative turned thief, or is he a good guy trying to protect his team and do what is right for the country and the world when he deserts in the middle of an operation? Part Mission Impossible, part It Takes a Thief plus twists and turns and tons of action make up a fantastic new thriller with a team of characters I can’t wait to meet again.

I really enjoyed this book. A little slow at first but Monarch has so much going on. First he is doing an op and it goes wrong, then he has quit and moved on to private sector helping people with security and back to his thieving ways. He really is a good guy who gets into some terrible spots but people tend to like him even when they are not sure they really know or like him. His friends are very true friends and would do anything for him and they learn a lot about him since he keeps everything...more

I don’t know where I learned about this book but, since it was from a co-author to James Patterson I thought …why not?
James Rollins is quoted as saying “a Jason Bourne for the new millennium” concerning the book and he is absolutely correct! The problem is, I did not like that series and because this book was so close to the Bourne books, I had difficulty with it as well.
I gave it a four because I feel the author and his work deserve that, if I would have honestly graded it I would have given i...more

This book has a very well thought out plot and characters. I really enjoyed build up of the many characters, they fit perfectly into the story line. There were a few times through out the story where I found grammer errors and places where the wording was incorrect. At one point a character is in a van and then less then a page later they are picking her up, for her to get in the car. Aside from these mistakes I was really able to enjoy the book and get into the story line. I am very excited to...more
I won this book in a First Reads giveaway. Rogue is a good, fast-paced spy story. Robin Monarch is a CIA operative who decides to quit working for the CIA mid-mission when he realizes the operation is not what he thought it was. He goes "Rogue" and becomes a Robin Hood of sorts. That may be a little hard to believe, but if you can suspend your disbelief for that much of it, the rest of the story follows in Jason-Bourne-like fashion, with international travel, eyes everywhere, and do-what-you-hav...more
Robin Monarch is no ordinary man. The son of two con artists, Robin began a life of theft at an early age. After his parents occupation finally cost them their lives, young Robin was forced to use his skills to survive on the streets of poverty stricken Buenos Aires. There, he banned with other young boys, forming a fraternity of theft. His life was quickly spiraling out of control when he was seriously injured in a street heist. Rushed to a local clinic, his life was forever changed when he met...more
Mark Sullivan in his new book, “Rogue” published by Minotaur Books Brings us into the life of Robin Monarch.
From the inside jacket cover: Robin Monarch is not your ordinary spy. Orphaned at a very young age, he survived the worst slum in Buenos Aires by becoming a very talented thief. After a near-fatal incident, he changed the course of his life, ultimately becoming a top-level CIA operative, considered one of the best at black bag operations. That is, until one day when, in the middle of an op...more

Mark Sullivan has created a propulsive, compelling new thriller. ROGUE, is one part BOURNE IDENTITY and one part MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE, but readers will also love the nod to Hitchcock’s IT TAKES A THIEF.

It is a well paced page turner that keeps you reading to see what is coming next. I loved the development of the Robin Monarch character and the salting of personal info that spanned nearly the entire book. If this is to be a series I would love to learn more about the background of his team as well. I would recommend this book to fans of spy novels but as the genre goes it was not ground-breaking or incredible. Some of the twists were not entirely surprising and some of the characters were a li...more
Once I started reading the book, it was hard to put down. Reviewers have compared the new character Robin Monarch to Jason Bourne but I felt he was more like Daniel Silva's character, Gabriel Allon. Robin was raised as a thief by his parents who were gunned down in front of him. He steals from the rich to fund a charity group in Buenos Aires. I hope Mark Sullivan will write other books involving Robin Monarch and his team.
Admittedly this is not a genre I often read, and reading Rogue reminds me why. Poor editing, cliched writing, a melodramatic recycled plot. Adventure/spy/conspiracy stories - stories about rogues - can be very well written. Lee Childs, Michael Connelly, Robert Ludlum are masters at capturing the conflicted natures of men who cannot live within the lines society would set for them. Mark Sullivan needs to set his sights a little higher in his next book.
I must disclose that I have received the book for free through Goodreads First Reads. I did not get the hardback edition but rather a paperback Advanced Reader's Edition. Although I have received this book some time ago, I have finally gotten around to reading it. By the end of the book, I enjoyed it very much. However, I did feel that there was too much in the beginning that seemed too much of an elaborate setup/too much backstory for the book. I ended up liking the main character - Robin Monar...more
I received this book in August from the Goodreads giveaways. It has taken me awhile to get around to reading it, but it was worth the wait. Rogue is an international thriller with CIA agents, rogue operatives, unpredictable outcomes, and page-turning intrigue. Robin Monarch is a likeable hero who is reminiscent of the Jason Bourne character and a modern day Robin Hood. He also brought to mind the character in "The Saint" series, especially where Val Kilmer plays the undercover operative. I hopin...more
I won this book in a Good Reads giveaway! I really liked it. It had a little more language that what I prefer, but it wasn't overwhelming. Very well written, and left it open for a sequel if he wanted to do it. Like it says, if you like the "Bourne" series, you will like this book. Glad I won it, as I have found a new author I like!
Loved it! The story reads like a movie...fast-paced and descriptive enough to imagine the scenes in your mind. Actually.....would really like to see this book made in to a movie. The critics weren't kidding when they said that Robin Monarch is the next Jason Bourne! Thanks Goodreads "First Reads" giveaways for the opportunity to preview this book before it hit the shelves!
