Terrifically creepy! McNamee's chilling tale of the mysterious icy monster grabbed me from the first page. The ancient Bonechiller has stalked the little town of Harvest Cove for centuries and now it is after Danny and his friend Howie but who will believe them? The vast Canadian wilderness is almost a character here and the cold came right out of the pages as I read. This a wild ride, literally, with snowmobile chases, cracking ice, massive explosions and four great teen characters, including a...more

Bonechiller is a young adult novel filled with suspense, mystery and horror. Graham McNamee offers the reader no shortage of chills and thrills in this novel set in Ontario during the bleakest winter in years. Danny and his widowed father move from one small town to another in attempts to escape the painful memories of a once whole family. As the temperature drops, strange things begin happening in the sleepy town of Harvest Cove as an ancient mystery begins to unfold. When Danny is attacked by...more

Never in a million years would Danny believe in ghost stories, but, this time, they are real. After moving to a town covered in snow, Danny, Howie, and Ash, take a joy ride on the snow covered roads. Although Pike, the driver, decided that he want to set fire to the store of a known pedophile, Danny will never forget that night where he was stalked and attacked by a hideous creature. What seemed like an awful nightmare, Danny tries to shrug off this "dream" until the local bully disappears out o...more

It kept my interest.

I really liked Acceleration by this author so I wanted to try another of his books and bought this. It was not as good. But I think teenagers will like it better than I. It’s about a group of teenagers in Canada. Two boys get bit by a demon and their bodies start changing. Their friends help.

The best part was the personality Ash. She competed in female boxing matches. She and Danny are on the way to becoming a couple - not there yet. She says things like lets race, if you win...more

In this book Danny and his Dad are in Harvest Cove when a big winter storm hit, during one of the coldest winters in years. Both of them are trying to escape memories of Danny’s mother dying of cancer witch was the saddest day when she died.

In the beginning Danny and his friends go to a house and start a place on fire because they robbed a store. Then they have to walk home in the cold stormy road since they didn’t want to ride with Danny’s friend’s psycho brother.

One night Danny is attacked...more

Kind of like Dean Koontz light. I've read McNamee's Acceleration, so I'm not surprised I like this one too...lots of unanswered questions, and Danny, the main character admits that. I don't think he and I mean the same thing when we say that. The monster, the suspense are creepy and scary...we just never get a real resolution the way you do in Koontz's work.

What IS the creature who's turned Danny into a human icecube and why is he after Danny and Howie? Will Howie's research find he answer soon...more

This story is about this boy named Danny who's mom died when he was little. One night when he was in bed asleep he felt his head being tugged on. He woke up and could not move and could barely breathe. At first he thought it was a dream and then he realized that he was awake. He saw a dark shadow and thought there was a stranger in his house. He told his best friend Ash what happened, they were both worried. The next night it happened again. Night after night the same thing kept happening. He re...more

Review by Jake Kirk

Bonechiller is freaky... in an awesome way. The book is much like a horror movie but avoids all of the cliches.

Our protagonist, Danny, is a regular guy with a troubled past. His father keeps moving him from town to town attempting to escape their nightmare by moving further away from society.

One night, while walking home he's assaulted by a hideous beast that "stings" him, but then leaves him for no reason. He soon finds out that his situation is more dangerous and the stakes...more

This is a weak 3 stars, could be given a two, but I did just like it so I'm giving it a three. The characters are interesting and the story is definitely scary, but for some reason it didn't really grab me, didn't want me to keep reading to find out what happens. I didn't get that feeling of not being able to put it down, which was missing.
The reason I didn't love it is that the killing creature isn't ever really identified, what it is, does it capture the souls of the teenagers it takes or are...more

A strong 7.5/10 on the Peach-worthiness scale. I didn't enjoy it as much as I think teens will. Similar to Acceleration, which won the Peach Award a couple of years back, this book has a lot to draw teen boys. I can see it doing well with the Cirque du Freak fans, many of whom started off as reluctant readers. This story is the sort that might keep them looking for the kinds of books that speak to them. Loads of action and a monster/mutant in this one instead of a serial killer. Still with plent...more

I have been waiting years for another book by McNamee after having read Acceleration a few years ago. This novel is a great follow-up. Set in the Canadian rural suburbs not too far from Toronto, Danny finds himself drawn to a group of military brats that live on the nearby base. Howie and Pike are a pair of brothers who have been friend with Ash, and they have more than welcomed Danny into their midst since his arrival after the difficult death of his mother from a brain tumor.

One evening after...more

Danny and his father have been running since his mother died. They're running from memories, from connecting too hard with people. Danny's been in three schools in two years when they settle in to spend the winter in the tiny Canadian town of Haven Cove.

But Haven Cove is hiding more than just snow and ice. There's a terrible beast stalking the town, a beast that has been devouring Haven Cove's youth for as long as history can remember. Now, it's marked Danny and his friends as its next victims....more

Something is forcing the teenagers of Harvest Cove to their deaths in the cold Canadian night, and town newcomer Danny thinks he knows what it is. On his way home, he encounters a gigantic white monster in the snow. The beast bites him and vanishes like it never existed, leaving behind only a large set of footprints. When Danny finds himself drawn to the cold, he and his friends must stop the blood thirsty before it claims him as its next victim.

I found Graham McNamee's reinterpretation of the N...more

When Danny's dad gets a job at a marina in Canada, Danny quickly befriends some native children, who live on the army base. Ash, Howie, and Pike all go to the same school as Danny. The same school in which Ray Dison was taken out of for being insane. After school, as Danny was walking home alone, he saw a flash of white just to his right, in the ditch. The man-like creature tackled him, and stung him on Danny's hand with his stinger, extruding from his tongue. Danny starts to experience hot flas...more

It took some time to get into the book. I've checked it out for so long and finally picked it up and read it over the weekend. The story begins with teenagers going out having fun at night then the adventure gets out of hand. On the way home one of the characters experiences a strange creature following him. He's scared but convinces himself that its just a nightmare until his practical and logical friend experiences the same thing.

I enjoyed this story as it kept me reading wanting to know what...more

This book is no doubt one of my favorite books. Danny is just one of those characters that you just have to love. And Ash... I love her with all my heart. She is not a girly-Girl and I love that about her. shes differnt than most girls. Pike, now he is crazy but its in a good was I love that he never takes things to seriously and knows how to lighten the mood when he needs to. And I love his protective nature over his little brother and friends and family. Even though he does some crazy things.....more

I really enjoyed this book. I would have given it a 4.5 rating. It had a lot of action, some creepiness, and interesting characters. It'd make a great movie if they did the monster effects right. A fun read!

I liked this book it was a good mystery/chiller book to read. It kept me on the edge of my seat and i wouldn't put it done until they figured out what the creature that was stalking Danny and his gang of friends. The book starts of in a place called Harvest Cove this is a place in Canada and it is snowy there most of the year it is so small you could barley find it on a map.

Danny lives there with his dad who is in the army along with his buds whose dads are also military parents. A girl named A...more

Bonechiller
by Graham McNamee
As many of you know, Acceleration is one of my favorite mystery novels, and it won the Edgar Allan Poe award for fiction. So, I was chomping at the bit to get a taste of his new mystery—Bonechiller. McNamee's pacing is still fantastic—short chapters kept me riveted, and the Native American mythology that is included in the story is fascinating. According to Algonquin legend, Windigo's are creatures who eat humans and can possess their spirits. In chapter one, Danny is...more

First of all, I absolutely LOVED this book.
Going into it, I expected mystery, suspense and horror. McNamee also added romance and excitement, and what true-romantic, teenage girl doesn't like romance in a book?

I'm stunned on how thrilling this page-turner was. Literally, like a movie playing in my head, scene by scene. This definitely needs to be made into a movie. Anyway, Danny, Pike, Howie, & Ash are faced with the greatest problem and thrill of their lives against this cold-loving monste...more

I don’t scare easily; I enjoy everything about zombies, monsters and other things that go bump in the night. I find very few things scary (except, perhaps the movie The Descent). So imagine my surprise when I realized that while reading Graham Mcnamee’s new book, Bonechiller, I was holding my breath a bit, every so often glancing up wide eyed and stealthily checking out my very quiet house.

Bonechiller takes place in the far north of Canada, in the sparsely populated town of Harvest Cove, where...more
