Kennedy's groundbreaking book The Rise and Fall of the Great Powers helped to reorder the current priorities of the United States. It's Paul Kennedy - nothing more needs to be said!

Paul Kennedy covered a lot of ground here projecting into the 21st Century and it's not fair to hold against him the fact that 9/11 and its fallout impacted heavily on a number of his projections. He got enough things right to make it an interesting over the shoulder backwards glance at where we might have gone - sort of an alternate future book by 2016.

There is a line in that book and can't give you the page to cite it properly.. It changed my life and my understanding of life and society for ever... Since then every thought has been influenced shaped by this deep understanding, its meaning and its consequences; "women are the primary educators"... Thank you, merci, Efkaristo!

A bit dated but still good and succinct social science writing.
