The depth of character development in this novel is deep and subtle, drawing deeply on the surrounding events that are happening to the characters with a beauty and an ease to the storytelling that made it easy to keep picking up this book.

Our heroine, Laura has not had the easiest of lives and that has contributed everything to where she is right now. In her hometown, her childhood sweetheart back in her life and the potential that her once thought to be dead father could very well be alive. If...more
This book is so awesome! I could not put it down. You want to find out what happens so bad that you keep reading all night. Loved it!
The small town of Prospect, Georgia, has plenty of secrets in Meg Moseley’s A Stillness of Chimes. Never having been to Georgia, I really enjoyed the feel of entering a different place through the eyes of her characters. Laura Gantt might avoid going back into church, as she feels too many eyes on her, having returned to close up her childhood home after the death of her mother. But there’s always the possibility she might stay, or even the chance that her father, long mourned as dead, might som...more

This southern tale begins when Laura Gantt returns home to Georgia when her mother passes away. Upon returning, she hears rumors swirling that her father has been spotted. Her father who’s been dead for 12 years. Stressed by both the death of her mother and the rumored sightings of her father she leans on Sean Halloran, Laura’s old boyfriend who still manages to make her feel something. A Stillness of Chimes is a story of forgiveness, pain, and love that never leaves.

A Stillness of Chimes by Meg Moseley is a sweetly written book that takes the reader on a amazing journey, full of mystery, sadness, romance, humor, and of course some wonderful southern charm. I found some parts to be a little slow but otherwise A Stillness of Chimes was so worth the time spent reading it. The characters were developed so subtly, each in their own deep way that I would have been hard pressed to not fall in love with them. If you're looking for a book that you don't have to inve...more

I didn't know much about this book when I picked it from Blogging for Books but I knew that I read the previous book (review here) by the author and she was a great writer. I was really looking forward to her next book even though I didn't know what it was about. I got it as soon as it was available and waited for it to come. A Stillness of Chimes: A Novel by Meg Moseley was on my list of books that I was excited to read when it came out even though I had no idea what it was about and I wasn't d...more

My Thoughts On The Book: A Stillness of Chimes is the first book I have read by author, Meg Moseley. Moseley is an amazing author and I can assure you that I will read her again. I was spellbound by the plot revolving around Laura Gantt's return to Prospect, Georgia to deal with her mother's estate. While in town she is reunited with her friends and sightings of her long dead father begin to occur. This book will definitely hold your attention. As a southerner who lives on the Georgia line I was...more
This book started out intriguing and that initial interest stayed with me until the end. Mostly, this is a mystery with strong family ties. I liked the way the author kept the flow of her story going by using events from the past and the present intertwined.

The characters are easy to get to know and like and I thought the Christian angle of this book was present but not overtly in your face, so if you like reading less "religious" Christian novels this would be a good choice.

Meg Moseley always delivers novels with heart, depth, and complexity. True to the style set by her previous two novels, "A Stillness of Chimes" encompasses a spectrum of emotions in a multi-faceted plot. An air of mystery prevails throughout the novel, and every character has a story that becomes a cohesive part of the bigger story. Moseley steers readers directly into serious subjects and immerses us directly into life in Prospect, Georgia. "A Stillness of Chimes" certainly has its share of pai...more

A Stillness of Chimes
By: Meg Mosley

This is my first book by Meg Mosley, but I loved it. Will look into others by her. Once I started this book there was no putting it down. A Stillness of Chimes is a book of secrets. These are secrets that are many years kept. Thinking her father was dead and then there being sightings of him. Can this be true? After the death of her mother things start to come out. Just when you think you got it figured out nope there is a twist. Meg has a lot of tough issues i...more

After reading Meg Moseley’s other novels, When Sparrows Fall and Gone South I anxiously awaited her next novel. Meg certainly did not disappoint! A Stillness of Chimes was beautifully written. This book captivated me from the first chapter. The book was filled with vivid detail of what it is like to live in the South right down to the descriptions of kudzu! Meg’s ability to describe the effects of living with someone that suffers from PTSD was also captivating. Growing up with a dad that also su...more
I don’t normally read “Southern Fiction” but I thought Meg Moseley’s last book, Gone South, sounded interesting, and since I didn’t get a chance to read that one, when I saw A Stillness of Chimes available, I took it. Also, I’m always trying to mix up my reading every once in a while with books in a different genre than what I normally read- the mark of a good writer is one who can capture the attention of even a reader a bit reluctant to dive into a certain genre, right?

I’m still not exactly su...more

I have mixed feelings about this book. I really loved the characters and the setting, but the plot was a little shallow for my taste. I'm willing to give the author another go, but this book will probably be passed on to a friend or family member.

I was very interested in reading this the day I found out that Blogging For Books was going to offer it up. I waited a whole month and then I had it in my hands. I sat down and read the whole thing in one sitting. Then I to...more

"What if the echoes of past heartaches uncovered an unknown sacrifice that changes everything?"

This sentence from the back of the book will haunt you through every page.

I love Meg Moseley's books. She writes with a depth that tugs at my heart.

A southern Georgia mountain town, a bluegrass festival, a dead man who may not be dead, even after 12 years, secrets revealed that shatter hearts, friends whose lives are in turmoil, a love that has endured for 18 years.......this is the stuff of this book...more

I really enjoyed this book and the closer I cam to the end, the faster I wanted to read. It has the perfect combination of love and mystery. And I really didn't see parts of the ending coming before they happened. I like it when a book is able to surprise me a little.

The character of Laura is wonderful. I love that she can still have love and forgiveness for parents and for those that she discovered played a huge part in life. Some of those, she never knew where such a big part.

Excellent novel. The book follows Laura (after some reminiscing about experiences in her youth) as she returns to her hometown to get her mother's affairs in order after her death. Laura finds out that there are rumors that her father, a Vietnam Vet with PTSD, who was to have drowned in a lake ten years prior, may not be dead and has been surviving in the mountains. She spends time with her old friends, Carrie, who is like a sister to her, and ex-boyfriend Sean as she tries to determine whether...more

A Stillness of Chimes by Meg Moseley opens with the main character returning to her hometown due to her mother's death. Rumors have been circulating around town that Laura's father, presumed to have drowned years before, has been seen. Laura joins forces with an old flame to find out if there is any truth in the rumors. Along that way, Laura learns more about her past and defines her future.

I had the opportunity to review this book before, but passed it up due to what I thought was an implausibl...more

This is the 2nd book I have had the pleasure to read my Meg Mosely. Gone South was the first.A Stillness of Chimes was beautifully written. This book captivated me from the first chapter. Every time I thought I knew where the story was going to go, the author pulled another surprise and threw me for a loop that I adored. The depth of character development in this novel is riveting. The author draws on past events and circumstances that create this beauty and sense of melancholy.

This is the story of Laura Gantt. She is returning to the small Georgia town she ran from twelve years earlier when she was eighteen. At that time, her father had recently drowned, her relationship with her mom, Jess, was rocky, and her boyfriend Sean was pushing her to marry him. She decided to escape it all, and go to Colorado to get her teaching degree. After receiving a teaching job there, she has rarely been back home. However, her mother’s sudden death causes her to come back after school...more

A book I recently read has stayed with me these past few weeks. Meg Moseley’s A Stillness of Chimes held my interest from the very beginning as I wondered what troubled the lead male character, Sean Halloran. As that mystery, and many others, was revealed over the course of this novel, the characters wiggled into my heart. Laura, Sean, and Cassie each had their own problems to face, but I particularly connected with Laura Gantt.

Her battle to believe or disprove the rumors that her dad, who was t...more
Mystery, a hint of romance, secrets, friendship, loyalty, happiness, sadness. I was lost in this book right from the first paragraph and loved it all the way to the end.

The book starts out when Laura and her friends are 12 yrs. old and they make a pact to always be there for each other. It then jumps to 18 yrs. later when Laura returns to her childhood home. Her mother recently died and she goes back home to handle her mother’s belongings. The last thing she expects is to hear that the whole tow...more

Meg Moseley's newest novel is a beautiful and moving story with realistic, compelling characters set against the backdrop of a Georgia mountain town. I especially enjoyed the author's lyrical writing and I couldn't wait to find out how things turned out. This is a captivating story filled with family secrets, true friendship, faith, heartbreak, redemption and hope. This is the kind of book you want to read in one sitting. Highly recommended. A must-read.

A Stillness of Chimes by Meg Moseley is an alluring contemporary drama with elements of mystery and romance. One my favorite things about it was its subtle “Southern charm”. Growing up in a small Ozarks town myself, I appreciate the familiarity, closeness, and quirkiness of the characters that grew up in the Appalachians.

Laura Gantt has returned to her hometown of Prospect, Georgia, in the heart of the Appalachians, to sort through her recently deceased mother’s belongings. Her father, Elliot G...more
The symbolism in the cover alone is the worthwhile factor for reading this book. When Laura comes home to settle her mom's estate, the past is waiting for her. Her high school boyfriend still loves her, and her dad who disappeared when she was a child may still be alive.

I loved the hero of the book, Sean. He's strong and steady despite an abusive father. He's still in love with Laura, and I wished the book would have delved into why a little more. It had been a long time since she broke his heart and moved away. What was so special about her?

I liked Laura too, and I think t...more
