I don't know if one can review this book. It's Pat The Bunny. You get to pat the bunny. How cool is that? All the activities in the book are things kids do -- except patting the bunny. Is that a normal childhood activity, patting bunnies? I don't remember patting that many bunnies. Well, we did own Marshmallow (or Thumbalina, depending on which kid you asked -- there'd been a disagreement over who had the right to name the rabbit), but we didn't pat it all that often. Bunnies aren't that friendl...more

All three of my children went through a couple of copies of Pat the Bunny until they were tattered and torn. It is a wonderfully tactile book that gives every excuse to snuggle up with a child. That is the true language of a children's book: the language of love that passes between a parent and child. It has very little to do with words.

Three things I love about this book:

1. The smell of the flowers
2. The weird retro look of the family
3. How my daughter reacts to the book: Examples:
Instead of patting the bunny, she PRESSES it really hard. She delights in playing peek-a-boo with Paul. Oh, and she says that "daddy" looks like me, her mommy.

It was so fun to watch my baby daughter interact completely with this book. Now she is almost two, is fully conversational, and still loves it. She will bring it to me, sit on my lap, and ask me to read it to her. Among her favorite activities: Patting the bunny (of course), playing peek-a-boo with Paul, reading Judy's little book, smelling the flowers, looking in the mirror, and feeling daddy's scratchy face. Notwithstanding the book's sort of delicate construction, it has held up very well ove...more

My daughter loved this book, especially the sandpaper for "Daddy's whiskers." And of course, my niece has Bunny who has "lots of stitches" (in her words) because he is so well loved.

Cute, sweet and surprisingly addictive, even if you're a grown up. I loved reading this to my niece when she was a baby. Hell, I read it long after she'd made it to kindergarten.

Pat the Bunny, it can be said, was the forerunner of a whole new style of book, and as such should be given ample credit for the inherent creativity in its design. First released in 1940, I can imagine that Pat the Bunny stood head and shoulders above most other books for preschoolers of its day, interacting as it did with all of the senses (including smell, assuming that the special anniversary edition I read is a completely faithful replica of the original).

While the book is a very short on...more

I liked Samuel Beckett's version better.

One of the creepiest kids books ever.

Bunnies disgust me.

This book is particularly dear to us because we received it as a baby shower gift from a 101 years old lady by the name of ... Dorothy. We read it together many times a week when my son was in infancy (and he still brings it out to read every so often). It's sweet and unpretentious, and it's interactive providing the following activities: you can pat the bunny's fur, touch daddy's scratchy unshaved face, look in the mirror, play peek-a-boo, smell the flowers, read a book, try a ring on. It's so...more

My parents already had a copy of Pat the Bunny by Dorothy Kunhardt. The interactive you can do with the child and the book is so great. Children love to be able to dive into a book at use all the senses. There is even a little book inside the book! There is also a page that the child can smell the flowers, and they do smell. Great book for infants. This book was in our text in chapter 4 pertaining to toy books.

We went through about 5 or 6 of these books. One got gummed by my son and it became stuck together. (note to self -- never assume a book in a car seat is a good thing. It becomes a teething ring). We had tears, rips, and bent pages in one. We loved and loved and touched and drooled. I use the we since the book was a shared experience with a parent, but this book was a tactile delight. I loved the simple, almost ugly pictures. Glob-like people, bunnies, cats, dogs etc. in Easter egg colors, but t...more

This book is great for kids. It gets kids involved; instead of just reading to them, they get to touch and feel the book as well. It helps kids learn about different textures and colors. It teaches them that the world is has such variety and there is so much to learn. This book is good for babies and toddlers to learn and play with.

the description says this is a puzzle; I meant to say 4 stars for the toddler book, that I think had the same name. My copy of the book was so old that I don't know if it's the same version now called a board book, and mine is worn out and gone. Anyway, it's suitable for very young children.

How do you review Pat the Bunny? It's almost more a toy than a book, with pages to touch and smell and flaps to lift. My baby is too little to appreciate it at this point and it doesn't really work as just a storybook for bedtime, but I look forward to the day when he can play with this.

I really like the interactiveness of this book. I'd really like to see it in a variety of formats because the only thing I don't like about it is the "Dick and Jane" blonde-haired purely Caucasian-ness of the characters. The world I live in, the world I've raised my children in, it's a very diverse one. I have a preference for diversity in the literature I read and that I recommend. One of the reasons animal characters are so fabulous in children's books is that they can defy classification. A g...more

A childhood favorite of mine that I will share with my own child(ren). It is short and simple but allows a growing child to read along with you as you read through the story with them. It also allows them to feel various items and participate with the story.

Pat the Bunny is the perfect gift for any reader under the age of two. The various textures, patterns, and images will surprise and delight young readers at each turn of the page. Pat the Bunny has reason to be timeless; its appeal never fades.

My sister recommended this book to me several years ago. When I heard the title, I assumed this was a book about a bunny named Pat. Ha!

A simple little book, but it is very exciting for toddlers as it is interactive. Both of my children have been excited when they read it.

Tonight my son selected this from the bookshelf. We would still be reading it if it were up to him. Judy and Paul can do lots of things. As we see, so can our children.

This book has a special place in my heart, because it has such a special place in my daughter's heart. I'm not sure which she fell in love with first -- the book or the stuffed Pat the Bunny her grandmother bought. (Actually, Nana bought Bunny for her older sister, but Jo fell in love with him at first sight and pretty much stole him. However, that is a deep dark family secret, as Jo is convinced that Nana gave Bunny to HER.)

Anyway, about the book: Like, "Good Night Moon," it is essential readin...more

I did not own a Pat the Bunny book (that I remember, anyway) but I believe I had nieces and nephews with this book. I love this book. I've spent time in bookstores patting the bunny.

I read this with my cousin JD:-) I don't know what was more fun...reading this cute book, or seeing how happy it made may cousin!!!!! I think seeing my cousin so happy:-)

A classic I just recently discovered. Charming retro look. Loved reading the memories of others who remember reading it as a child or are now reading it to their own children.

When my son was little, we enjoyed reading this touch and feel book.
Great for kids aged 1-4. Very young children can damage this book, so keep an eye on vigorous readers!

We read this to Jane Claire every day. She had a "Pat the Bunny" doll. I was a long time before my husband realized that "pat" in this case, is a verb.

I don't feel fair reviewing or rating children's books such as this. I think the book is charming in its own way - I especially love the mini book within it. For a long while, this is one of the to-go-book to keep AD entertained.

I used to read this book every time I went over to my next-door-neighbor's house. I was enchanted by the sensory experience: patting the bunny, smelling the flowers, feeling Daddy's scratchy whiskers, and of course, putting your finger through Mommy's ring!

Having recently rediscovered it while nannying for a little boy with two moms, I really only found fault with the old-fashioned family portrayal. But reading it aloud, I could easily change the man's name to "Uncle Steve" to make the story mo...more

The best thing about this book was the bunny and it wasn't even the star of the book. The bunny gets 3 stars, the book gets 1. Poor bunny!
