This is so funny! It really does have useful information, but I'm a mom twice over, so nothing in it was news to me. If I were to gift this to someone, it would be the dad-to-be.
As funny as it is, the graphics catch your eye and the information is laid out in a logical manner. It literally is an instruction book about babies. I think it would take out some of the mystery that usually scares guy silly.
One of the first things covered is "The Baby: Diagram and Parts List" a...more

The Baby Owner’s Manual by Louis Borgenicht, MD, and Joe Borgenicht, D.A.D., can be used as a reference guide by all new parents and probably some who already have children. The main approach of the book is similar to how a manual would talk about your new stereo or other consumer product by first describing its parts and functions and then discussing care and maintenance. There are tips on how to perfectly swaddle the baby and how to deal with emergency situations. Included also is a section on...more

This seems like a silly joke book at first, but it's actually useful. I think most people who said it was 'awful' or 'unhelpful' either don't have a sense of humor or completely missed the point. I'm not sure what people are looking for in baby books, but this one has pretty much all the basics: how to hold, how to bathe, how to swaddle, feed, etc. If new parents are looking for something deeper like 'how to make baby a highly moral being' or 'how to teach my baby to read in five languages befor...more
Written like an owner's manual for a new piece of equipment (if that turns you, move along), the book explains much of what you want/need to know about making sure your baby functions well. The book is presents in a fun, easy to digest format the pertinent information a soon-to-be parent is looking to learn about. How often, how-to wash your infant, and what safety measures when doing so; how to "program" your baby's sleep cycle; baby-proofing, what common ailments look like; how to pick up a ba...more

The set treats the baby as a computer unit fresh out of the box, complete with a big Quick Start guide. The book is full of good information and all the items are both funny and useful. Its the sort of gift that you will buy time and time again. (I've bought two, so far).

Short and funny, and written with the male mind in mind. Although not overly detailed, it was still comforting, as it breaks down the steps for taking care of a child into easy-to-follow instructions. It is definitely not a "baby bible", but a good starting point.
This was a gift from a co-worker; apparently it's a gift that goes around to each expectant parent in our IT department, and I can see why. The book is formatted like a manual for a piece of technical equipment and it really appeals to the IT nerd in me. After reading this, I want to make about 10 different spreadsheets to track my baby's growth, development, and daily activities, and I'm excited about it. That may sound sick, but if you're an IT person, you totally understand what I'm talking a...more
This book was recommended to me by a friend with two little ones. I really enjoyed it. It provided good information regarding babycare in an entertaining fashion.
The book included information on basic tasks like changing a baby, swaddling, etc.
Parents who resent babies being referred to as if they were electronic devices probably wouldn't enjoy this book.
Those with a sense of humor about parenting may both enjoy this book and find it highly useful.

Found this book to be very fun and informative. It is essentially a guide to taking care of babies, but it is written in the style and language of an owner's manual. A little kitschy, but I actually came to enjoy it's very straight to the point style of communication. It ended up being very informative and insightful. I definitely recommend it to anyone expecting their first. I wish I had read it right before ours was born instead of a few months after.
Cute little design-forward primer to to basic baby functioning, a great gift from Shauna and Tim, I've had since before Luxmi's birth, but only really had time to finish with paternity leave.
It's nothing ground-breaking re: raising a baby, but the layout and simplicity are totally the right speed for people who only have 10min (sleep-deprived) attention-spans for gleaning the info.
Great gift, good enough reference guide.

Wasn't expecting much since I bought it as more of a cute novelty gift for my husband, but this book is actually very useful! It's funny in a geeky sort of way, but also contains helpful tips like diagrams for swaddling, nursery set up, "trouble shooting" various scenarios etc. Information is presented concisely (thank god) and there are lots of lists and charts to make finding what you're looking for hassle-free.
This book provides baby care information in a clear and concise manner. Being baby clueless, this was a great overall review of baby care for me. I liked how it was broken down, easy to read and focused on the basic, necessary info.
The book's cute owner's manual format was way less bothersome than I thought it would be especially once I started getting into it. This would make a great gift for a new mom or dad.

Written like a humorous technical manual, the book does have good general information. However, the humor can be frustrating to a new parent who just needs the information quickly and isn't in the mood. This would be a good guide for parents or grandparents to read in preparation for a baby, but another book like the Mayo Clinic Guide to Your Baby's First Year is better once the baby arrives.
A silly book. While it's fun, it's not enduring fun. I found myself rather bored with the humor after the first red.
The second star was given because I sat next to a childhood friend while she read it. She was overwhelmed with laughter. Seeing her delight in the pages made my day. Somethings, like this book, are just a lot better when shared with a friend.

As the time when I'll become a parent for the first time grows closer, this book hit the spot. It's a perfect mix of clever, informative, funny, clever, and informative. It really is written like a manual and, to my knowledge, covers all the bases of things I'd need to know as Daddy-day and Daddy-dom is thrust upon me. It's simple, written in a way that just about anyone could understand, and has super graphics and illustrations. I'm glad I ran across it and would recommend it to anyone that is...more
This is the book to read if you don't want to read a normal baby book. It puts things into terms that are more akin to that of a normal owner's manual for a major appliance. It talks about things that range from the installation of the baby unit into the home(preparing the baby room) to when to see the unit's service provider(pediatrician). It was quite informative, and still funny to read.
I'll probably read this at least twice more before the baby gets here--this was sooo helpful and funny. It's written in the style of a manual for a laptop or other electronic device, and it has these adorable (but useful!) diagram-style drawings in here. It make having a baby seem much less scary and more like, "OK, I've programmed a VCR--I can totally handle this!" Highly recommended for the new-parents out there.

A good "brushing up" for those with some experience with children. A great explanation for those that have no clue and interesting for those with experience.
Not laugh out loud funny and with only a hint of irreverence, it reads like an instruct manual but with humor.

This book was always going to be a slightly humourous way of explaining baby stuff, so even when the points made are really obvious, you can giggle a little at the wording and imagery.
The first half is straightforward dot point advice that most people would know or would have found out from any baby book. The last two chapters covered growth and development then emergency safety information. In those chapters they managed to dot-point their way through a lot more information than I've seen in a...more
