As an avid fan of The Tapestry series, I eagerly awaited the arrival of The Maelstrom. It was more than I even hoped for! In this fourth installment, the series moves into epic territory. Some of my favorite elements: After being on separate adventures in The Fiend and the Forge, the duo are reunited. And, truly, it feels so good! I really enjoyed seeing them rekindle their friendship and spur each other on in matters from mystic and demonic to romantic and even silly. Yes, The Maelstrom covers...more

Yesterday afternoon, I purchased my very own copy of "The Maelstrom", the fourth book in Mr. Henry Neff's beautiful Tapestry series.
And I finished it early this afternoon.
Of course, what can you expect form an avid fan of Henry Neff's remarkable books?
Three words: I loved it. I know, it's pretty vague but I don't know how else to put it.
Mr. Neff puts a spin on many chapters that leaves me gasping and hanging on the edge of my seat. The characters are beautifully written and so realistically...more

There is no word that can completely describe the utter stunning, breathtaking, awesome, extraordinary, mind-blowing, jaw-dropping book that Henry H. Neff wrote. The Maelstrom is the best book I have ever read, period. The plot, the characters, the themes are so beautiful and complex that this story is a work of art.

I have the "sad" habit of starting a book series and of course liking them so much that I have to read each one in the series but it often takes so long for each book to come out it is hard to remember what happened previously. Even so, I usually still enjoy the books and this book, #4 of The Tapestry is no exception.

Max McDaniels is a student of mystical and magical combat at the Rowan Academy. The Academy sits within the Demon Kingdom. Laws have been issued to govern the life of the people living in Rowan. In this fourth adventure, the fortress Gravenmuir, where the demons hold court and oversee Rowan’s obedience, has been magically destroyed by the mysterious and powerful sorcerer Elias Bram.
But all is still not well. If Rowan is to keep its new found independence it will have to find a way to take on the...more

Dear Mr. Neff,
Your book, "The Maelstron" ruined my life. This book is why didn't sleep the last two nights. This book is why my eyes are red this morning, and my face is stained with tears. This book is the reason why I have been having insane moodswings. This book was amazing. Literally breathtaking. I was excited for it to arrive, because all the Tapestry book are incredible, but once I started reading, I began to have doubts. Neff adds another page turning adventure to his Tapestry series. Max has just returned from Bliss to find many refugees seeking shelter outside Rowan Academy. Astaroth has been weakened by David Menlo but according to Elias Brom (David's father), Astaroth is still the biggest threat to this world. Meanwhile, demon hordes are gathering, attempting to consolidate power in Astaroth's absence. Prusias is the greatest of these threats.

War is scarry! The fear of death, the needless destruction and loss of friends. That is exactly what has happended to the world of Asteroh. The demons have declaired war on each other. When will this world war impact on Rowan? That is exacly what the people of Rowan want to know.
The fourth book in the Tapestry series is action packed and gripping. There is so much packed into this novel. War, deception, betrayal, friendship, love, growth, happiness, etc. Can our heros stand up to the challenge?...more

I loved The Maelstrom by Henry H. Neff, the fourth book in his series, The Tapestry. It had some great action scenes, cool magic, revelations and secrets and a huge romantic plot twist. All in all, this book really sets up for the final book in the series, The Red Winter, due later this year. This book also has the illustrations of the last books, that help tie the whole story together with visuals, especially in the cases of the daemons, who are rather hard to visualize. This book adds new dram...more
So many great endings to series and continuations to series have been coming out that I was completely surprised when I found Henry Neff's 4th book on my library shelves! I was very pleased by this book. It was very cohesive and went right along with the arc of the plot throughout the series as I thought it should. I felt like Neff really developed Max's character nicely and I love his "love interest" (although I shouldn't say more for fear of being branded a 'spoiler'!

Another great installment in The Tapestry.
I love this series, and I also love how it changes. The world in The Maelstrom is mostly definitely different to the world in The Hound of Rowan. It is a younger sort of world, where older and more ancient powers are wreaking havoc.
The things revealed about Astaroth also really got my brain going. I love Astaroth, one of the most genteel and friendly bad guys you will ever have the pleasure of meeting. But you wonder, is he really evil? Is he really a d...more

As The Maelstrom by Henry H. Neff opens, war is on the horizon. After protagonist Max's arch-enemy, the demon Prusias, gained the Book of Thoth and the ability to change the past, present and future, Earth has been turned upside down. Normal society no longer exists, technology has been rewinded and most humans live in a world similar to medieval times. Rowan, a school for those with mystic (magical) abilities has become a haven, taking in refugees and trying to escape the notice of the demons'...more
Simply based upon the fact that more people should read this series, it has received a 5. At some point I will go back and revise my various ratings, but for now, READ THIS SERIES!
I found some parts of this installment to drag just a bit. There was so much story the author tried to cover, and without gearing it towards adults and taking a B. Sanderson epic approach, I can understand some of the challenges and limitations. This said, those parts slowed it down.

I LOVED IT!!!!!
It's weird to think about how much the world has changed since the first book. The world used to be like ours with modern technology, homes and museums. Now, in the fourth book, the world has been changed into something more like the medieval days.
This book was packed full of action and reminded me of the Lord of the Rings!!!!!
The only part that I was really suprised about and didn't really know what to make of it (I actually still don't) was Max's and Scathach's relationship....more

I didn't like the ending, it wasn't satisfying.
I mean, there should be more action when Perusia revealed his true form and what happend when Mina casted some spell over him? From the description, it sounded like she only branded him with the symbol of Rowan.
And what happened with Astaroth? He was the one who was the min potagonist in the story, i think that it would be fair knowing what happened to him after Max reisted tempation. Did Bram finally find him? Did Bram find who Astaroth really wa...more

Max is back at Rowan after his time traveling throughout Blys, and now is part of preparations as war approaches. He is a legend, must be a leader, and continue to be a young man - not an easy task. Enjoyable fourth book -darker than others in this category - even at the darkest hour, there was always a silly magical feast or food at Hogwarts. For Max, there is no train to take back to the non-magical world because all that was erased.

3/12/13 ** Very enjoyable. Definitely read through the whole series. Can't wait 6 months for the concluding volume - oh, I guess I have to.
Toby the smee is such a ladies' yam. Fourth in a continually strong series. Great for fans of Harry Potter and Percy Jackson.
....David is awesome, Max is incredible, and Umbra is the best new addition to the cast of characters that I could have hoped for. I am dying to get the fifth book. C= Amazing, in every way. The characters developed and changed, growing in a way that made them seem all the more real. This wasn't a knight in shining armor, this was Max, who has his own troubles to face and is trying to save the world while he is at it. The plot was amazing! I am intrigued as to what may happen next. If I could ev...more
Enjoyed this as much as the second book, and more than the third! Now I can't wait for the 5th!
