Judy Moody is up to her old tricks, this time with the help of a very lucky penny. She’s winning at everything she tries – bowling, spelling, and even the never-to-beat claw machine, until she drops the penny in an unfortunate spot and it becomes the unlucky penny. When Judy discovers that she gave up on luck too soon, she recovers the penny to ride her luck all the way to Washington D.C. Oh lucky day! This is book eleven in the series, with a reading level of grade 3.

Sometimes I get a little embarrassed by my love for middle grade fiction because it often leads me to wander through the kids section. Most of the time, I spend most of my time in the kids section of a bookstore because I love middle grade books. People have asked me why I like reading "kid books" and usually my response is because I love being able to share them with my students. I used to think that there was no restriction on how far down the grades I could go and still enjoy the books. God k...more
Just when you think Judy Moody cannot get any better, it does. Including this book, there are 11 Judy Moody story books, 3 Judy Moody Activity books, 2 Judy Moody and Stink cross-over books and 9 Stink Moody books. For a series about one family to have 25 books and the authors to come up with more great ideas is amazing and wonderful all rolled up together. My children are just discovering these books and they love them. They love Judy and Stink, they love the illustrations and they find the sto...more
The idea of a good luck charm is a nice choice of topic for a chapter book, because I think a lot of kids wish for magical objects, or at least pretend everyday things like pennies and rocks can grant them wishes. I also like the fact that Judy ultimately learns that her good fortune comes from her own actions and not from magical outside sources. Finally, I think this book fills the need for more pig-related chapter books for Mercy Watson fans looking for what to read next.

that it was great
Of all the Judy Moody books this one was my least favorite. Toward the end of the book I just got sick of reading the rudeness between Judy and Jessica Finch. The fact that the parents were present and said nothing about their negative nastiness made it that much worse. Other than that section of the book it was a normal fun book about the quirky yet flawed Judy Moody and her family. However if this was the first Judy Moody book I picked up it would have been the last.

"Sometimes I think I am Judy Moody," says Megan McDonald, author of the Judy Moody series, the Stink series, and THE SISTERS CLUB. "I'm certainly moody, like she is. Judy has a strong voice and always speaks up for herself. I like that."
For Megan McDonald, being able to speak up for herself wasn't always easy. She grew up as the youngest of five sisters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Her father, an...more
