A sweet and angsty read. A great debut!

I'm a bit ambivalent about this book. I found it to be a light, easy read, yet I never felt invested in the characters or the storyline. The only time I did have feelings about the book was towards the end, and even then that wasn't enough to really engage me. (view spoiler)...more

Sophia meets Xavier again for the first time in ten years. He was her first love. She was his inspiration. The only problem she doesn't remember him due to a terrible car accident.
They fall into each others arms and then into bed, mainly due to the pressure her mother and grandmother are placing on her. All women of her station have a responsibility to family and to society, but Sophia isn't ready to conform to what society dictates.

This was a great love story for me. Imagine it...one guy willing to do whatever it takes to find the girl he loves; the one girl that has had his heart for the last 10 years. Rising out of poverty...becoming a successful fashion designer...making things happen for himself....all to get to the girl he loves. Whoa! To me that is magical. But he doesn't just stop when he finds her. He risks it all to help her remember him. He takes her back to where it all started for them 10 years before when they...more
A Past Love Recaptured
Justine Dell's debut contemporary romance has a regal, formal air about it, making the novel feel not so contemporary. It's a romance between the lovely English lass Sophia and the dashing fashion designer Xavier.
Most of the story occurs "across the pond" in England's upper-class circles, where Sophia Montel lives with her mother. Sophia is twenty-seven and lives a somewhat aimless existence following a horrible car crash that stole her memories ten years ago. Her mother re...more

You. Guys.
I know it's weird, considering my job and all, but straight up romance is not my favorite genre. So when I tell you that I ADORED this book, I am telling you that this story is so good it goes beyond genre. I would literally get nervous when the Xavier and Sophia were not together. (they need to be together! they must be together!! AGH! The angst!)
On that subject...Xavier? Swoon. He's so sweet. You are going to love him.

I received this book as a Goodreads First Reads. I didn't realize it was more of an adult-romance and unfortunately, I came across a graphic love scene...so I didn't finish it. Had I realized it had this in it I would not have started the book in the first place. If you prefer not to read gratuitous scenes in novels I suggest you stay away from this one.

LOVE this book! This is just the kind of lush love story that I adore. From the gorgeous fashions to the great locations--London, NYC, Hamptons--to the very passionate (hot) romance. The alternating POV worked well. Xavier's parts were as heart-wrenching as Sophia's. It's easy to get swept away by this one. Highly recommend!
