As an avid reader and fan of sweet love stories, I wanted to like this book. As a Christian, I wanted to LOVE this book. However, neither can be said, which makes me sad that I spent two days reading it, when I could have (and should have) moved on to another book.
The story simply put is about a group of older women, who are the matchmakers for their small town of Butternut Creek. These women are not likeable in any fashion. They connive. They gossip. They are bossy and rude, without a care for...more

Jane Myers Perrine has a delightful grasp of the English language, and she has written a story full of humorous nuances and wonderful, heart-warming characters whose antics are so enjoyable that it's difficult to put the book down! I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in the series (The Welcome Committee of Butternut Creek) and loved again visiting the world of Miss Birdie and Pastor Adam, and watching a unique yet surprisingly touching relationship develop between Adam and Gussie. I do have to a...more

In the small town of Butternut Creek, Texas, a group of elderly ladies, known as the Widows have made it their personal challenge to find a suitable wife for the new young pastor, Adam Jordan. The challenge is that most of the young, single women have either married already or there are one or two remaining that don't seem to be interested in Adam at all. But make no mistake, they aren't about to give up, even if it means sitting in the pastor's office every morning to consult with him on his lo...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Nice for holiday reading because it is about nice people in real situations...nothing over the top or in your face. Good to read that sometimes. This is the continuing story of a group of "church ladies", The Widows, and their plans to get there young unmarried pastor involved with a suitable lady and thereby get him married and filling the parsonage with little ones. I like the down to earth portrayal of the young minister. He does not walk on water, simply lives...more

I didn’t get to read the first book in the series, but I really loved book 2 and it’s a great stand alone book also.
The Matchmakers of Butternut Creek is a charming, old fashioned type of book with all of the modern day problems and the faith to see the people through.
Pastor Adam is such a kind, helpful person and he doesn’t take offence at the Widows trying to find him a wife and how they try to have him do everything they way. He shows them love and compassion, but does things the right way...more

Good characterizations, lots of subplots, fun and easy read. One thing I didn't like was the thought that several ministers/pastors just accept that premarital sex is completely okay. Perhaps this is just indicative of the time in which we live, but it's wrong.

I love the writing of Jane Myers Perrine we have followed the minister that is new to the town for the last book and this book and it has been just a mystery who he was going to fall for and well it has been great. I again am looking to a book #3 in The Matchmakers of Buttercreek as they are so canaving and are just in everyones mix as young people would say. Such a wonderful book.

I really enjoyed this book and the sequel (#3) will be coming out
this year. I love the Widows! They make the preachers life "hell"
but he loves to thwart them. I think we'll meeet Adam's parents
and sister in the third book. Fun!
