My first exposure to Jeff Abbott was his last-minute addition as a co-panelist at the Pacific Northwest Writers Association conference in Seattle last summer (2012). After meeting him and hearing him speak about his new series character Sam Capra, a former CIA agent, I’ve been looking forward to picking up one of Jeff’s books. I started with THE LAST MINUTE, the book he spoke about at PNWA, instead of the first Sam Capra novel, ADRENALINE. (I’m terrible when it comes to starting a series at the...more

This is the second in the series using this main character, Sam Capra. Sam is an ex-CIA agent. His ex-wife is in a coma after being part of a renegade group that targeted CIA agents. In the previous book, the office where SAm and his wife worked was bombed. Just minutes before the bomb went off, his wife phoned him to tell him to get out. Initially, he was considered a suspect and was imprisoned by the CIA, while they investigated his story. His wife gave birth to a baby boy and then was shot in...more

To say that Sam Capra is motivated would be an understatement. His ex-wife, who committed treason against the CIA and cost Sam his job with the "Special Projects", now lies in a permanent vegetative state. His former employers are actively pursuing him for his alleged crimes that occurred while trying to clean up the mess that his wife created. On top of that, a mysterious criminal group, The Nine Suns, has kidnapped his newborn son, Daniel. The only way Sam will ever see his son again is if he...more

This is a classic spy, secret agent, CIA thriller -- and not my preferred genre, however, I gave it a try as a "free-be" from a friend. It was indeed action packed and had some interesting characters with strange pasts. Sam Capra, ex CIA agent, is driven to perform an assassination as the only option in saving his kidnapped son. The two strong women integrated into the complex, fast-paced plot have interesting pasts and ratchet it up even more. The second half of the book was better than the fir...more

Mila torna-se assim, numa lutadora determinad...more

Former CIA operative Sam Capra is being manipulated by two opposing groups. One group with a cast of criminals worldwide has his baby. In order to get the son he’s never seen back, Sam must commit a murder. The side supporting him takes the opposite approach and seeks to meet out vigilante justice.

I loved this fast paced story so full of twists and turns. Every time I thought I’d figured out something, I found myself surprised. This is my first experience with reading Jeff Abbott’s books. I must...more

Can't wait to read... But I want to read Adrenaline first before starting this book.
*update*

*Won through a Goodreads giveaway*

Before starting this book, I read book one in the Sam Capra series Adrenaline. If I can help it, I try to read book series in succession. Although I won this one, I'm glad I did not make an exception to read this one without reading the first. Book one really laid down the background for the reason why Capra's mission is so important and fuels the plot for The Last Minut...more

My best advice for this Sam Capra series is to suspend reality before opening the first page and just enjoy the ride. I usually get annoyed with protagonists who are uber-fit and capabable and never seem to suffer the consequences of life-threathening battle after battle. But Sam's trying to be a good guy in a not-so-good world, and he's a bit of a tortured soul. He also isn't a know-it-all or crusader, and that's what makes the series enjoyable.

I didn't care for Leonie but Mina is growing on m...more

Fast paced and downright unpredictable, love that in crime stories! It was like go, go, go! XD

Given the premise, I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into. Great stuff! Great characters. Great writing!

I read from other reviews that reading the first book Adrenaline is not necessary to enjoy this book, and I agree. I didn't feel lost at all. Just pleasantly surprised, of course, whenever a twist or turn came my way. XD

I won this from a first-reads giveaway, and I plan on reading the first one...more

I enjoyed this book, but I had a hard time getting into it. I noticed that one of the other reviewers mentioned she read the first book in the series before reading this one. I think that may have helped me as I did not connect with the characters early on. Then the narrator changed and I learned some back history. From that point on I really got into the book and enjoyed it.

The book tells of an underground crime network that has kidnapped an agent's child. The agent must kill someone who holds...more

I had trouble getting in to this book. It seemed every chapter was about new characters. And certainly some of the action reads like a script for the beginning of a new Bond movie: chasing someone across roof, grabbing them and jumping off the roof, landing alive, chasing the other guy buy jumping on and clinging to the side of a bus, etc.

Definitely on the unbelievable side. But I found myself caught up in in and towards the end did not want to put it down.

This is the second book in a two part series about Sam Capra-CIA agent. I enjoyed both books immensely so much so that I plan to read more by Abbott. I listened to both books on audible which is why it took me so long to finish. If I had been reading-I am sure I would have been done long ago. Sam is a very likeable character from the moment you meet him. And his quest to find his baby son who he has never met continues in the second book. He comes close many times but the powers that be will sto...more

The biggest complaint of this title I could find was that the cover was different to the majority of his other titles, not that it's a bad cover but I liked the simplicity of Panic, Fear etc.
This books fast paced, enjoyable and impossible to put down, Abbot is my favourite thriller author and I always end up buying one of his books at an airport, I'll have finished it by the other side.

I was really on the fence between three and four stars for this book, which I received for free through Goodreads First Reads. I enjoyed this sequel to Adrenaline, probably even more than the first book. I was glad to learn Mila's story and more about the two organizations, Novem Solus and The Round Table, that have pitted Sam Capra in the middle of their battle with each other. The storyline kept me hooked for the most part, which is why I gave it four stars.

My indecision about the rating lies...more

The follow up to Adrenaline picks up the story of Sam Capra. Searching for his son he is about to find out if there is anything he will not do to save his newborn son. The Last Minute has plenty of action and suspense. Although not necessary, I do believe the 2nd book will be more enjoyable if you have read Adrenaline. The background on the characters is worked in over time in this book and if you haven't read the 1st book I don't think the beginning of this book will be as interesting while you...more

Second in the Capra series and its as fast-paced and nail-biting as the first one as he works against the clock and impossible odds to get his newborn son back while dealing with all kinds of new evil characters to contend with. Couldn't put it down and while providing a satisfying end, it leaves room for the next book.
Linda
This is the second in what already is a fantastic series featuring Sam Capra. You must read Adrenaline first to really appreciate this book (well you can pick up whats happened previously but why miss reading a good book) Sam's son has been kidnapped and he will do anything to get him back, even murder. Action packed, well written and a page turner. Loved it!
Tina
I didn't think I would like this book in the beginning because the plot was too complex and the characters ALL had secrets and lived double lives. But Abbott kept the reader well informed so I never felt lost. This book was set in an urban/international arena so I think Jack would like it :)
ARK
I love how this guy writes. From the first page of Adrenaline to the last it moves. Finished it a week ago and now I am reading book two of Sam Capra's chase and run. Don't want to give away anything here in case you have not read the first book. All I can say is fasten the seat belt cause you're in for a ride. Gotta go..only on the second chapter..need to get a couple more in before passing out tonite.
Doug
This is the follow up book to "Adrenaline", but you don't need to read the first book to enjoy this one.
Sam Capra is now searching for his kidnapped infant son, still dealing with the international crime group Nine Suns and his CIA contacts. Good, fast moving guy type of book
Ken
The novel features a fast-paced plot, yet not much character development or attention to setting and location. It reminded me of something that the author James Patterson might punch out with the help of his 'writing team'. Another book to file under 'Lite Summer Reading' or 'Airport Novel'.
Joe O'c
Very Good; Continuing character: Sam Capra; Sam is blackmailed into assassinating a young man who may hold the key to the destruction of the Nine Suns in order to get his son; the back story on his boss Mila is best part of book
Claire
I had difficulty getting into this book and nearly gave up on it but glad I didn't. The first 100 or so pages switched between scenes so quickly it was hard to get a grasp of the characters. As another reviewer has said perhaps you need to read the first Capra book to understand the background. I am now on chapter 39 and enjoying the fast pace.
Mark Pool
It's rare in my experience where the second book in a series exceeds the first book. And, once again, the secondary character of Mila is first rate. Attention Jeff Abbott: How about a series with Mila as the primary character?
Melissa
I liked part of this book & I was annoyed by other part. I liked the back story on mila - this was the best part of the story. But Leonie was the worst. The author tried to trick us but it was more of him out right lying.
Deborah
Loved it! Actually read this before Adrenaline as I didn't realise it was part of series. Both books are well written like all Jeff Abbots are, especially love the character 'Mila' in this series hope there's more Sam Capra!
Temar
The next installment, that continues the story started in ADRENALINE, of a father searchiNg for his NEWBORN son is just as intense, on the edge of your seat FAST-pace, as the original. I love Sam Capra.
