I am really excited to see how this great series continues. Finally the release date is coming up soon. I really love the new book cover, the colours are amazing and that is great considering how colour is sooo important when it comes to this series.

Yes!!! I finally have this book after waiting a year. I am about half way done it and I love it!

I finally finished this book! I was not disapointed at all! This is an amazing fantasy novel and it is one of Brent Week's best novel yet! This is one of...more

awesome stuff so far about 100 pages in - had to reread Black prism and greatly enjoyed it again on the 4th or 5th read; great news that there will be four books in the series as the author needs another 1000+ pages to finish it

I finished the novel staying again way too late and turning the pages too fast towards the end to see what happens and I plan to start a reread later in the day to enjoy the book at leisure.

A few points (review on publication which means either Sept 11 or when i see it in...more

There are five reasons for which I would have ranked the novel lower than it deserves, were I a member of the despicable tribe of reviewers who allow personal biases - and even the extent to which they approve or not of the character’s behavior – to distort appreciation of mastery and technique. But, since when Zarathustra sprach, he sprach about me – I am immune to those petty un-Vulcan emotions.

Reasons I would have hated the book were I not Homo Superior:
1. I don’t dig p...more

Overall, it's a generally good story.

Problem, for me, lies in the amateurish writing (not mistakes) but redundancies in place. Just stupid little things that could be left out could make this book much better.
I had the same difficulty with the last book. So I won't hope for a change with the next.

Story wise, it was rather good. Fair warning, you never sense a true 'antagonist', or a real 'goal' that the characters are seeking. Maybe people will refer this to 'the characters living out their live...more

Another great, imaginative book. Only thing I don't like about it is when authors leave stories unfinished because there'll be another book in a year or two. Give me a longer book, not a cliff-hanger.

It smacks of the Back to the Future part 2 movie or is akin to a TV series past its prime hoping to keep viewers "hooked." I like books that end and sequels to pick up with another story like Brandon Sanderson's Mistborn series. I don't like one story taking 3 or 5 books to finish like A Game of Thr...more

The Blinding Knife is a book with three major plot threads and I had pretty different feelings about each of them. The largest is Kip's, the second largest is Gavin's, and the third is a significantly smaller one featuring the character Liv.

Kip's Story (4.5 Star)

I really enjoyed this part and I think it easily makes the book worth reading by itself. Kip came across to me as much more interesting and likable in this book than he did in the first book (The Black Prism). Though toward the end the...more

Fully deserving of five stars! I enjoyed this book more than the first in the series.

After his chance meeting with the Blinding Knife in the first book, Gavin now only has one year to live when he thought he had five. Unable to prevent war from breaking out, he is doing all in his power to stop it from escalating - again, at the cost of himself and those he loves. Meanwhile his bastard, Kip, is beginning to discover that he is more of a fighter than he has ever given himself credit to be. And a...more

Another excellent Brent Weeks book, excellent action sequences and some really big emotional and story payoffs in here. Some expansion on the world established in 'The Black Prism', but not so much that it felt like a patch to concepts from the first book.
I think my biggest complaint for this book would be so many build-ups without resolution, I assume to be resolved in a later book. A couple of times I was genuinely upset after reading a chapter because I was so frustrated (which I consider to...more

I keep meaning to post some more reviews, let's kick things off with this book by Brent Weeks.

The Black Prism was the novel that kicked off this latest series by Weeks. It was an interesting book that struck a chord with a bunch of us on staff because it was a good example of innovation. A magic system based on making light solid, mix in some curious world building, cool mechanics for the magic (along with a cost not unsimilar to what the Wheel of Time series does for using it).

While The Black P...more

Genre : Epic Fantasy, Action/Adventure.

It was actually a great adventure for me to complete an epic fantasy novel of 115 chapters and 671 pages (Hardcover edition) in just seven days, but I am glad that I finished it quite smoothly. Thanks to the exciting story line and the even more exciting way of story telling.

The second installment of The Lightbringer series is worth reading, but if you haven't read the first books yet, you might get lost inside the story and the alternate universe where ma...more

Brent Weeks is quite a master. Night Angel is one of, if not, my favorite series I've ever read and I thoroughly enjoyed Black Prism. From the transition between the two series (N. A. to Light Bringer), one quickly realizes how much Brent has grown as a writer. The world and magic systems are much more fleshed out in L. B. He makes the character of an epic fantasy novel feel as if they were taken from our world and simply placed in his own. Their actions and thoughts are so on point to what it f...more

When I bought this book, it was probably a mistake. I was in the middle of getting ready for my exams, and considering I had finished the first read through before my exams were done, I may have made some...less than ideal time management decisions.

And perhaps the best praise I can give Brent Weeks is that a couple weeks after I finished this book, and was heading home for the holidays, I decided a second, closer read was the best way to spend the train ride. And I regret nothing.

There are time-...more

The second book in Week's series, I think I liked this book even better than the first. The first was slow, a little difficult to understand at first and get into, but by the time I got to this book, I was already absorbed in the storyline and found it easy to ease into.

This book featured mainly Kip, Daven/Gavin, and Liv - but it also added little scenes from unknown characters who I think will be prominent in the third book, but not so important in this book. I enjoyed how Week's incorporated t...more

I'll be honest, I didn't like Brent Weeks at first. I knew his Night Angel Trilogy as the 'ninja books' in the bookstore because of their cover art. It wasn't until I saw them appear on bestfantasybooks.com's Top 25 List that I decided to pick the first one up. I couldn't get into it. The pacing was rough, the characters were shallow, and the world was bland. If I hadn't made it to around page one hundred, I probably wouldn't have picked up a book by Weeks again. I'm glad I started enjoying The...more

I have to admit that i'm disappointed. I had high expectation for this book but i found myself bored most of the time and i had trouble finishing it. In my opinion the only interesting thing were the relationships between characters, especially Karris and Dazen. Their love was really well portrayed.

Bad things (some SPOILERS):

1)Kip isn't likeable at all. I can't reconcile him mouthing off people one second and acting all shy and insecure the next moment. Even when he shows his superior ability in...more

About a year ago, I went to my local library and picked up my first Brent Weeks book. I read the Night Angel trilogy and thought it was really good. And then, about two months ago, I finally read The Black Prism and decided. Brent Weeks is one of my favorite authors. It was one of those books I just couldn't put down and kept daydreaming about even after I finished it. I was doubly excited to see The Blinding Knife was coming out soon and I didn't have long to wait. And I was not disappointed. B...more

More simply outstanding storytelling and worldbuilding by Weeks. He's so good that I feel like I need to justify why this isn't 5 stars more than I need to explain why it is 4 stars. It's 4 stars because Brent Weeks tells amazing stories, winds threads together in intricate and fascinating ways, creates characters that are believable and keep you invested, and doesn't always take you where you expect.

I guess the only reason that this story is four stars instead of five is that this series feels...more

Fresh off the back page and the first thought is that "thank God there's a fourth book". Not just because in the world of good series the more the merrier. But because if this was the penultimate instalment, then the last boom would have a lot of explaining to do. But there's gonna be 4 overall so it's all good.

To the book. Straight after the battle we begin in the middle of an ocean, where Dazen is surrounded by blue and can't draft any of it. Yet still manages to out run a sea demon. Hell of...more

This second instalment from Brent weeks was a truly enjoyable read. As with the first novel in this series he has managed to create a highly involved world even though his writing at times can be quite light hearted. I am particularly impressed with this being as his previous trilogy, the Night Angel trilogy, were far darker in their content.

Brent weeks is fast becoming one of my must read authors if for no other reason than the truly enjoyable characters he churns out. Kip (aka Breaker) is one...more

Another super adventure in this well-crafted universe. Although nearly 700 pages long (and that's why it takes me 4'ish days to read!), the intricasies in the characterisations are well worth the intense read!

Kip, our as yet undefined hero, grows in stability and understanding; and he is more of a hero than he understands! But I think he has enough friends to help him along in his development - and he IS intelligent and logical (even though his almost persona does interrupt that development). I...more

If you find the overuse of f-words and sexual situations annoying and offensive, then I recommend staying away from this book. The Black Prism was a great book, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But for some reason Brent Weeks decided to take a different tone with the Blinding Knife. I would have given it more stars, but the use of the f-word in a fantasy book is kind of turn off for me. It kind of sends cracks through my imagination which prevent me from becoming fully immersed in the world that has...more

Brent Weeks’ “Lightbringer” series is an absolute must read for fantasy fans looking for something outside the normally realms of fantasy writing. With a unique world, well developed characters, and great plot twists, this is one of the best fantasy series I’ve read in a long while.

The Blinding Knife is the second in this series, and if you haven’t read the first, “the Black Prism”, I’d really recommend that you stop reading this and go pick it up right now. In fact, if it’s been a while since...more

Insert string of profanities here over the fact that I've finished The Blinding Knife and there's no Lightbringer #3 yet. I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!!!!

I suppose that sums up well enough what I thought of this second installment of Brent Weeks' Lightbringer series. I did nothing for two days until I had finished it. The characters are so sharp and strong, even the ones who aren't. Unlike certain other big fantasy authors right now *cough*Abraham*cough* whose main characters are spiraling...more

Obviously, I read a lot. I'm at fifty two books so far this year. And this year hasn't been a year with a string of mediocre fiction. 2012 has been the year of Ready Player One, Control Point, The Night Circus, Wool and World War Z. I'll just come out and say it, The Blinding Knife is the best book I've read this year.

I've not been bashful about my love for Brent Weeks' books. My original intention was to write a You Should Be Reading post about him before reviewing The Blinding Knife. But this...more

I'm not sure I'm happy with this one. IMO, there wasn't enough development although a lot of stuff happened. I feel like either it should have ended sooner or been extended a few more chapters. It just stopped.

This is not to say that I wasn't glued to this book enjoying every minute. It just made me wish I could wait to read the entire series all at once.

This is probably the most tepid review for a 4-star book that I've ever done so I guess I'll stop here.

I couldn't wait to start reading The Blinding Knife - the sequel to The Black Prism. The downside is that I have to wait for the third and fourth books. The third book is rumored to be due for release early 2013 - its May so hope it'll be soon.

I enjoyed the book, the characters, the world, the magic, the story line.

The Blinding Knife starts with Gavin Guile coming to terms with the fact that he can't draft blue; how can you be Prism if you can't draft every colour? He also has many things on his...more

Review:

Every time I read a book by Brent Weeks, I somehow become even more of a fan. I loved the first book in this series, The Black Prism, and this was a brilliant second book to the series. Having finished it, I can’t wait for the next one!

This story follows right on from the first book with the problems of the Chromeria, the emergence of The Colour Prince and the fact that the Prism is dying. Honestly, if you haven’t read the first book and that doesn’t make sense to you, I seriously advise...more

Brent Weeks was born and raised in Montana. After getting his paper keys from Hillsdale College, Brent had brief stints walking the earth like Caine from Kung Fu, tending bar, and corrupting the youth. (Not at the same time.) He started writing on bar napkins, then on lesson plans, then full time. Eventually, someone paid him for it. Brent lives in Oregon with his wife, Kristi. He doesn’t own cats...more
