In a quaint New England town with a history of witches and pilgrims, misunderstood eleven-year-old Norman Babcock can see and talk to ghosts. No one believes him, of course-everyone just thinks he's weird (including his parents). But when a folktale of a witch who cursed her accusers turns out to be true, it's up to Norman to save the town from pilgrim zombies! He'll also...more

Sayangnya, kemudian salah seorang rekan kerja saya membawanya masuk.

Review to come after I see the movie August 17th.
Just know that I loved every bit of it. :D

Awesome book. I can't see ghosts, but most people at school think I'm weird. My regards, Norman.

Khas anak-anak.

Eniwei, aku agak terganggu karena nama tokoh utamanya "Norman". Terbayang...more

When I received ParaNorman I was extremely excited. I'd seen posters up, advertising the new animated movie about a boy who could talk to ghosts, and who had to save the little witchy town he lived in from a zombie invasion. As I didn't go see the movie, I thought I would read the book, and I'm so glad I did! ParaNorman was a fun-filled, middle-grade adventure about a misfit boy that proves his worthiness to the town and how different can be used to a greater extent.

As I haven't seen the movie o...more

My interest in vampires has waned considerably in the last decade, yet every time you look around there’s a new book about them. It seems, however, that tv shows, movies, books, games, etc., about zombies are slowly creeping their way to take center stage. Could zombies be the new black? Time will tell.

“ParaNorman” is one of those modern books that wear its politically correct message very much on its sleeve, like a T-shirt slogan that reads “Meat is Murder”. Norman Babcock also learns a useful...more

This was a cute book. I have not seen the movie so I don't know how exact a replication the book is, but I do believe the movie came out first. Fast read, not a lot of characterization. This is more of an action-oriented book.

I went into this book unaware that it was a novelization, thinking the movie was maybe based on a book. It is clear from reading this that it is a novelization, and as such it was kind of a slog for me - it felt like reading a description of a movie.

I liked Norman and the concept of his being able to converse with ghosts and how that alienates him from everyone else. I like how the book addresses issues, where it is convenient for the story, of being different and self-acceptance. It's inelegant...more

Norman is a weird kid nobody wants to be with. In his opinion, he is not weird at all. He just happens to have a super unatural talent.
He can speak to ghost . . . or the dead.
He can see them, hear them and talk to them . . . but nobody else can. All people can see is Norman speaking to himself, Normal screaming by himself, Norman saying hi to no one in particular. He is friendless but he doesn't care. When people die, he doesn't get quiet as upset as everyone else, knowing that he is going to s...more

From my blog at http://brensbookstoread.blogspot.com/

Norman Babcock is definitely not your average 11-year-old. Like everyone else, he gets bullied, annoys his older sister, needs friends, and has a hard time talking to his parents. But UNLIKE everyone else, he can talk ghost. Not just one or two, but every ghost in town. While for him it's normal, everyone else wonders why this wacky kid is talking to thin air.

Things just get worse and the 300th anniversary of the local witch trial. Norman is h...more

Norman Babcock is the only resident of his town able to see the ghosts who warn of impending doom resulting from witch trials 300 years before. Norman, best friend Salma (who has all the answers) and his love-struck sister need to outwit witches, zombies and ghouls in an attempt to save the town.

This potentially popular action oriented horror/comedy is based on the screen play for an animation of the same name. What the story lacks in depth it provides in fast paced paranormal encounters.

Kukutuk kalian!

I read Paranormal after watching the movie, which I loved in a when-am-I-gonna-stop-cryiny-because-this-movie-connects-with-me-so-much sort of way.

Paranorman is a tale that will speak to the freak in all of us, and thus, I think it's a book every parent should look into getting for their kid. Wonderfully constructed fantasy elements aside, this book explores the world of the bullied and those who do the bullying in a way that really struck me at my core.

I HIGHLY recommend.

A story about about who can see ghosts such as his dead grandma, but no one was believing in him. Someone came to him and asked him to go to the witch as he can see the ghosts, but he ignored him in the beginning. Later on, one the ghost of that man as he died came to him, he said OK I will read that book near to witch and everything will be alright.

Not that interesting story!

After seeing the movie, which I absolutely loved, I had to read the book. I adore books that are fun for all ages and this book is just that. I love the fun style of writing the author uses in describing the paranormal gift, Norman has. You actually feel like you are there as the town is being overrun by ghosts. Would definitely add this to my library.

Paranorman good book about a boy named Norman who can see and talk to the dead. When a 300 year witches curse is true, it is up to him to save the town from an zombie invasion. Will Norman save the day? Or will the town be destroyed by zombies?

** There is also a movie of this book.**

Knowing that books are often better than the movies they're turned into, I gave this a go, despite the cheesy-looking previews I've seen. Happily, the book is pretty decent -- a cute, humorous tale of a boy born with the ability to talk to ghosts, and a family inheritance/curse that could affect the fate of his entire town. Spoiler: it all turns out okay...

This book was very cute and quirky and I just love it. Norman is my hero and the movie is really good too. If you like the Nightmare Before Christmas or the movie 9, I think you will like this book.

Paranorman is a book about a boy named Norman Babcock who is able to see and coverse with the the dead. Norman's ability of course leads to him being outcast and lonely until he becomes friends with chubby Neil who quickly accepts him and together they end up on a wild journey as Norman is destined to...more

I discovered this after having seen--and loved--the movie. The novel, based on the screenplay, added details to the story that were not in the film. It was similar to watching the director's cut of a film. It was a quick, enjoyable read, which was just what I wanted to take with me on vacation.
Elaine Pelton
"'Let me go first, then,' said the tallest, thinnest, baldest ghost Norman had ever seen. 'There's a library book in my office, and I'm just not going to be able to get any eternal rest until someone takes it back.'"
This was absolutely adorable, perfectly paced, full of great quotes, and laugh out loud moments.

This was a fun book! I loved that the main character, Norman, could see ghosts but didn't freak out about it. His acceptance was refreshing and the book overall was funny and original. What I read was the first 7 chapters, a free read on my Kindle. Did it leave me wondering and wanting more? Absolutely. I certainly want to see the movie that this book was based on and I have high expectations for the characters in this book and their future adventures.
Kristin
Very cute and quick read. While it is focused on a little boy who can speak to the dead and needs to save his town from being destroyed by a curse, the story is also about not being a bully....which I think is a great lesson for kids of any age.
Lorelie
I don't usually read movie tie-in novels, but since at least they chose someone in the field, and because so many of my students were really interested in the book I read it. And it was very enjoyable. Good story, well told. Good book!
Sandra
This is one cute book! It is a very different way of addressing childhood issues that most kids face. Such as not fitting in, bullying, parental acceptance, etc. I really liked it and have told several kids about it hoping they will give it a try!
