I always wondered about the mistress/wife relationship in historical England. It does seem that many noblemen kept mistresses and all (even the gay ones) had wives to continue their blood lines, but how much did the wives know about the other woman (women). This story starts out with Lady Leah Sheridan visiting the mistress of her fiance to share the knowledge that he has died in an accident. How did she even know where the other woman lived with the bastard son? How could her father or other fa...more
Dee Julian has written another enjoyable historical romance that took me away for a few days with a great plot and interesting characters. Promise me is witty, entertaining and has a wonderful historical romance.

Leah is a great character, she is a woman who wants to do what is right and she is in a pickle that her fiance has left her in. But she continues to do what is right no matter how it makes her look to the public. When the Duke of Chase, her fiance's older brother enters the picture it ge...more

Nicolas, Duke of Chase, thinks Lady Leah Sheridan might have had something to do with his brother’s death. She is hiding something because of a promise she made to her ex fiance. While he has his suspicions, the attraction between them is undeniable.

Her gaze unexpectedly drifted to his mouth. Would his kiss be gentle? She sucked in a quick breath. Forceful? A delicate quiver traveled through her body down to her toes, and she almost dropped her c...more

I enjoy reading this book, but why minus bed scenes *grin.

overall it's a good story to read :)

Leah's fiancee died in an accident and his brother Nicholas has just come back from an extended trip to find out about the death.

Nicholas starts out thinking the very worst of Leah, and speaking to her about her flaws. Leah defends herself with as good as she receives.

There are many family complications. There is a woman who wants to harm everyone in the story and there is another woman who may or may not harm people in the story.

I think the premise is a good one. But for me there are too many c...more

"Promise Me" by Dee Julian was a well written sweet historical romance read setting from Cambridge, England in 1860's. I felt this read was very interesting, entertaining and a wonderful historical romance that would keep you reading and not being able to put the book down until the very end. How this heroine (Lady Sheridan)and hero (Duke of Chase) seened ti be dukin...more

This book has received some harsh reviews, but for myself, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were fun and entertaining, the pacing was very good and the overall storyline well thought out and executed well. I would recommend it to lovers of historical romance with a touch of fun involved. I would certainly have no problems seeking out other books the author has written.

This book was rather difficult to get through. I was annoyed for half of the book and thought the story line dragged on a bit too much. I ended up skimming through parts of the book and found that in doing so... I didn't miss much. I started liking it more towards the end but then, all of a sudden, it just ended. I would have enjoyed either another chapter or at least an epilogue... just a little something to really give the book closer. Probably won't read it again and am grateful it w...more

I was hooked at the end of Chapter One and stayed that way to the end. I won't give a synopsis since I don't want to ruin the surprise, but the lovely Leah and her duke were fun and well matched. A terrific plot with unique secondary characters kept me turning pages at a rapid speed. I'll be looking for other books regarding this fascinating family!

I enjoyed Dee Julian's other book, MacGregor's Daughter, enough to pick up this title. It also is a sweet romance, and there are similar dark elements in this story, which picks up the MacGregor lineage a few generations later. It's an easy, lighthearted summer read with fun, likable characters.
Not bad for a freebie. This book started off really well, with an interesting storyline & believable characters. The ending was much too tidy, and quite predictable.

Nice simple read with a HEA ending. Some of the period details were inaccurate, but nothing that would disappoint you if you didn't already know... There was a teaser at the end for a prequel / related tale, which I may look up later.
Fun story! Quirky, interesting, clean, well fleshed out characters. The end was a tad anti-climactic but on a whole it was very fun. The mud fight will make me smile for a long while. ;)
Not impressed. The writing style was hardly accomplished.
3.5 stars. A clean, sweet historical romance.
Fun book with an interesting plot!
