When I finished the first book in this series, "Mind Over Monsters", I knew I had found something truly amazing. I wanted to read the next book as soon as possible. Luckily for me it was available for requesting on NetGalley and soon I got it. I was beyond excited to start reading it and two days ago I finally did. And, boy, did I love it!

After a disappointing trip to see her brother, Beatrice is told by Oliver (the lusty vampire) that they have been assigned a mission together. They are to move into the vampire scene, under cover, in Dallas, and find a group of vampires who have been killing people. She isn’t that happy with Oliver, and assumed it is another way to get her alone and make a pass at her. Meanwhile her werewolf crush, Will, is still on vacation.

Again, I have to echo my earlier review of the first book that the cover art does not do them justice. The books are more fun than that. Beatrice Alexander, the teacher turned special (supernatural) agent returns with her F.R.E.A.K. squad team of assorted misfits and monsters for another case. Like the first book in the series (Mind Over Monsters) the reader is treated to some actual police procedural elements along with the supernatural bits and it's not a bad combo. The second book takes a dar...more

Quick & Dirty: Fun, quirky yet serious mystery novel.
Opening Sentence: I think I just officially realized that I’m a true-blue freak.
The Review:
To Catch a Vampire finds Beatrice Alexander (telekinetic extraordinaire) bemoaning her place in F.R.E.A.K.S. It is not that she doesn’t like it, in fact she loves it, it is just the fact that she can’t tell her family and friends what she does for a living. She is also moping because her current crush, Will the wer...more

This was the second novel in a terrific series that I wasn't sure I'd like at first. Having been won over with the first novel, I was excited to pick up the second one. No disappointments for me.
Our telekinetic heroine, Special Agent (FBI) Beatrice Alexander is still torn between her romantic emotions for two of her co-workers. The thing is crime will not wait for her to have her life in order.
The F.R.E.A.K.S. squad is activated when humans go missing and a vampire cabal is likely the transgres...more

I accidentally came across this book while at my library and remembered that I'd enjoyed the first book in the series ... then promptly forgot about it! So I picked book #2 up and saved it for when I needed a semi-humorous story. Today was that day, and I basically stayed home all day to read it (don't you hate it when there is no good stopping point?). Yay! It was fun but with the right amount of suspense and action and seriousness.

This second book of F.R.E.A.K.S. Squad Investigation series has completely satisfied my expectations confirming all things that I had wrote for the first. The cover is still funny but the story is fantastic. Bea is a normal woman but so smart, cute and caring and is amazing how she faces bloody vamps. This time with her there is Oliver, handsome and fascinating vampire and her mate of squad , together must discover the culprits that have kidnaped and kill many persons. The trama is well structure...more

This was an excellently written Urban Fantasy. I absolutely loved the characters. They had depth and humor. Oliver, Will and Bea’s little sorta love triangle was very frustrating, yet I want to continue reading the series to find out who she will end up with. The F.R.E.A.K.S were also a really cool part of this book. It was kinda like Xmen meets Hogwarts meets an Anne Rice book. It’s quite the squad. This book was a fun read. It was more of a comedic take on vampires and that's what I liked about it. We meet Bea who is still adusting to life working with the Freaks. She is also having to deal with the constant advances of her partner Oliver. Oliver is such a cute vampire and so swoon worthy if you are into the type of thing. He is fearlessly protective of Bea too eventhough she can hold her own. I liked that she wasn't...more

Loved this book! I read am reading the series backwards, this one first then I will pick up the first soon.
If you like vampires, werewolves, witches & more supernatural abilities mixed with law enforcement, this series is for you. Beatrice Alexander is coming into her own skin an making her self a name on the team. Although her own blood related family doesn't care for her abilities, the F.R.E.A.K.S. have accepted her as one of their own. When the time comes down to it, Can she choose her ow...more

When I read Harlow’s debut, Mind Over Monsters, I was completely blown away. Suffice it to say, it was a no brainer that I’d be back for round #2. I read To Catch A Vampire almost immediately after I finished the first and devoured it just as quickly. Harlow’s definitely found her niche and set herself apart in the urban fantasy genre with a pairing of clever humour and devilish antics. I feel like she’s really nailed Bea’s voice this time around and grown more confid...more

I wish Jennifer Harlow was one of those prolific writers or wrote faster or I'd found out about her after she had a bunch of books, especially in this series, so I could have a bunch of them on hand.
Maybe by not having so many out there, each one is that much better for it. I adore this series and there are only two, so far, in the F.R.E.A.K.S. Squad Investigation series.

TO CATCH A VAMPIRE is pretty much just Beatrice and Oliver working undercover together as a married couple. My only problem with the book? I really loved Will and now I really love Oliver. I have no idea who to root for anymore. I'm not really crazy about the covers for this series but I'm glad I picked up book 1 despite it and book 2 was just as good.

Really great second book in the F.R.E.A.K.S. series. Bea, an ordinary woman with paranormal abilities, makes extraordinary decisions when fighting the supernatural baddies. The book is nonstop action and suspense, while still being humorous (great S&M club scene!). Despite the suffering and gore, Jennifer Harlow imbues her characters with so much heart...and a large pair of cojones for Bea. Can't wait for the next book.
I'm very glad I looked past the somewhat odd titles and the kitsch cover art of these books, because they are a lot of fun! To Catch a Vampire has great characters and a fantastic plot, although it's hard to call it a mystery because it's pretty clear from the start who they are after. I enjoyed seeing the deeper interplay between Bea and Oliver that was only hinted at in the first book. I'm still cheering for Will, but I'm enjoying the flirtation with Oliver.

I loved every freaking page! Except the frequent use of the phrase b-word. Exactly as written. It was cute the first 3 times. Then it was just stupid. But that is the only bad thing I have to say about this book. I am more a sci-fi/fantasy geek. Romance is not usually my thing. This book had so much action and minimal romance that I don't think it's fair to categorize it as such. I love how normal the main character is with her cellulite and insecurities. Of course, she is desired by the main st...more

It was an engrossing read. Bea and Oliver are cute together. The misdirect at the farm scene was neat, but kinda sad.
Can't wait for another book in the series.

This book was great! I loved Bea’s no-back-down attitude, but it was never to the point of being absurd. She has a gift that really does allow her to help in unusual and often terrible situations. Jennifer Harlow makes Bea’s telekinesis believable and Bea’s narrative throughout her strange situations is humorous, perceptive, and a little crass and unpleasant all rolled into one. All this adds to the greatest of the story and the character development. (view spoiler)...more

Jennifer Harlow spent her restless childhood fighting with her three brothers and scaring the heck out of herself with horror movies and books. She grew up to earn a degree at the University of Virginia which she put to use as a radio DJ, crisis hotline volunteer, bookseller, lab assistant, wedding coordinator, and government investigator. Currently she calls Northern Virgina home but that restles...more
