Okay so I don't review books often but let me tell you a story of how bored I was last week. I was in a book slump surfing Amazon for something new to mix it up to because I have all these books in my to-read list that for some reason, I haven't been in the mood to get started on. I get bored easily and I am totally ADD but I read the excerpt to Tara Brown's Born book and I had to have me some.....Love LOVED both books she's put out in the trilogy so far and devoured the disgustingly wonderful d...more

Aimee and Alise are twin sisters, but they are nothing alike. Where Alise is trendy and popular and stunningly beautiful, Aimee is quiet and bookish and unconcerned with her looks. The story follows Aimee after the death of their mother in a horrible accident (details aren't revealed until the end). She is having a difficult time dealing with life - she thinks that by enjoying life, she would be dishonoring the memory of her mother. So one night, she decides to accompany her popular sis...more

I got this book free on Amazon and really wanted to like it. When I first started reading, I was enjoying it. After putting it down for the night, though, I started to actually think about it and subsequently couldn't read it the same way. I should say, although I discuss the negative more below, the book isn't horrible or anything and some of the problems I had may have been because at some point I sort of started skimming portions. I'm undecided if I will read the next book, but I'm not entire...more
So many mixed emotions came with this book. I know I feel sympathetic towards Aimee for one having a slut as a sister (yep that's what I said slut) and two the emotions and situations she goes through can be well...rough. Cursed had me hook from page 1. It's intense and an awesome ride as you see things through Aimee's eyes. You'll meet her twin sister Alise, who is her total opposite, her BFF/fellow Guildie Blake, her crush since grade 2 Shane and Aleks, a handsome stranger who seems to show up out of the blue.
You'll feel Aimee's heartache, her butterflies, her pain and her love. A lot has happened to her and her family this past year and you as the reader will see things through her eyes and experience things...more

"Cursed, Book One of the Devil's Roses" is one of the most unique reads I've read in a while. The book hooked me from the Prologue when the main character is hunting down her prey and stumbles upon someone from her past. After quickly leaving the scene, she begins to remember her former life.
High School senior Aimee James is the stable good girl twin while her sister Alise is the party boy crazed one. Alise is dating Shane, the boy, Aimee has been crushing on for a long time. What kind of pers...more

This isn't my favorite by Tara but it wasn't horrible by any means. While I found some of the plot unique and complicated I also felt that there wasnt enough focus on those parts and too much on unoriginal parts. That being said, I really did love it!
The prologue was great! It gave us a small glimpse of what is to come...

This book is about a high school senior that is dealing with a tragedy in her family. To make things worse, she’s always being overshadowed by her prettier, preppie twin sister. Aimee James is just an uber nerd that loves the chess club, and has never been kissed. Her world gets turned upside down when she goes to her first party, and almost dies because of it. Upon recovery, she faces tough decisions, tough losses, and through it all finds the man she will love for the rest of her life (however...more
I'm somewhat enjoying the book. Really should have found someone to proof it for you. My services are available and complimentary. What kind of rubbed me the wrong way was the 'Asian' reference on page 198. I find myself wanting to proof this for you and keep people from missing such a good book. And give us back our prologue!
I really enjoyed reading Cursed and am excited to be continuing with the next book in the series.
Aimee's family has been struck by tragedy. Her mother died unexpectedly eight months ago. Since then Aimee has becomea shell of the person that she used to be. Her wardrobe consists of blacks and greys. Her best friend is a fellow nerd named Blake and she feels like she's living in her vibrant twin sister Alyce's shadow.

Yep. Tara Brown rocks. Here are the reasons:
1. Action starts immediately. You aren't waiting for several chapters before you know whether you will like this book or not; you will know on the first page. You'll be hooked by the 5th.
2. Character development is natural and believable. Aimee is a character that every reader can relate to in some way, and you will begin to feel what she feels and love it. Even the scary as hell stuff.
3. The men. Just...hng, the men.
4. Since I have finished the series...more

We start off with a teen high school story with Aimee, who is love with Shane but he's dating her twin sister Alise. Then there is Blake, Aimee's best friend who is in love with Alise. I was hooked as I began reading, the two girls have recently lost their mother and are trying to cope in their different ways. Aimee has become cut off and quiet, whereas her sister is partying and humping anything moving. When the plot started to "thicken" so to speak I was hooked even more. We are taken through...more
'Cursed' is book one of 'The Devil's Roses' series. This book is YA and good for any age in my opinion. I liked reading this book due to the story line, which was well written. It is the first book I've read that involves the dark angels. Cursed will take you through an 18 year old's life as a senior in high school that had dealt with her mother's death, being drugged at a party that will end up changing her life, finding true love, falling in love with a gorgeous man whom she can never have to...more
I loved this book and I love Tara's writing.Amiee is struggling with moving on from her moms death. Amiee and her twin sister Alise don't get a long much. Amiee is between two guys that she loves. I love how Amiee went through all these emotions and learned alot about herself and the people around her. Through the whole book I was trying to figure out who the date rap guy was. I loved that I was wrong on a number of different guys. There were parts in this book that were sad and made me cry. Bla...more
I wanted to like this book but by the end I just didn't. I didn't like how flighty Aimee was, nor did I like what a shallow character Alise was. Moments of this book were very unoriginal. Everybody except Shane and the Dad were pretty much awful people/characters. Shane was the best thing about this book. He was a great romantic lead; he really needed to be surrounded by better more developed characters. The plot was also pretty dull olin parts. It could have been great minus a little she is sic...more
I just started to read books by Tara Brown and I am in love with her books. :) I have always been a big paranormal romance book junkie and first thing that grasp me in any genres are the covers of the books. When I started to read the book, I loved how the author knew how to get you attached to the book right from the beginning. And she kept you wanting more but also gave you a little so you were not lacking with what was going on. Cursed has parts of what most people can relate to when dealing...more
I loved this book!!! I have read all of Tara Brown's new books, so starting The Devils Roses I kind of went backwards lol but it was just as good I thought. Amiee's character was amazing. She is a nerd and only has one friend and plays World of Warcraft!! That is my game :) so we kind of bonded. I was alittle disaponted when she finally came out of her shell, but only because it isn't like her to be stuck in the middle of a love triangle. Shane is every girls dream and Amiee breaks his heart. As...more
Decent book. I read it over a few days. decent character development. The begging gives you a peak at the paranormal in the story then jumps to the past leaving most of the paranormal out. For most of the book it is more a teenage drama with a mystery, love triangle, family issues and emotional struggle of the main character. This story is Jane Austin, meets Shakespeare, with a touch of Twilight. I do not know if I will read the next in the series. It was a quick read and wanted to keep reading...more
A very pleasent surprise. A really good example of a paranormal romance, very compelling reading. Its varied and colourful characters bring the story to life, with the modern style writing makes it quite different and sets it apart. I'm very excited to continue the series, I love how the present left you guessing for the past, and how the author gave it to the reader in such a clever way...I oftern find the jump quite abrupt, but this was utterly seamless. I really enjoyed it, highly reccomend i...more
I'd like to give this a higher rating. The story was interesting and although the female character was TSTL she was interesting. The constant going back and forth in the love triangle was ridiculous. However, the biggest problem with the book was the poor editing, both content and mechanics. There were so many errors that there was not a single page that did not have multiple problems with tense, word choice, comma use, and spelling errors. As a result I would not read another book by this autho...more

It was a pretty good read. I loved the characters and i loved the romance between Aimee and Shane. The part with Alex confused me as it made no sense. I could not feel the love connection and Aimee's indecision about who she loves was just ridiculous. I'm still confused about what happened with Dorian and Aimee. That whole changing thing was a little far fetched. The ending of the book brought it back for me. The story intrigued me and made sense again.

I will be starting book 2 soon! I can't wait to see where Aimee and the love triangle goes. Shane or Alex. I think my vote is for Shane! Loved every character...even her crazy sister. The family values, the friends, everything was great! And just think there are 5 books in this series. Looking forward to seeing where this all goes....oh the possibilities!!!
A story which had great potential, but a certain section within the story line is missing, leaving us wondering how that event happened. This missing section is the only problem I have along with a few typo's, but generally a good story. Young adultish in its contents although slightly more bearing to late teens with the language being used.
I LOVED Cursed!! It was unique, intense, hot, heartbreaking...It pulled you right in with the prologue!! Nothing is revealed to you upfront and it keeps you hooked wanting to know what is going on and what will happen next I have not looked yet to see if Bane is available but I so hope it is!! I need to know what is going on with the Roses!!
This was my first published book. It has received the most criticism out of all of my hordes of novels because it was my learning novel. I have taken all of your criticisms to heart and rewritten the novel. Some things will not be fixed as they are essential to the series. Some are fixed, okay a LOT are fixed. Some I am keeping regardless, I like them.
