A new-to-me-author who was highly recommended by a friend. This is the first book in "The Remembrance" trilogy. An absolutely breathtaking and unforgettable love story. I couldn't stop reading from the time I started until I finished a few minutes ago. And wouldn't you know it, I can't get the second book until who knows when. And then there's a third book, too. Warning: there's a huge cliffhanger at the end and I know this bothers lots of readers. For me, this book was magical and no matter whe...more
I tried to love this book, I really did. I wanted to, but... there was just too much standing in my way.
I 'stealth' read this the other night and didn't post updates because I wasn't in love with it.
On the surface, it's actually a sweet story of friends who wished they were more but never found the courage to do anything about it. But what that led to just frustrated me to no end.
I guess it was because all the problems in this book stemmed from the direct actions of hero/heroine. There were n...more

This book was not for me whatsoever. Maybe I set myself up to dislike the book as much as I did since I am not a romance-reading kind of person. I only discovered this book because it was on a recommendation list for people who liked Fifty Shades of Grey. I haven't read it, and I have heard horrible things about it, but The Future of Our Past had so many good reviews on here, I figured I'd give it a shot. I don't mind reading a story that has romance, but usually there...more

First off LOVE the names of the main characters and that bracelet, where do i find one of those??? ;)
I'm not a romance hater, I love the idea of love. Makes me feel all mushy and softy inside. But even though Ryan and Julia had so much distance between them we only saw the coupling after all the wait. Had there been more about how they were coping and maybe thrown in more people like Liza and Vincent to make them sway from the relationship a lil I think I would have totally been on board with al...more

WOW.... I'm shaking..... Incredible Love Story
You are captivated by the love these two charactures have for each other. I could not put this book down. The love this man Ryan has for Julia and her for him is consuming whole heart, body & soul. Their struggle to share their life together and yet still follow their personal dreams. Their so close to having it all and then........... (sorry you gotta read this book!)

I really wanted to like this story. With all the 5 star ratings I went in with high expectations. This book unfortunetly didn't do it for me. I found the characters very unrealistic and hard to relate with. I couldn't feel their connection at all. I wish we got to know their back story more in depth. I didn't like how there was no back bone to their sotry. I get that there is sexual tension between best friends, but as a reader I want to be able to understand and feel their connection, and what...more
Where do i start....
The relationship between Ryan and Julia was magical and you were brought into it when reading the book. I loved the book being written from both points of view as it was special seeing how they both felt about each other. It's difficult to put into words how many emotions this book put me through ( all good i promise ) i felt love, confusion, heartbreak, it had me in tears at the end and shouting at my kindle in others. All these things are what i look for in fantastic book....more

I am going crazy after reading this book. It was truly amazing! I just finished about five minutes ago and I'm frantic because I have to know what happens next. I started this book four hours ago and couldn't put it down. I was suppose to be doing my graduate school homework for my vicious Quantitative Methods class (it was such a hard decision to make...yeah, right). Instead, I found myself engrossed in Julia and Ryan's love story!!

Julia & Ryan are best friends and have been inseparable since the moment they met years ago. But, as Ryan finds himself accepted to Harvard Medical School, the two friends not only have to face being separated by thousands of miles, but they also have to finally come come to terms with the fact that what they feel for each other goes way beyond friendship.

This is the first book in The Remembrance Trilogy and I am knew to reading author Kahlen Aymes. Fatima had recommended this book to me and I am glad that she did :)

I really wanted to like this book. It was FREE on Amazon and had high ratings. I wasn't expecting much because it was free but the description sounded like a book I would LOVE and it started off really good.

~Julia, I love you because… The first time our eyes met, I was lost.
You’re my very best friend, and you know me better than I know myself.
Your smile lights up my life.
You complete my thoughts and my words…like we are the same person.
You know when I’m hurting and exactly how to comfort me.
Your touch melts me, like no other ever could~

Kahlen Aymes'"The Future of Our Past" is a page turner I couldn't put down. Julia and Ryan are hopelessly in love and struggle with what many young people face as they are growing their careers and their relationship. Their relationship is founded on deep friendship and respect and develops into one of the hottest, steamiest and passionate love stories that I have ever read. Aymes' ability to describe her characters, their lives and relationships, is spot on, and made a believer out of me. This...more
Julia and Ryan have been in love with each other for as long as they can remember but neither of them has acted on their feelings. Instead both of them have had relationships with other people trying to avoid destroying their friendship if they took things further. They are graduating college and hate to think about not being in each other lives so they do the one thing they have been trying to avoid; they open their hearts to each other and see where it leads them. The long distance relationshi...more
A few quotes that pretty much convinced me I'd never get to the end of this Cheesefest of bad writing, at just 3 percent into the book.
"Fall had left the trees barren of their lush leaves, reminding me of what my life would become if I went to Boston; a blank page, without the colors that Julia painted on my life. It seemed so bleak, a wasteland."
"They were all laughing and bantering with each other. My eyes flew to Julia. Her face was pink from the cold, her eyes were sparkling and laughter was...more

The Future of Our Past....could of been a very good book. The story was there but it was how it was delivered that made it lose it's strength. The author is definately a gifted writer. She has a good story, her writing skills were good, and word usage was good.
What made this book sink was the repetitiveness in it. This book kept repeating everything. I got so frustrated that I would skip pages (which I never do) and find I was reading the same exact thing again only in different words. The repea...more

The Future of Our Past by Kahlen Aymes is, in a nutshell, the story of two best friends, Ryan and Julia, and their struggle to start and then keep a romantic relationship despite their different paths in life. It’s a feel good romance with enough amazing words and actions from Ryan to make any girl swoon. This guy is, period, the hopeless romantic we all want to have. The way he adores Julia – ahhh…don’t we all wish we could be adored like that? She of course loves him back just as fiercely – wh...more
This book aggravates the crap out if me. The outline of this story is really good. But honestly the execution leaves me not really that involved with the characters other than wanting to push through to the end of the book. When we finally get to the climax I'm not even that invested in the characters. That final what should be a gut wrenching trauma that I cried about just made me go "oh..."

I stumbled across this book my Kindle one night and after reading the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy I was looking for something to take my mind off it. And this book definitely did just that. I feel in love with Ryan and Julia from the beginning and wanted to see their relationship evolve into what they both wanted in each other. They bring out both the best and the worst in each other. I purchased the second book before I even finished this book, and was disappointed when I realized the third one i...more
This was an amazing book. I do not know if my review will even do justice to how much I loved this book. To have a love like the characters in this book, Julia and Ryan is something everyone dreams. Everyone wants love and acceptance, even if there is a struggle to achieve that goal.

The last lines of the publisher’s blurb define this story as “a love so transcending, that even if the mind can’t remember, it’s impossible for the heart to forget” and this is exactly how I feel about this book. It’s Ah-mazing with a capital A. Kahlen Aymes wrote an unforgettable novel, that I can’t stop thinking about, truly.

Ryan and Julia are best friends who secretly love each other. But it isn’t until they graduate college and are threatened with the separation of thousands of miles that they share their feelings with one another. And so their angst-ridden long distance romance begins. The Future of Our Past is the story of young love, intense, all-consuming I’ll-die-if-I-ican’t-be-with-you love. (In that respect, it reminded me a bit of Endless Love, the movie starring Brooke Shields).

I am a sucker for a mushy book about secret admirers, unrequited love, or the tragic Romeo & Juliet type romance. The Future of Our Past seemed to fit the bill in what I look for in a casual romance.
Julia and Ryan are long time best friends who have secretly held feelings fore each other for a long while now. Each are afraid of compromising their friendship and try to bury these feelings all through under graduate college.

We get the story of two best friends who have secretly loved each other for so long while being too afraid to act on it.
I think that the intimacy of this book was on a whole other level than most books out there. I'm not just talking about the love scenes (which are more in depth than most romances, so warning), I'm talking about the emotional intimacy that these two characters shared for each other. It was undeniable and you could imagine being one of their friends and being so incredibly uncom...more

On first thought, I wished there was more back story to this couple. I understand that they have been best friends with sexual tension, secretly in love with each other, but I wanted to know more. I love romance books, but halfway through the book I was almost nauseated from all the "I love you so much." So much to the point that I was getting bored. I thought they had some cute banter between the two of them but it was more mushy mushy I love yous more than anything. I don't like when character...more
