This was a cute, sexy little contemporary about a pretty, upscale young woman (Beth Ann) from a small town, prominent family and a guy from the wrong side of the tracks (Colt). They'd known each other since high school but never hung with the same crowd or really cared for each other. She was the pretty, popular student with the star athlete boyfriend; he was the social outcast who couldn't wait to leave town and his dispeputable family behind. Colt ends up coming back to town after serving in t...more

Dang! This book looks like a fun read but it's too EXPENSIVE. Guess I'll wait until Penguin lowers the price.
Michelle [Helen Geek]
Another book Penguin wants us to purchase for the bargain price of $10? Does anyone know who this author is? Seriously? I don't care how good, no
"new to me" author should be charging such a price for their books. Seriously...whacked.

Jessica Clare had out done herself with this second installment of the Bluebonnet Series. It had exceeded all my expectations and I can say that it is even better than the first. I cannot tell you how much I loved this book.

Because I loved this book, I feel like I will ramble on with my review so I wanted to keep it to the minimum and answer the questions I usually ask my friends about a book, here goes.

Tell me about the plot:

Beth Ann is DONE with her cheating, whiny fiancé. But her small town of Bluebonnet has seen this happen before and because Beth Ann didn’t tell everyone the truth about Allan and his cheating ways, they’re all convinced that Beth Ann will forgive him once again, they’ll reconcile and all will be right with the town’s golden couple. But Beth Ann is having none of that. She’s building up her own business and sink or swim she’s going to do it all on her own....more

2nd in the series. I liked this even better than the first, which I also enjoyed quite a bit, and as always, I love her voice and characters. Super hot, as I expect from Jill, but this also had a really lovely, slow-building tension in the relationship, when you just know things are going to go bad when a certain secret is revealed ... but it never devolves into crazy misunderstandings, which I appreciate so, so much (and was kind of afraid might happen).

It's always kind of funny talking about...more

Beth Ann Williamson has had enough of her cheating, long time boyfriend Allen. She’s also had enough of being the perfect girlfriend, perfect daughter, perfect everything, it’s time she figured out what she wants to do with her life. After finally breaking off her relationship she finishes beauty school and opens a salon in her small hometown of Bluebonnet, Texas. Keeping the actual reasons for why she ended her longtime relatio...more

The Care and Feeding of an Alpha was a sweet book. The H/h had started off hating each other for their own reasons, but after being stranded (not really;)) Colt and Beth Ann started a hot steamy relationship. I felt for Beth Ann she had Asshole of an EX, and a demanding to be perfect family. I did like that Beth Ann didn't care what the people of Bluebonnet thought of her anymore, she wanted to be her own person. Colt realized almost right a way during their weekend in the woods that he misjudge...more

“Do I have any choice? It’s either that or
let Lucy get impregnated by the Colossus,
right?”

This was a quick read with hot, steamy sex. The hero's revenge in the beginning was comical, and he quickly redeemed himself. The heroine's down-to-earth-ness and her desire to do things unexpected helped make her likable.

Overall, the plot seemed normal romance-in-a-small-town fluff, and instances of heavy or more in-depth situations/conflicts with the main characters fell short either...more

Beth Ann Williamson has finally broke it off with her high school sweetheart, after years of him cheating on her. She realizes all the expensive gifts he gave her will never make up for the fact that he is never going to change, and she needs to move on. To her frustration, the small town of Bluebonnet, Texas don’t want her to give him up. Daily questions asking her why and when she will take him back, just make Beth Ann want to hide. Worse, she has moved back into her parent’s house until she c...more

Beth Ann was with her boyfriend for 9 years but during that time he cheated on her multiple times. She would break up with him, he would woo her back and then he’d eventually do it again. Why she stayed with him for 9 freaking years was beyond me. She finally got the balls to break up for good 10 months earlier. She’s started her own beauty salon in the town of Bluebonnet but no one knows why she broke up with Allan. The townspeople are constantly asking her when she’s going to marry that nice b...more

I absolutely loved this book. This one is my favorite of the series so far. I am a huge fan of Jill Miles a/k/a Jessica Clare's writing. Jill's Succubus Diaries series is one of my all time favories. Jill really knows how to make a hot and sexy alpha male and a romance that is not only sexy but laugh out loud funny. The Care and Feeding of an Alpha Male (love that title) was no exception. One of the things I noticed about this book compared to her other stories is there is a HUGE amount of sex i...more

Have you ever realized you weren’t being YOU or you don’t know who YOU are anymore? Well Beth Ann Williamson has and has absolutely had it being who others want her to be, being loyal to her boyfriend of nine years regardless of how many times he has cheated on her. She has started on her own path to independence and is not going to let anyone stop her, including her ex and her parents.

The Care and Feeding of an Alpha Male, Bluebonnet #2, by Jessica Clare
Grade: B-

“Just because I am female does not mean I need you to swoop in and be a hero. Sometimes we can save ourselves, you know.”

Colt Waggoner left Bluebonnet, Texas nine years ago and never looked back. Colt tried for years to shake the stigma of being a “white trash Waggoner” his entire life but now that he’s back he can’t seem to get the town to realize he’s changed. When he goes out to help evacuate a festival that go rai...more

THE CARE AND FEEDING OF AN ALPHA MALE is a deliciously hot read! Clare knows just how to build up the sexual tension and just when it hits its fevering point, she sets the pages blazing! The unique blend of sweet small-town romance and scorching hot sex scenes will have readers swarming to get their hands on this book.

With lots of drama, a touch of charm and plenty of hotter- than-hell sex, Jessica Clare has created a book that I could not put down. She is an author that readers need to keep an...more

Or so they all thought. Allan didn’t help things, either. I have for a long time been a fan of Marines and Cowboys but oh my word ! This author took everything I love about reading and combined it all into one.

We have the small town, the here and there characters (that you can so tell will get their own books) a sexy cowboy kind that use to be one hot Marine. The sex scenes were smoking hot ! I could stop reading ..seriously ladies I had to force myself to stop just rest the eyes a bit.

Fabulous read and I look forward to more !

I think I'm starting to become a fan of Jessica Clare's writing. I mean, it's not a huge, over the top book that's pushing to get noticed and impress, but rather, I see her novels as something that makes for a feel-good, easy read. The stories are light, bordering on cheese, sexiness and romance. So far, I can't help but adore the characters, be it the main couple or the minor characters (who would have stories of their own in other books).

Plus, I don't know who started the trend of having love...more

The hero was a great well developed character before we even get to the book. I liked that the book was not about him growing up (I am getting tired of this). I thought the development of the heroine (Beth Ann) was well thought out. I really liked that Clare allowed time to elapse in the book. You don't read about all the time passing, but get a character statement here or there along the lines of "I know it's been a month but...". I also like that the H/h didn't just "get back together".

So why...more

The Care and Feeding of an Alpha Male is the second book in Jessica Clare's Bluebonnet series. The series revolves around three high school buddies who have gotten together several years after graduating to start their own business teaching survival training, in their home town of Bluebonnet Texas. The first book, The Girls Guide to (Man)Hunting, was Dane's story. In this book we learn more about Colt Waggoner. The second of the trio.

Colt has always hated his small home town. After all he was al...more

This was the second book that I've read from Jessica Clare and I loved it. It was just so good and I couldn't put it down. I loved the relationship between Cold and Beth Ann. Not only did these love each other but they brought out the best in one another. I love that we were able to watch their relationship progress from two people that couldn't stand each other to a couple that doesn't feel complete without the other. Both Colt and Beth Ann g...more

An engaging small town romance with a fun, enemies to lovers trope.

Beth Ann is beauty salon owner who is from a very wealthy family, her father is a senator who is up for reelection soon so Beth Ann is desperate to escape the confines of home and spends most nights at her salon sleeping on a mattress.

Allen is her ex-boyfriend who she has dated on and off since high school and for a year it has been off, yet everyone in town loves him and believe she will come to her senses and will soon marry hi...more

My Review:
When I read the first book in this series, I wondered if I loved it so much because I was out camping at the time (that book is all about the survival school the three guys start in Bluebonnet), but I can easily say now that I just truly like this series.

Colt is the hero of the story. His family was always at the bottom of the social chain in Bluebonnet. Even though he left, joined the military, and made something of himself, his family is still the same and the people of Bluebonnet h...more

I've never read a book by this author, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I went in wanting a quick enjoyable read, and that was what I got. I haven't read book one in the series, but that was also due to me not having book one. This book sounded more interesting to me anyway. The beginning was funny, with Beth Ann stranded at the QuestMasters campground trying to keep her sister Lucy from being impregnated by her boyfriend Colossus. She is "rescued" by Colt, whom she doesn't like for some rea...more

I really enjoyed this book. First off, I must say that I did not read the first book in this series because I didn't know there was one. This book can be read as a stand alone, I had absolutely no problems following the story. In the beginning, I wasn't sure I was going to like the lead heroine Beth Ann, she had a moment where she acted like a snotty bitch and I thought, oh boy here we go with another annoying lead female. I was wrong. Beth Ann did have her moment of bitchiness, but she quickly...more

I absolutely enjoyed the first half of the book, especially the beginning. What started out to be a simple petty revenge brought out an unexpected scorching hot relationship. I enjoyed reading Colt's POV, his reasons for lying to Beth Ann about the river, albeit childish, was believable. Guys, in reality do these things. haha. I love Beth Ann, although I'm not a huge fan of that name. I enjoyed how she proved to Colt that she's not the pampered princess that he perceives her to be. That w...more

I have such a girl crush on all things Jessica Clare and Jill Myles, so when the second Bluebonnet book showed up in my mailbox, I think I squeed.

Beth Ann is the local town princess, she comes from money, was the popular girl in high school, and dated the town “hero.” However, the way the town sees her, and the way she sees herself are very different. She doesn’t want to marry her cheating high school sweetheart, and she want...more
