Written a good while after the German Nibelungenlied, the Volsunga Saga is a prose retelling of the Eddic Heroic poems and passages borrowed from the Thidrekssaga af Bern. While this edition is not as scholarly as R G Finch's text and translation, it's still worth picking up for the Norna-Gests þáttr version of the Volsung legend. Anderson also gives a short summary of the little known Niflunga Saga and an essay comparing the Volsunga saga with the older Niflunga Saga and the Nibelungenlied, als ...more
