I have always found the Jack the Ripper case to be extremely interesting and intriguing so I was excited to win this book. It was a great read, really fast paced. Also, although the lead character is a female doctor in nineteenth century England, her character seems believable and the circumstances seem believable. I love the characters in this book. Very quickly I wanted to see how they developed as they renewed their relationships. I became so interested in the characters that I was nervous about the Ripper murders starting because I thought it might take away from their development. Instead, the murders were more like a small plot device to move along the story and bring it to a conclusion. Pretty much paint by numbers here; I kept reading only due to the main character...she was the only thing interesting going on here in this rather hackneyed Jack the Ripper rip--off. still in all, I did finish the book which is a shame because the ending was rather predictable and uninspiring. I'm liberal thus 3 stars.
