Really great book! Good for light reading or a simple romance read to fill the time. One thing I love about this series is that we get to catch up with the past couples and of course the interaction between friends/family. The Gansett series really reminds me of the virgin river and eternity springs series but that's not a bad thing. In this book, we have Grace & Ethan. Grace was a pretty easygoing character with a great since of humor. While Ethan was very hesitant he eventually got over th...more
Another hit with the McCarthy’s of Gansett Island. This is one of the best series out there!
There was a lot of drama going on in this one that is only going to get wilder and ridiculously funny to read about. I feel there were more ‘mega’ plots going on in HOPING FOR LOVE than just Evan and Grace’s story. Owen and Laura got a lot closer and their story is set up for the next book. Tiffany and her marriage problems plus her attraction for the new sheriff Blaine Taylor is a story line not to be mi...more

This series has just gotten better and better for me. It sort of reminds me of Robyn Carr's Virgin River series in that even though it has a main love story there are many other side love connections revealed throughout the book that add excitement, as well as, all the characters from the previous books appear…not just token appearances either. What is great about that is they might be living their HEA from the stories already told, but they still have trials to overcome, sort of soap ope...more

The fifth book in THE McCARTHYS OF GANSETT ISLAND series, HOPING FOR LOVE reminds me why I’m so enamored with Marie Force’s books. Despite the emotional ups and downs I had with previous books (I loved some, liked others, and disliked one), HOPING FOR LOVE is, by far, my favorite for various reasons.
Grace Ryan is curvaceous and sexy but she wasn’t always like that. Growing up, she had the nickname, “The Whale,” and was teased and ostracized from her peers. Without a solid support group from frie...more

A compelling tale about a woman who is highly educated--she's a pharmacist--and a woman who has had the courage to address her own needs and re-invent herself as she sees fit and not as her negative and sometimes destructive family sees fit. She encounters a man, a McCarthy brother, who has come upon hard times emotionally and professionally and whose own hurts and life upsets are a challenge for him to move on. The relationship that grows between Grace and this fascinating young man is powerful...more
An, the McCarthy boys ooooo laaaa laaaa. I want to be on their island.
I love how all our favourite characters are there and we get to catch up with them. The two main stories are about Evan McCarthy and Grace and Laura and Owen.
Evan and Owen always thought they wanted a life with no commitments, able to pick up and go where their music took them. That is until they meet Grace and Laura.
Evan, a confirmed bachelor who decides that he wants to join the latest club on the island as he falls for the...more

I was surprised Evan was next I would have thought Laura and Owen. Evan is a conformed bachelor and loving it. He is waiting for his CD to come out in the winter and loving being near his family. Grace was the Fat Girl and has finally lost the weight thanks to lap-band surgery and is finally trying to live her life. She is left stranded on the island Labor Day weekend with no hotels available. Evan sees her she sees she needs help and does what his father taught him and helped the woman in need....more
Grace Ryan finally has the body she wants. After years as an overweight teenager and adult she had lap band surgery. Now over a hundred pounds lighter she is finally where she wants to be at least she thinks so. Grace always had a crush on the star athlete at her school and now they’re dating. She can hardly believe it. Thankfully she learns the truth behind Trey’s interest in her before she gives him her innocence. Unfortunately, the jerk leaves her stranded on Gansett Island with no money. Wit...more
New to me author. I was fortunate to win this book through Elisabeth Naughton's blog party (for Enraptured), and having started it I am glad I did. Generally this type of book would not have garnered my attention, I would have passed it.
When I heard that I won this book I immediately went to Amazon to read the blurb. The description of the heroine alone convinced me that I would probably like it, that Grace was the type of heroine that I could relate and connect with.

What can I say that I haven't said already about the McCarthys? I love them. Oh, no, I said that about the first four books. But, I do. I really love them. I wrote on one of Marie's blogs, "My life will not be complete until all the McCarthys are married off with tons of babies for Linda to cuddle." And it's true.
Evan is my new favorite, and I suspect Owen will be my fave in June. :-) Each time I read about Gansett's famous family, I can't help but feel more part of the family myself. By now, if...more

**Hoping for Love is book #5 in The McCarthys of Gansett Island Series. While it is not necessary to read these books in order, the characters follow each other from one book to the next.**

I really enjoyed this book! It was amazing, a great romance
book. Marie Force is a great writer and the plot line was
believable. It’s just so good that we get to catch up with
the other characters of the previous books and see how
they’re doing.

So... after reading 'Falling For Love' I was in this extremely happy place waiting to read Evan's story. The plot looked interesting and I wanted to know more about the singer in the family BUT I just didn't feel the connection I've felt with previous couples with Evan and Grace. I liked the relationship more than Luke and Sydney's (which I've already said, took me a long time to like) but still, I felt something was missing.
Apart from that, I missed the way Marie wrote the other character...more

Grace Ryan is 130lbs lighter thanks to Lap Band surgery, but still feels like the Whale she was in high school and her early adult life. Evan McCarthy is a confirmed bachelor and likes it that way. Evan is busy trying to make is dream of being a singer come true. Evan is home for his sister's wedding and taking time off while he waits for his first CD to release around Christmas and go out on tour with the King and Queen of country music. When Ev...more

Oh how I love being back on Gansett Island with all my old friends, and some new ones as well. I might even say that Hoping for Love, the fifth book in the series, might just be my favorite so far, but I know there are more to come, so I wont make any promises.
In Hoping for Love, baby brother, Evan McCarthy, gets a small taste of what it might be like to fall for the perfect woman and he does not take it so well. More like he is fighting it with every fibe...more

Okay na sana, 5 stars na sana eh. Kaya lang yung ending kasi eh. English translation: The ending sucks. Hahaha. I was willing to give it a rating of 5, really. Until the ending that is. I don't know. The ending and epilogue were good... But do you know the feeling that when an ending is great (the one that will leave you speechless), you don't want to change a thing about it. You love it just the way it is. That's a great ending. And if it's a great book, you don't want to change a thing about...more
I picked up this when Marie Force discounted the Gansett Island novels recently. And I am glad I did. This book is Marie Force at her best.
Gansett Island... It felt so real. I loved how Marie Force described the upside and downsides of living on an island, with a quaint town, although not all of the buildings are old.
I loved the friendliness the Islanders showed towards strangers, although at sometimes it felt like they were almost gullible.
But what I enjoyed the most was the characters. I loved...more

While this book is my least favorite of books 1-7, I did enjoy reading it (it's still a Gansett book, and I find myself utterly hooked on the series in a get-the-popcorn kind of way). I'm generally not keen on stories featuring men who are opposed to love from the get go... It's difficult for me to care about their magical transformation from bratty boys who want to screw everything in a skirt to men who recognize the individuality and value of women in general (and one woman in particular). Sad...more
Marie Force has done it again - she has written another wonderful book!
I loved Evans and Grace's story. I would go as far as saying this is my favourite book in the series so far.
Many people have compared this series with Robyn Carr's Virgin River series which I am a huge fan of and I have to say this series is just as good, if not better because we are able to follow the lives of the other members of the McCarthy family whom we have all fallen in love with. I started with this series last summer and have enjoyed it thus far. This is definitely a series book, and I would not recommend it without reading the other books in the series, starting with "Maid for Love". While the story centers around the main character, Grace and Evan, the cast of characters from previous books show up. This series is hard to describe. It isn't "edgy", nor is it one of the best that I have ever read. But there is something entertaining, and welcoming about this series. I...more
Another great read from Marie Force.
We are back on Gansett Island Labor Day weekend. Grace is docked at the marina with her date - things go wrong and he sails away with all her stuff while she takes a walk. Evan McCarthy spots her in the Tiki Bar in the corner crying - during a break in the set he is playing with Owen he checks on her. Because he was raised by the WWBMD (What Would Big Mac Do) he takes her home to Mom to stay in Jaynie's room.

Not a bad book. But for the length there alot to take in with other characters- especially so if you dive in, not reading it in order. The saviour is that these characters you like them- from his parents, his brother and other friends on the island. Except i felt that only 60% of the book is really about the H&H. I like the bubbly personality of Grace and feel for her that the world is vain and you cant feel attractive if you are fat. I didnt really like Evan. And their romance was the sort...more
This had way too much going on. A side romance with Mom and Dad McCarthy. Laura and Owen. Tiffany (omg, Tiffany) and her divorce. Mac and Maddie. I liked most of the side stuff, but the main romance was really lacking, IMO. The POV kept jumping around too much.
Grace comes off as creepy in the beginning and way too needy. Evan did not seem as developed like the other H's of Force's. It was awkward, awkward, awkward, sexy time, awkward, BAM! Evan has done a complete 180 and he and Grace are set....more

Evan and Grace's book is another terrific addition to the Gansett Island series. Bravo to Marie Force for keeping this series fresh and full of new life. With each trip to the Island, not only do we get a new romance (this one a particular sizzler!) and a chance to revisit all the wonderful characters we've come to love previously, but there are lots of hints and teasers for romances in the making. It's no secret that I love anything Marie Force writes and this series is certainly no different....more
Well, if you thought this was a book about Grace and Evan, think again. This is a book about Tiffany/Jim/Blaine. And Laura and Owen. And Linda and Big Mac. And Mac and Maddie.
Dear Jesus, so much jumping around from one relationship to another, this is a schizophrenic attempt at a novel.
Focus on one freaking relationship, Marie Force. No matter how hard you try, you cannot juggle half a dozen relationships in ONE book. Kudos for trying, but seriously... this is a disaster. If you don't have enoug...more

3.5 stars -- I didn't feel like I got to know Evan and Grace as much as I would have liked... I've decided I LOVE all the side stories with back stories on characters you've already read about and sneak peeks into characters that will get their own books in the future...but only if I also get a good whole story about the characters the book is supposed to be centered on. I needed more Evan and Grace out of this one, b/c you didn't meet Grace before this book....

I absolutely loved the first book in The McCarthys of Gansett Island series by Marie Force, Maid for Love. However, in my opinion, the last few books in the series haven't been as good as the first, and honestly, I was on the fence about continuing this series UNTIL I read Hoping for Love. Grace is a woman we should all want to take after, one who is unafraid to do what is best for HER. Once heavily obese, she decides (against her parents wishes) to have lap band surgery to help in her fight to get healthy. She also decides that staying in her parents home, where she is not supported, is not a good environment to be in. After a weekend on Gansett Island, she decides that it has everything she needs to help her begin a new life with her new body and new mindset.

This really could've been a 5 star for me because I loved the relationship between Evan and Grace. They were funny and sweet together and I felt their connection more than the last couple of books from this series. There was just SO MUCH written about other couples featured in the series and I felt it took away from Grace and Evan's story. Owen and Laura are getting their own book as are Tiffany and Blaine so I kept wondering why so much of their stories were included in this book. Then there's...more
