I'm rating this 3.5 out of 5. This is the first book I've read by Allison Brennan and I enjoyed it. Having not read the first three books in this series, I'm sure I missed some nuances of the characters and their relationships with each other but I don't feel like I missed anything important. I was able to get the gist of the past three books: Lucy was kidnapped and raped seven years ago...she is insecure, distrusting, and suffers from panic attacks because of that experience...her dream is to b...more

Many years later she tries out for the FBI and with the help of her PI boyfriend Sean Rogan, and her family with the background of police, FBI and Pi work it helps train her for the REAL WORLD.

SILENCED (pub. 2012) by Allison Brennan is a detective thriller, and part of the Lucy Kincaid series. The opening prologue is what made me have to buy this book. It's a great example of how to make a person want to turn the page.
I wish the author had continued to give us a longer glimpse of the time period/action within the prologue, because for me, it was the best part of the book.

If you enjoy suspense/thrillers with multiple twists, turns and secrets...set against politics and the DC arena...then I recommend this book to you. Silenced by Allison Brennan is part of the Lucy Kincaid series (I'm still trying to figure out the order of the books...but know that Stalked and Stolen come out later this year)but Silenced isn't a standalone read. I think it probably helps to read the other books in the series first to gain a better understanding regarding the characters. I starte...more
In Silenced, Brennan takes us back to the Washington D.C. area and back to the roots of the first book as the reader is (re)introduced to Jonathon Paxton and Kate Donovan, specifically. Of course, Sean and Noah are there as well. The new characters are interesting. I really liked Genie Reid, and I hope that we see more of her, especially since she's DCPD, she can offer a lot of help to Lucy and Sean. As I said in my review of Fear No Evil, I love Kate Donovan because she's basically Olivia Benso...more
I read a lot in this genre and expect some romance; a flawed main character with a troubled past; conspiracy theory anti-politician undertones; etc. I do read some of the lighter crime fiction authors like Janet Evanovich and even some Nora Roberts. But this was just awful. Plot? Fairly complex and well thought out. But the main character was whiny and immature; the writing was sub-par, and all the characters except the main one were barely developed. The book had no pervasive mood or feeling; i...more
3.5/5 - I overall liked this one, the pace really picked up as the story went along and the suspense was well done and had me trying to put all the clues together with the characters. One aspect of the Lucy Kincaid series that I absolutely love is her relationship with Sean - that's lacking in this book. In fact, this is a straight up suspense story, very little romance. I've always loved how Sean is Lucy's rock, after her horrific past, he's the safe place for her so she can actually be herself...more

Another great, edge-of-my-seat story from Allison Brennan. She knows how to write a riveting story that's for sure.

Allison Brennan has found a riveting protagonist in Lucy Kincaid. I've read all the Brennan books, but this spin-off series with the incredibly tortured young FBI agent in training is superlative. And Silenced is impeccable. Wrenching victims, a fearful and really evocative villain, 2 bad guys whose true identity I never caved to, and a collection of characters who are technically the "good guys", but who have their own dark sides and flaws, including Lucy's lover; this book never stopped. Fast,...more

I found it almost impossible to get through this book. My main issue was the sophomoric and uninspired prose. This reads more like an insipid romance than a crime thriller. It is a miracle that Lucy Kincaid, the MC, can tie her shoes every morning, much less solve a crime. She is needlessly and inexplicably insecure -- especially around men -- and several lines and passages were of the 'weak damsel bowing to the superior male' variety. The tragedy is that Brennan's plot would have made an excell...more
I love Lucy. I LOVE Sean. I love Sean and Lucy together. I love how Sean is with Lucy - this captures it perfectly "Sean would much rather she work for RCK. Her instincts were sharp and she certainly had the brains for private security work, but that's not what Lucy wanted." He then proceeds to jump through hoops for Paxton in order to ensure that Lucy gets what she wants. He does this without telling her because it is not about scoring points it is about making Lucy happy.

I absolutely LOVE every single one of Allison Brennan’s books. I think I have read every one of them, and I can never contain myself when a new one comes out, I have to buy it ASAP!
This series is probably my favorite of all the ones available, simply because if you have read all the other series like I have… then you know Lucy’s story. But with this series, dedicated stickly to Lucy, we are able to delve a little deeper and see how much that horrific incident actually affected her.

For the past two months, or since the end of If I Should Die, Lucy has been working as an analysis for the FBI's sex crimes division. Lucy is in a state of limbo while waiting for her turn to enter the FBI Academy at Quantico. Technically she’s not an agent, nor is she a civilian.
Thanks to FBI Agent Noah Armstrong, who is her mentor and training agent, Lucy once again ends up deep in a case that can cause her major problems within the FBI itself. There...more

When I ordered this book I was hoping that finally that Lucy Kincaid was going to be in Quantico, Virginia starting her training to be an FBI Agent. With each story, Lucy gains confidence in trusting herself and her abilities more, but she really has to toughen up some and be able to take criticism and not get all upset. She still has to overcome her near panic attacks at a crime scene.

Looking for a good twisted plot for your New Year's reading? Allison Brennan's SILENCED was excellent - we know who the perpetrators are, yet she kept me guessing how it was all interrelated until the very end. The heroine Lucy Kincaid is strong, intelligent, vulnerable, and importantly, 3-dimensional as she tries to solve a series of crimes before the killer strikes again. A little light on the romance for my taste, but overall another winner by Brennan. :)
What can I say about Allison Brennan that hasn't already been said? She rocks the hell out of romantic suspense - every fricking time. And this latest installment into Lucy Kincaid's world is no exception. Holy crap, this was awesome. And I just looked at the back cover... I have to wait until Spring of 2013 for the next book 'Stalked'?? Arrgghh. I'd tell her to write faster, but she's writing as fast as she can. The gal's a juggernaut.
Still... write faster. ;o)

There was so much going on in this book with the various crimes, but I was more interested in what was going on with Lucy. It seems for the first time in a long time Lucy was made to doubt herself and her abilities. Her superiors seemed to keep giving her a slap on the hand, yet she was the one who managed to connect the crimes together, find Ivy, and find and figure out so many of the major clues.

Allison Brennan is a suspense writer I have been reading and enjoying for many years. The Kincade/Rogan characters are all interestingly complicated, but I believe Lucy and Sean are at the top of my list. Lucy's background gives her empathetic insight but also makes her somewhat fragile as a violent crime victim herself. Sean's support is not as evident but continues to make Lucy a more balanced agent.
It was ok. But here I am, fewer than 24 hours since I finished it, and I cannot remember what it was about. Okay, putting thinking/memory cap on. Oh yeah, about ruthless killers out to effect the demise of some young prostitutes pursued by FBI agents and a young wannabe criminal analyst who keeps getting her self esteem battered by her mentor. Meh! It was, as I said, just okay. I usually enjoy this author's books a lot more.
As I read this book I realized that I must have read some of the previous stories in the series since I seem to know the characters. She writes a great police procedural with many twists and turns and some wonderfully creepy bad guys.
Her main character is a woman with a past who is becoming stronger, a little unrealistic but inspiring.
I will be buying and reading more of this series.

Pretty fair story but this book loses one star because it is filled with too much angst and too many "be still my beating heart" moments. Brennan has improved as a writer but she still puts too much nonsensical romance in what should be a thriller. Don't get me wrong, I like some romance for the characters, but how many times can I read "Sean is my rock" without wanting to take a rock to him.
I could hardly finish the book... It wasn't fast-paced... I have been reading the book for quite a while... I tried to prolong reading it in the sense that I would enjoy—but to no avail... I skipped too many pages... I tried my best to like the book— to connect with the characters but I am sorry I couldn't. The book looked good, had a good storyline too if only it had worked...!
An investigative thriller about justice, compartmentalizing vs. empathy, shades of gray, and surviving trauma. The plot is complicated and suspenseful, with careful investigation and a rush of danger at the end as everything comes together. The characters are strong -- Lucy refusing to be a victim, Sean with a questionable past -- and remind me of JD Robbs' Eve and Roarke.

Took me a while to get into the story. The prologue back story could have been longer. I really didn't like Noah's attitude in this one, and with Lucy's issues I couldn't believe the FBI actually accepted her. I understand the empathy bit, but those panic attacks could be dangerous; I don't believe she would have passed a psych evaluation. Except for that, it was a great book.
Very good book. I enjoyed it so much, I just ordered another Lucy Kincaid book today. I never read this author before. I would not hesitate to read more from this author or any other authors that might be similar. The book was a very quick read. I like narratives that move quickly and don't bog you down with details. I did notice a few errors in it, but they weren't that noticeable, and I just pretty much ignored them. I suppose no matter what format of book you publish, print or digital, you wi...more
Loved this book. I'm so hooked on the Lucy Kincaid series. So far my favorite books are number 2 (Kiss Me, Kill Me) and this book, but I've enjoyed them all. I really feel like I'm part of Lucy's world when I read. I'm a huge fan of having a big cast of characters, and Allison has a seamless way of putting it all together. Can't wait for Stalked.
I like these books, but they drag while setting the story sometimes. Once it gets exciting in the middle tho, it is hard to put down. I like the characters in this story more than usual, and it was nice to see some familiar faces back. All in all a good read and I am looking forward to the next one coming in November.
