Haythem Bastawy’s novel is unlike anything I have read before and truly introduced Egypt to me in a way I had never considered it. I know very little about Egyptian politics, aside from the relatively recent news coverage of the Revolution etc so found Bastawy’s work both enlightening and extremely interesting.

I've always been drawn to historical fiction based on fact. The details revealed on the pages of this novel opened my eyes to a key fact: we really are all the same deep down.
Hesham's journey from group to group, whether they be political or religious, resembles the same path most of us take in searching for the one thing we want most; freedom, and the possibility of a future full of promise.
