3.75 Stars for the Molly Harper entry only, Undead Sublet. Tess, as a chef, has been working a bit too hard, as the veggies start tellher her jokes. I absolutely loved the "Shades of Gray" by Katie MacAlister and "Undead Sublet" by Molly Harper but "Out with a Fang" by Jessica Sims left me wanting. In other words, while I did enjoyed "out with a Fang" it didn't leave me with the overwhelming desire to go out and read everything that Jessica Sims has ever written. This might be because I haven't read any of her other books while I've read most, if not everything, written by Katie MacAlister (LOVE) and Molly Harper(LOVE) so I'm already familia...more I absolutely loved the "Shades of Gray" by Katie MacAlister and "Undead Sublet" by Molly Harper but "Out with a Fang" by Jessica Sims left me wanting. In other words, while I did enjoyed "out with a Fang" it didn't leave me with the overwhelming desire to go out and read everything that Jessica Sims has ever written. This might be because I haven't read any of her other books while I've read most, if not everything, written by Katie MacAlister (LOVE) and Molly Harper(LOVE) so I'm already familiar with the settings and back stories of those two stories.

"Shades of Gray" was very funny and I loved how stubborn Grayson was, but at the same time I loved that he wasn't so stubborn he couldn't see a good thing when it was right in front of him. However, the story was made by Noelle who would NOT let Grayson just walk away from her, his Beloved, just because he thought he was doomed because of a demon mark. She looked at him and basically said "here I am, and you are NOT getting rid of me, no matter how hard you try". I love stories like that.

"Undead Sublet" by Molly Harper had me laughing so hard at points that I had tears running down my face. Tess goes to Half-Moon Hollow to re cooperate after working herself to the point of hallucinations only to find out that the house she rented came with her very own hunky vampire in the basement. Neither one of them is happy about the situation and resort to high school like pranks that are HILARIOUS (as long as they aren't happening to you) until Tess realizes she wants to stay in Half-Moon Hollow and that means she needs to win a contest. However when her attempts don't go well Sam steps in like a knight-in-shining armor to help her win the prize. While we all know how the story is going to end (it is a romance), the journey to get there is funny enough that you might want to keep a box of tissues close by.

"Out with a Fang" by Jessica Sims was my least favorite of the three. I did like that it was a chance for redemption for Michael and Ruby but I hated the reason they had to have that chance. I just didn't love the story line in this story, which is why the anthology is a 4 star instead of a 5 star. I had no issues putting the book down while I was reading "Out with a Fang".

However, 2 out of 3 being amazing is completely acceptable to me! (less)

Shades of Gray by Katie MacAlister

Love this author. Her wit never fails to tickle me, causing inappropriate bursts of laughter when reading in public. So happy to see Noelle finally find her Dark One. She has had such a tough go of it being rejected by her first one. I loved Gray, he was so full of himself, serious and determine to save Noelle from himself. The first is Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones world. Cute story with a Guardian and a Dark One. Plus a ghost, a cat who is more than "just" a cat. (And yes, I'm sure that my cats will get even with me for suggesting that there is such a thing as "just" a cat.)

3.5 stars - 3.5 stars - Undead in My Bed was a cute little, at times humorous, series sampler that gave me a chance to get a little taste of Sims' new to me supernatural dating series while paying return visits to Harper's Halfmoon Hollows and MacAllister's long running Dark Ones.

In the order that I read them :

Undead Sublet - My favorite was Molly Harper's short - when overworked chef Tess has a psychotic episode involving leafy vegetables, she takes a Leave and gets away from it all to Halfmoon Hollows where she sublets a house only to discover a house mate who goes bump in the Night - The story, like the others in Harper's new spin off series, was another grumpy fangy dead guy x human pairing but they play pranks on each other, so I thought it was fun and the female contingent of my favorite characters from Harper's Jane Jameson series are well represented. (I liked it)

Out with a Fang - Sims' story was connected to her Midnight Liaisons series (Beauty Dates the Beast) - When jaguar shifter Ruby turns up for her blind date, it is going to be literally a 'blind' date complete with blindfold - this story was good but not terribly memorable but still I liked seeing Ruby get a chance at the forbidden guy of her dreams. (pretty good)

Shades of Gray - Guardian Noelle is a Beloved who was rejected by her Dark One, but when she finds another Dark One - one who is cursed and determined to never bond with a Beloved - Noelle is going to have her Dark One this time no matter what - MacAlister's was a typical Dark One short and short was just about the right length for it. The right length because I don't think that I could have taken much more of the gabby heroine - but Noelle is the Guardian who appears in several books in the series, so if you are a fan you'll probably want to see her HEA. For optimal enjoyment though it helps to have read the prequel short, Lifestyles of the Rich and Undead (yes a short story that has an even shorter story prequel), otherwise the Dark One leading man is pretty generic.(pretty good)

I finally finished! I don't think it's ever taken me this long to read a book by any of these authors.

The book is actually a 3 1/2 for me. Usually I round up in that case but I just couldn't give it 4 stars.

Shades of Gray by Katie MacAlister - I usually really like Katie's Dark Ones books. I think I may have liked this one more but it was just too short. The story was just too rushed to feel any real chemistry between the mc's. It's a shame that we didn't get to see more of the development of Noelle's story. She's been waiting for her Dark One - she deserves more.

Undead Sublet by Molly Harper - This was the most dissapointing story of the anthology. I always look forward to Molly Harper's books. My problem with this story is that while both mc's were very likable characters I just didn't feel they had any chemistry. They made great enemies to friends but didn't have the passion for enemies to lovers. What keeps this book from getting fewer stars is that it does have Molly Harper's trademark humor and wit. Also the characters from Molly's Jane Jameson books are involved throughout the story so if you're a fan of that series you'll enjoy getting to visit with Jane and the gang.

Out With a Fang by Jessica Sims - This was my favorite story in the anthology. I liked the story set-up of a were being forced to break up with her human lover and then reconnecting with the lover years later to find he had been turned into a vamp. I felt this couple had the best chemistry of the trio. Again I wish the story was longer so we could see more development in the relationship. The ending seemed a bit rushed to me.

All in all this book is worth a read if you tbr isn't too long. It is worth the time to get to visit with 3 fun series even if the stories aren't the strongest.(less)

This is a quick easy fluff read. It's cute and simple and nice when you just want a little something that won't make you think too hard or won't make you angry or frustrated or anything like that. I'm guilty of skipping the Katie McAllister story. I'm not familiar with the series and the first chapter that I read, didn't interest me in it.

The Molly Harper story on the other hand totally hooked me. I had bought the book for the Jessica Sims story but LOVED the Molly Harper one. Shades of Gray - better than the prologue novella, which I did not like. But still doesn't rate more than a 2.5 - 3 on this particular novella. I used to really enjoy the Dark Ones series with its quirky dialogue and characters. It just doesn't do it for me anymore. I just don't feel the charm is there anymore.

I really enjoyed this audio book. Molly Harper and Katie MacAlister are two authors on my must listen list. It was weird listening to a Molly Harper book and not have Amanda roncone narrate it.

1) Shades of Grey - I liked the story it was cute, but Katie's heroine's always have an air of ditz around them no matter how witty they are. Sometims it's annoying but often times it's humorous.

I bought this collection of three stories because author, Molley Harper (a fave), was featured. While I listened to all three books, Molly's book was the best.

My only issue with Molly's book is that Amanda Ronconi, Molly's normal reader, was not featured. This was confusing to me as Amanda has read all of Molly's Jane Jameson novels. Why did we stray from what works? Especially since this newest book was set in Halfmoon Hollow as well.

Well, this was not all I hoped for, but thankful for Molly Harpers short story. Fun and entertaining as always.
As for Katie MacAlister's story, it was repetitive. I think her historical romance stories are more fun to read than the Dark Ones' stories. Maybe I read one too many of them.
The third and last story really didn't interest me enough so I would finish it. It was too easy to guess what was to come and therefor easy to put away for something else.

Katie MacAlister - Shades of Gray: I am serial reader of KM's stuff. Loved that Noelle finally got her Dark One! I'm a huge fan of all of the characters and it was heartbreaking to see Noelle get pushed on to each new novel without her story being resolved. Can't be upset about it though, the muse is there when the muse is there. One hilarious scene with the 'ghost whisperer' had me reading it over and over, giggling like crazy! Molly Harper - Undead Sublet: Oh MH, how you crack me up in the most inappropriate manner! Even though this was a short story, MH really makes the reader feel that the characters are fleshed out and provides enough environmental detail without being overdone. The prank war is hilarious and makes me think of my own husband's ongoing prank war with his brother. Plus, always a bonus when an author provides a recipe at the end! It followed a somewhat predictable formula, but had so much heart the reader is completely engaged from beginning to end! (Especially the easter eggs of the diner patrons' romantic encounters carved into tabletops, could it be one patron is Molly Harper?) Wish I could move to Half-Moon Hollow!

Jessica Sims - Out With a Fang: I wasn't familiar with JS' works, so it was great to be introduced to a new author. This story was a fun read, and brought a new twist on vampire lore and the many ways they can be destroyed. It was a little confusing hearing about newly turned vamps who had difficulty talking around them. The earlier description of the vampire fangs provided an image along the lines of walrus-length teeth, creating a comical image rather than seductive one. Unfortunately I couldn't keep the walrus-people out of my head, even during the midway point when the teeth were described as being only 2 inches in length. I still have thoughts of the were-jaguar being a were-jaguar/walrus. Eep!(less)

This was a great anthology, featuring novellas for 3 series that I currently follow. The first was by Katie MacAlister called Shades of Gray. This is book 10.5 of the Dark Ones series and tells the story of Noelle, the Beloved who lost her Dark One to another in an earlier book in the series and Grayson. It was full of Katie MacAlister's famed snarky humor as Noelle tries very hard to convince Gray that she is his Beloved and isn't scared of the Demon Lord who has sworn to see Gray dead. The secondary characters are great as usual and provide wonderful comedy to offset Noelle and Gray's romance.

The second novella is Undead Sublet by Molly Harper. This is the third novella in her Half Moon Hollow spin off series that originated with the Jane Jameson series. This novellas was great because we got to catch up on Jane, Gabriel, Zeb, Jolene, Andrea & Dick. in this novella, Tess, a Chicago chef, becomes so exhausted, that she swears the food is talking to her. She is put on "sabbatical" and decides to go visit her former mentor who had moved to Half Moon Hollow Kentucky. When Tess rents a house from a woman going through a divorce, she never expects to find out that she already has a roommate living in the basement - the woman's soon to be ex-husband turned vampire, Sam. The battle of wills as Tess and Sam each fight for the right to live in the house alone, by sabotaging the sleep and personal items of the other is too funny. I really enjoy going back to Half Moon Hollow and can't wait for another story in this series.

The third novella is Out with a Fang by Jessica Sims. It is number 1.50 in her Midnight Liaisons series. Midnight Liaisons is a dating service for the paranormal community around Fort Worth Texas. I didn't really see where this novella fit in with the other 2 books in the series other than the couple, a Vamp and a Were-Jaguar, meet through the dating service. When we first meet Ruby, the were-jaguar, she is pining her lost love, a forbidden human that she had to break up with some 5 years before. She has finally decided to start dating again and is using Midnight Liaisons to find a match. Her first date is with a vampire who asks that she be blindfolded while they talk and get to know one another. What happens is a little bit predictable, but the story kept my interest enough to get through.

Overall, this was a really good book, especially since I am reading all 3 of the series these novellas are part of. Since the stories were novellas, they were easy, fast reads. I would recommend to anyone reading the Dark Ones, Half Moon Hollow or Midnight Liaisons series. (less)

I would rate this a pretty solid 3. There are no duds; just a couple I do not feel inclined to follow (assuming they're part of a series, that is).

Shades of Grey - ok, aside from the rather blatant title, this had little to do with the popular fanfic. Noelle, who has been floating around like a lost puppy in the Dark One world finally finds her mate. Everyone breathe a sigh of relief. Humor is relatively restrained (no scenes so ridiculous as to induce face palming)

I picked up this audio free via Audible.com as they had a special not too long ago. Since I follow Molly Harpers Halfmoon Hallow series, I just had to get it. Molly Harper as usual, gave a very entertaining sweet and funny read.

4/10: Okay I love anthologies that contains only novellas from series' I read. Like Supernatural this one is awesome. Because I get a Dark Ones novella, a book set in Half Moon, and a cute little interlude with the Midnight Liasons world. If you haven't read a Dark Ones book before then just know there's extra enjoyment if you know who Noelle is.
Undead Sublet is very independant of the Half Moon Hollow series, only really crossing over with Jane Jameson characters and I didn't feel that I missed...more

Review on "Undead Sublet" by Molly Harper

**WARNING** Do not read this short story until you have read the Jane Jameson series past book 4. MAJOR SPOILERS if you read before then. I confused my series and totally spoiled myself on some things. I'll live, but I wish I had read this last.

I'm giving this book 5 stars just for the evil pranks Tess and Sam pulled on each other. I loved this little short story with all of my favorite friends from Half Moon Hollow. I'm enjoying Ms. Harper's books.

This was a mostly fun collection.

I got this for the Katie MacAlister Dark Ones story, and though somewhat entertaining, I found Noelle kind of annoying.

I haven't read the other two authors, but the Molly Harper story was my favorite. Tess was fiesty, and inventive in her prank war with Sam after they unexpectedly find themselves sharing a house.

Jessica Sims's story has a former pair of lovers reunited, but circumstances have changed a bit.

I would probably actually give this book 3 1/2 stars. The Molly Harper story was the best of the three. Molly is just wonderful. Everything she writes is hilarious and unique. The first story, by Katie MacAlister was just all right for me. It was a slow starting story and the writing was kindof juvenile. The heroine just seemed too childish to me. And overall the writing was pretty cheesy. The final story, by Jessica Sims was pretty good, but not as good as Molly Harper. I am left wanting more M...more

Shades of Gray - Katie MacAlister - I did not enjoy this story very much. You really need to have read other books in the series to understand this one. The switching between third-person and the hero's point of view was confusing. The male POV parts were limited, like I was viewing the situation through a mask. This is not one of the better Dark Ones stories.

If it hadn't been for Katie MacAlister's contribution to this anthology, it would have been fantastic.

I do not like MacAlister's Dark Ones series. The writing is questionable and the characters are lackluster - the short story lived up to that unfortunate nature. (Sadly, the Dragon oriented series MacAlister writes has also succumbed to the same sad fate when it started out with great promise.) 1 Star

I hadn't read anything by Molly Harper or Jessica Sims but I will definitely check them out after reading this! I'm not sure if their stories are part of a series, but they can easily be read as standalones.

I loved Noelle and Gray's story. I've been rooting for Noelle ever since she lost her beloved and always enjoyed her character when it popped up in other books in the series. Gray was very likable as well, but I'm a sucker for moody males!

“Shades of Gray” by Katie MacAlister. DNF. 10 pages in, and the heroine's harebrained mind was causing me serious neuron damage.

“Undead Sublet” by Molly Harper. I did enjoy this one. Their juvenile pranks were creative and fun, and Sam was quite a sweetie.

I didn't try "Out with a Fang" by Jessica Sims. Maybe some other time.
