Another gripping tale, with a twist I could have never seen coming, brought by the same absolute master of the romantic-suspense genre, making me happy since 1995. God, I love this lady! Though I didn't completely bought the premise (the one night stand turning into a healthy lasting relationship - which seems to be a close to the heart subject for Ms. Brown), I still loved this couple. But, concerning this sexual premise, I shall be quoting the ladies from Sex and the City: "Urban myth. Never h ...more

What a great book! I can always count on Sandra Brown to write a book that keeps me guessing and my heart pounding! I loved the hero of the book, Derek Mitchell. He was very sexy (in my mind anyway, I pictured him as being played by Matthew McConaughey!) and I loved the way he would take charge of the situation. And I loved how smart he was!

The villain of the story, Creighton Wheeler, was just creepy! He is one of the worst kind of bad-guys, the kind that knows how to turn on the charm in just t

The identity of the culprit is never much of a secret in this story, but Brown makes it fantastically suspenseful anyway. The romance element is pretty hot, but unfortunately (view spoiler). Slezak's reading is sexy as hell, as always, though I found myself confused between the voices of the two main characters at times.

I first listened to Smash Cut immediately after discovering Sandra Brown’s Envy – my first of her romantic suspense audios. As I listened to one Sandra Brown/Victor Slezak combination after another searching for another Envy, I discovered there simply isn’t another one. It stands alone as Brown’s best and my favorite romantic suspense of all time. But that doesn’t mean Smash Cut isn’t an excellent listen as well. When I listened the first time around, I graded it a B+. A

I feel like a sicko. Speeding through, interested only in the violence

I actually felt like a frustrated reader, speeding through, interested only in getting to the end.

Paul Wheeler, a wealthy man, is shot and killed in an elevator full of people. He is the only casualty of what at first appears to be a senseless act of violence during a run-of-the-mill robbery. The woman, Julie Rutledge, with whom he shared a standing Tuesday afternoon tryst at the hotel where the robbery/murder occurs, is conv

What can I say? I was at an airport, facing 3 hours of flying and a couple of hours wait time in the Phoenix airport. Plus they have this new airport bookstore benefit, where you get 50% refund when you bring the book back. This is a horrible book. A wealthy man is murdered in an elevator with his supposed mistress Julie, and Derek, a defense attorney becomes involved with the elite family which includes the murdered man’s nephew. Creighton, a narcissist who just might be a psychopath. No cares ...more

Boring. Main characters were not likable or unique or developed. The character with the most development was the bad guy, who I didn't care about and found boring. There was WAY too much of Creighton. The plot was stupid and drawn out into a book when it could have been a five-page short story.

I liked Derek, mostly because he loved his dog so much...and then SB had to go and ruin that, of course. As for Julie...she was strange and annoying. Irrational, too. She wasn't likable, and I wasn't sure

For 'Smash Cut", I could not put down this book. The story was strong built and interesting from the beginning to the end.

Another super book by Sandra Brown in "Smash Cut."This book kept you glued to the chair, to see what was going to happen.Love the characters that Sandra Brown brings to this story. The character of Creighton Wheeler starts out creepy and just keeps getting more psychotic as the story progresses. On the surface, the character of Derek Mitchell was just another defense attorney looking for fame and forturne. But as the story progressed you started to see the personal side of Derek and realize that ...more

In a robbery gone horribly wrong, Paul Wheeler is gunned down before the horrified eyes of his girlfriend Julie. Julie does her best to convince the police to look at Paul's nephew Creighton, which they do. This prompts Creighton's family to approach famous defense attorney Derek Mitchell.

This plot is so full of twists, turns and surprises that to discuss any more would just be spoiler after spoiler. There is a difficult, even brutal moment in the middle that will be hard for many readers. Plea

I selected this book for #2 on my list because it had a movie theme which I thought was highly appropriate given my 50/50 challenge. Plus, I had the privilege of hearing Sandra Brown speak at DFWCon last year. I was so impressed by her that day that I rushed out of the auditorium, bought the book (yes, actual hard copy!) and stood in a really long line to have her autograph it. She is an amazing public speaker, and all around very nice person. If you get the chance, go meet her.

I won this book from Goodreads' giveaways, so I was so excited about reading since the time I took it in my hand, since this is the first time I ever won a book. So finally almost 3 months later I got through the exams period and I picked it up!
Smash cut is a novel full of mystery, suspense and unexpectable plot. A handsome tough lawyer, a beautiful owner of a gallery, a breathtaking good-looking and rich movie freak and a murder are the keys of a book that you can't let of your hands.

Wonderful Read! But, what Sandra Brown book isn't?

I'm a huge lover of all Sandra Brown books that I've read. She's a wonderful author who knows how to capture one's attention and keep you hanging on until the last line of the book. Which, in this case, the last line was a completely SHOCKER.

This story is about Julie Rutledge dealing with the murder of her beloved, Paul Wheeler. Paul was a millionaire and with money, there's always someone behind it causing problems. Paul's family, they are just

Being partial to Sandra Brown thrillers, I found that this book, in its conclusion, was rather disappointing, as compared to her other thrillers that I have read. But, to be fair, I must admit that I enjoyed the book up until the end. The ending was okay, just not up to the usual punch that she has provided in other books. Our protagonist is a defense attorney who falls for a woman who seduces him on an airplane. She, we are led to believe, has just recently lost her "lover" in a murder disguise ...more

This is a book that's been sitting on my shelf for awhile, one that I won through GoodReads. Like many of the other books on my shelves, I'd been meaning to get through it for some time. It took a badly sprained ankle to do so and I wondered why I'd waited.

Julie Rutledge stands by helplessly while her companion, Paul Wheeler, is murdered in what seems to be a hold-up in the elevator of a hotel. But she knows that robbery wasn't the motive. Murder was. And the person responsible, Paul's nephew Cr

My friend Linda gave me this book to read. I just started it but so far it is very interesting. I love reading Sandra Brown books.
I just loved this book with all it's twists and turns and how one minute you thought Julie had committed the murder and the next minute you thought Creighton had done it.I also loved the surprise ending. I would never have figured that out. Thanks again Linda for sending me such a great book to read. I also loved how Creighton referred to all the movies when he was do

Although Sandra Brown is a bestselling author, this book was a disappointment. Not really a thriller, not really a mystery, and less than suspenseful, it only kept me reading to see what one of the characters, Creighton Wheeler, would do next. A wealthy Atlanta businessman (Paul Wheeler) is leaving an Atlanta hotel with his weekly mid-day companion, Julie Rutledge, when the elevator stops on the eighth floor and a shark-masked gunmen tells all the people to get down on their knees and proceeds t ...more

The title comes from a movie term explaining how a scene suddenly changes from one scene to another that is totally unconnected. That is what happens in this book. The villain is a "poor little rich boy" who has no real life other than those movie characters that he emulates in his own life. The problem is the that the characters that he takes on are really bad characters.

A lot of classic movies are mentioned and Sandra Brown does her usual job to keeping you turning the pages.

The Wheeler family was shocked by the senseless elevator murder of Paul Wheeler in front of his companion Julie Rutledge. Unable to establish more details on the killer, the police focused their investigation on who would benefit from Paul’s death. Mounting evidence highlighted Julie to be of particular interest for the murder despite Julie’s suspicions of Creighton Wheeler as the mastermind behind the killing. Aggressive lawyer Derek Mitchell became a pivotal point of contention between the Whe ...more

I have just started reading Sandra Brown books (this book being my third book). I thought it was a good book with lots of suspence. I don't like to be so scared that I can not sleep which is why I liked this book. It was a little scary, it had a little romance, and a little mystery. Overall, a good book.

Wonderful book. At one point found it was dragging on so long I skipped to the end but had to return to my bookmarked page to read the innards. Mid-way through is when this book became a page turner although I found myself getting so impatient with Julie who displayed incongruous behavior at so many points. The night Billy die, why go into the house instead of calling the Police. This was the SECOND time something like this happened. Derek was a totally lovable criminal defense attorney, so much ...more

I don't usually read the mystery detective best seller-type of books, but I bought this at a library book sale because my friend recommended Sandra Brown. I really enjoyed it because it grabs your attention immediate and doesn't let go. It has lots of psychological and physical action. Derek Mitchell is a young, good-looking, successful lawyer who gets mixed up with the very rich Wheeler family. One of the older members was shot in an elevator riding with his mistress, Julie. She and Derek becom ...more

I received this book as a First Reads Win....and I'm so glad I did. I wanted to wait to read it when I could savor it...and it was well worth the wait. One of the best books I've read in a long time. At times bordering on psychological thriller. The characters were at first hard to pin down, as they changed and evolved with each new turn of events. There was always a hint of doubt cast over the main characters leaving me scratching my head. The WHO was fairly evident from the start, but the how, ...more

    Oh my God!
This book is sick! And I mean it in the best possible way!
This isn't like anything I've ever read!
The villan was so freaking twisted and sick! It was absolutely captivating. I couldn't stop reading this book until I finished it.
And the ending! I did not see that one coming, but it was brilliant!
