I liked the bits with Caine and Cassie in Fear the Darkness, but unlike the early books the romance was a really small part of the story and Cain and Cassie's romance was pretty straight forward.

Fear the Darkness is Cassie and Caine’s story. It has been a while coming and I’m glad it finally got here.

Cassie is one of the were “twins” although I believe there is 4 of them, they are called twins. Book 9, Fear the Darkness has it all with some possessive, alpha male action, steamy romance, good vs. evil and of course a gargoyle that will make any girl giggle. If you have not read the previous books in this series, I would highly recommend doing so. While this book can stand on its own, there are a number of previous story lines that lead up to this one and explain the various creatures that appear throughout the story.

Caine is a pureblooded werewolf on the run with Cassie, a prophet and a werewolf that cannot shift to her animal form. With Cassie being the only prophet in existence, there are a number of power hungry demons that would kill to get their hands on her, including the Dark Lord.

With a minion, Gaius, doing the dirty work, the Dark Lord will stop at nothing to have the seer and take a human form once again in order to travel away from the prison that has held the Dark Lord captive for years. Already in possession of the one of the twin infants required for the transformation, the Dark Lord uses Gaius’s love for his dead wife against him to try and find the missing twin and gain access to a physical body once again. When the Dark Lord manages to capture Cassie and Caine, they must overcome the fear and pain to see beneath the surface and find the love that can save them.

Styx and Viper know that something bad is coming. After seeing a symbol written by the prophet, they are searching endlessly to find her and the cur turned werewolf that protects her. Knowing that they must protect the twin infant that is in their care, they are well aware that the Dark Lord will be attempting a kidnapping. When their efforts fail, and both the child and the prophet are captured, they have to work together to come up with a plan before it is too late. With the help of their friends, family, a gargoyle, and a number of mystical creatures they must fight for their lives and tip the balance in their favor.
For those of you that are paranormal fans, this is a series you don’t want to miss. While many series focus on one or two types of mystical beings, I love that this series branches out to a number of creatures.

The banter between the characters is always funny and of course the addition of Levit, the mishapen gargoyle that always sweet talks the ladies in french, makes for some lighthearted fun amidst that danger.
The males in this series are alpha all the way and when they get protective of their women, things always get interesting. What is even more fun, is that their women are never afraid of their men and have no problem putting them in their place. They are bad asses and can kick ass just as well as their men can. The sweetness in all of the chaos of this story is the romance between Caine and Cassie. While Caine is determined to stay a protector and not get involved, Cassie has other plans. Her innocence and his determination to protect it, becomes a subject of argument and the relationship between the two of them is to enjoy.

The way this story ends leaves me curious as to what happens next and I am anxious for book ten. Always an adventure, with some steamy sex, a few laughs and a lot of action, Guardian’s of Eternity does not disappoint.(less)

This is book 9 in the Guardians of Eternity series. I had read the first 4 books, have books 5 and 6 sitting in my TBR pile, but haven’t stayed current with the series. I will have to rectify that. I forgot how much I enjoyed Ms. Ivy’s books.

Because I haven’t read all the books, there were some characters and plot threads that I was unfamiliar with. So I would get a little distracted at some points, trying to make connections and understanding the significance of some plot developments. But that was no fault of the author’s. While it is best to read this series in order, I was able to follow along with and enjoy the book.

This series does not rely on the mating bond or deep immersion into another species powers or world. While those things are present, this is really a series about warriors battling an evil trying to take over the world. If you didn’t know they were vampires or shifters, you could think this was a modern day king and his knights. So I recommend this series if you like lots of action and battles with your paranormal.

Cassandra is one of four Were sisters that were separated at birth. She has been imprisoned for all of her 30 years by demon because she is also the Prophet. She has visions of the future that both sides need to know. She is an interesting mix of knowledge, because she sees the future, and naivete, because she has never experienced the world outside her prison.

Caine is a Were who has sworn to protect her. Here’s where the previous book would have helped me. Apparently, Caine has a shady past and helped out the bad guys but redeemed himself by literally stepping in front of Cassie and saving her life at the expense of his own. Now he is on the run with her, saving her from the bad guys, and trying not to give in to their desire for each other. Caine doesn’t think he is worthy of Cassie and he also doesn’t want to tie her into a relationship when she has just started to experience life.

So while they are unsuccessfully trying not to fall into love and bed with each other, the Dark Lord who was imprisoned by the Goddess of Light is plotting how to get out of his prison and unleash his demons on the world. There is a great battle scene at the end of the book that requires everyone to band together, from the tiniest warrior to Cassie and her gift of prophecy. These books have individual action and responsibility as a recurring theme. That one person’s decisions and choices can change the future and the world both for good and for bad. We get to spend a lot of time inside the head of Gaius, the Dark Lord’s general. It gave a depth and complexity to the book to see that he has what he thinks is the most important reason of all for the evil he is doing.

If you like lots of action with your vamps and shifters and even some fey, and just enough hot sex scenes, and you are looking for a nice long series to sink your teeth into (pun intended), then start with book one but definitely check this series out. I’m going to start a reread and catch up so I’m there for the final battle!

Unfortunately for him, he finds her irresistible and his newly found conscience is firm on not taking advantage of her naivety and innocence.

Now one might think that Cassie would be a boring snooze fest of a character in a paranormal world due to said innocence but that's just not true. She's smart, sassy and a fast learner. Her naivety and innocence comes not from a prudish mind but from being locked up for so many years, unable to so much as socialize with anyone. Cassie is a grown woman, beautiful and tough but she also doesn't completely understand the world around her, giving her a child-like mentality and views from time to time, which doesn't help Caine's dilemma one bit.

Cassie may be new to the world, but that doesn't mean she blindly follows Caine or lets him boss her around, she gives as good as she gets, even going so far as to call Caine out on him being a "sexist dog" when he wants to always be the one she depends on for protection. She isn't afraid of him or his sometimes cranky moods or the fact that as a full blood Were he's almost as big as a car and twice as mean. Cassie is most entertaining once she knows what she wants (Caine) and goes after it (him).

The sexual tension was present from page one, Caine wants Cassie but he doesn't want to hurt or take advantage of her, something completely new and baffling at times for him. He isn't used to feeling something other than lust for a female and to have his bad ass self WANT to protect and care for such a pure creature such as Cassie drives him nuts for a few pages. Thankfully, Fear the Darkness doesn't spend too much time on the "will they or won't they" battle between Caine and Cassie because there's a much bigger obstacle in their way. I'm grateful for this because frankly, Caine and Cassie are just too combustible to be kept from each other for so long. They're a pretty hot couple that will definitely make you re-think the whole "Team Vampire" thing (If you were inclined in that direction before).

Fear the Darkness is definitely filled with blood, danger, death and mayhem, it wouldn't be a paranormal romance if there wasn't at least one bloody fight would it? Keeping it balanced and from becoming an endless nightmare for her characters, Alexandra injects just the right amount of humor to distract everyone from the conflict, even if it's only for a moment. One of my favorites? Cassie's first taste of wine and pizza.

Having read Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity series from the beginning and loving each one of her alpha males, I'm going to have to say here and now that Caine is officially my favorite. I was mildly intrigued by him when he was a cur, he had hints of decency in him but it was never more apparent than when he saw Cassie for the first time. He may not be as tortured as Styx, Viper or even Salvatore, King of the Weres, but he does have that whole "Will kill to protect" attitude and as bad as he can get, his tender way with Cassie kind of cancels out his cold hearted, bad ass factor.

Fear the Darkness is a great read from beginning to end and definitely leaves you wanting more from the Guardians of Eternity and of course, leaves you with the feeling that the end of the battle is only the beginning of the war.(less)

My Thoughts:
For the first time in this series the story Arc was more prevalent then the romance. Yes we get the Cassie and Caine story and both characters were well written and have great chemistry. Cassie is a bit too much of a timid minny then again Caine was overbearing in his protectiveness. However the major part of the book is the final (or is it) duel between the Dark Lord and our heroes. We finally find out whats up with the twins and we have appearances by the majority of characters in earlier books. While I was reading I thought great this story arc is finally finishing and we can focus on the romance and the really interesting world that AI has created however I don't think it is over and that saddens me. I admit to being over this story arc and was disappointed when I found it isn't.

I have this story 3.5 stars I liked it..I didn't love it. I loved seeing my favorite characters back and loved the final fight between Dark Lord and Styx/Dark Lord and the Goddess. That being said other parts did drag a bit for me and I prefer the Romance being the main part of the story and the arc being the secondary plot. I hope the next book changes back. Yes I would recommend this book...the rest of the series I adored and you need to read this book for the final confrontation.

I am so happy that Caine turned out to be a "good guy," but this one was just a little disappointing. For one thing, Ivy cannot grasp the meaning of the word "literally." Cassie was "literally on fire" for Caine. Seriously? She just caught fire out of nowhere? That's just plain scary. There were a couple more incorrect uses of it, but I can't think of them right now.

The Dark Lord had been banished beyond the veil and kept there by The Phoenix (Abby) for several years, however over the past few months The Dark Lord has been trying to come through and allowing other dark creatures through as well. She created twin babies to use as a vessel for her return and has succeeded in capturing the girl child and currently looks like a young cheerleader.

As Cassie and Caine are on the run, they feel they can be more helpful on their own then with the other Guardians, as they feel the Guardians would just hamper their progress, however even as they try their best to stop The Dark Lord from finding the boy child, he is taken and reunited with his twin to become the Gemini that helps The Dark Lord become powerful enough to come through the veil.

The Guardians along with The Phoenix stand against The Dark Lord at the rift to fight to the death to prevent her from coming through. Cassie has another vision in the middle of the chaos showing that in order to win the battle they must tip the balance in their favor. She believes she knows just the person to help in that matter and sends a message to Levet, the small gargoyle who has little magic but can see through all illusions.

This is a great book that the action does not stop from start to finish. I enjoy this series and this book is a wonderful addition to the overall story arc. I have enjoyed watching Caine through several books and was very curious about Cassandra. They are a perfect match for each other and the attraction is very believable. The characters that come back in each book are a joy to see again and I am looking forward to more.

I got this ARC via Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Alexandra Ivy has done it again. I loved this latest book in her "Guardians of Eternity" series even more than the last one. Not my favorite at all...it could be, after 9 books, I'm just tired of these guys. I did like Caine. I like Cassie with him. But after they finally admitted and acted on their feelings....it fell flat. There's a lot of action in this book. Not big smexy action, more ultimate evil vs. goodness fighting action. Meskipun belum diceritain nasib akhir Levet, tapi gw rasa di next book, para pria (vampir, were, etc) harus lebih bersikap baik pada Levet krn bagaimanapun juga tanpa dia, Lord of Darkness tidak akan musnah.

Tadinya gw yakin buku ini bakal tamat. Tapi, kata-kata terakhir Cassie yang bikin gw berharap akan ada cerita lagi untuk buku selanjutnya.Setidaknya cerita tentang Santiago & Roke.

Because of her gift Cassie is sought after by players on both sides of the war but Caine is determined to protect her at any cost.

Caine has lived a pretty rough life first as a starving child on the streets of Paris and America and then as a turned Cur later in life. After dying and being brought back as a pure blood Wer Caine has made it his life mission to protect Cassie, the one woman who makes him forget all the horrible things he has done to survive. With the rise of the Dark Lord approaching its up to Cassie and Caine to join forces with her sister and their mates and try to stop evil from taking over the world.

As a huge fan of the Guardians of Eternity series I have eagerly been anticipating Cassandra and Caine’s book. We first meet this two characters in Beyond the Darkness which was the sixth installment of the series and the last book that I really enjoyed. Fear the Darkness was everything that I could have hoped for and I feel like the series is as good as it once was. One of the great things about Fear the Darkness is that as a fan of the series I already knew all the characters and loved getting a chance to see them again. If you have not read all the books in this amazing paranormal romance series I highly recommend that you read the books in order to have any idea of what is going on.

I really liked Caine but Cassie got on my nerves after awhile. I understand that she was held prisoner for most of her adult life but she comes off naive about the world on second then sprouting television references the next. I did love the chemistry between the two and enjoyed watching their relationship grow over time and not have them meet and fall in love four hours later. I felt that Cassie and Caine brought out the best in one another and I did enjoy how much they had each others back and worked together.

As I mentioned before I love that all of the characters from previous books make an appearance in Fear the Darkness. I did think that too much time was spent on characters other than Cassie and Caine and that way too much time was spent on Gaius and the Dark Lord. Gaius gets almost as much time as Cassie and Caine and I have no idea who he is. I realize he might be a big player in future books but I really wanted to learn more about Cassie and Caine and it seemed like every time things got good it skipped to a scene with the Dark Lord. After a while this got very frustrating and ruined the flow of the stroy.

As I mentioned I haven’t been a huge fan of the last few books but Fear the Darkness was great and made me enjoy this series again. I wish that Levet would have been in the plot more just for his sense of humor and ability to to make me laugh. I have no idea where this series is going now but I am very excited to see what happens next. (less)

This was like a full cast reunion! Everyone from the previous books is there for the seemingly grand finale. But from the epilogue, I don't think so.

Caine and Cassie's story began in the previous books and their development as a couple is pretty straightforward. The book is more about the continuation of the Dark Lord's bid for dominance. I forgot how complex the world has gotten until all the characters are brought together in the same place! Definitely not a book that you can read standalone....more

I have been meaning to pick up the books in this series forever. Somehow I have just not got around to it. I am an idiot. This is book nine, I absolutely have to go back and read the previous eight.
