Beyond the names of Abby's love interests, there stretches a four tier plane of existence encompassing elves, heaven, hell, and humanity. This show, no different from any of the previous, I came into two acts late, so if my explanation of the logistics falls short, that is to blame. It is to this plot's credit that quickly a mantle of clarity settled over my shoulders. Certain scenes such as camping out in the wild where trolls lead their goats around or elaborate shark-infested dream sequences stick in the memory due to the amount of time they are given for development. One feels that the author has taken massive shorthand of Abby's previous adventures as frequently a paragraph of “this event is kind of like this one I had awhile back” appears.

Characters outside of the main trinity of Talivar, Brystion, and Abby, with the exception of the talking unicorn (a little uncouth), the Elven Queen (a little mad), the Elven Princess (a little recessed), and the Bad Guy (a little mysteriously hateful), are not as well developed as one would hope. With such a large cast, it is to expected that majority of them would serve as tools i.e. this one is the Wild Music carrier, this one acts as an angel, etc. Perhaps they were better characterized when first introduced but if not it cannot be too much of a shortcoming.

I completely forgot that it has a consistent awareness of how ridiculous it presents itself. One could call it a sense of humor. One could call it the bickering of a long joined family. I'll say there could have been a bit more.(less)

I just finished reading the whole Abby Sinclair set back to back (I'd read and loved the first in an advance copy before its publication), and I'm already feeling somewhat bereft at its conclusion. Pang does a marvelous job creating characters that are, for all their otherworldly abilities and worldviews, fundamentally and humanly flawed. Abby not only loses the key to the crossroads (portal-ish key to getting almost anywhere) to the enemy, but the crossroads itself is turned upside down when it’s attacked. It is up to Abby and her friends to save it. During this mish mash of Paranormal Romance and Urban Fantasy goodness, Abby still finds herself stuck between two unearthly men, and married to one of them.

From the first two books we know that Abby fixes her problems by often making them worse. The biggest problem I have with her is her inability to decide on who she is in love with. No, wait, I take that back, because she openly admits she is in love with both. She recognizes that what she is doing is unfair, and while she is willing to sacrifice herself for the greater good, she can’t do that inside a relationship. She also keeps saying that she needs to learn how to fight. You would think the sharp shooter elf prince would have given her some pointers. She stumbles her way through the story as she did before, trying to save things, and while she can manage it, she often makes other messes in the process.

Brystion causes Abby to explore more of her Dream Walker powers. We get peeks into the dreaming world of others, which like the TouchStone bonds, is really neat. The magical elements in this series never feel tacked on. Usually all things come with a price in this series.

The side characters have become more interesting. This book gives Melanie and Nobua closer look. In previous books, we know that they were once TouchStoned lovers. In a way they are kind of the archetype cursed couple. On the other hand Nobu is a demon, and not a very nice one, yet for some reason I still want them to have their moments desperately. *Takes a girly sigh*

The problem here, at least for me, is that nothing is evolving. The last book featured the same demented bad guy, the same love triangle, and the same basic formula for a plot. It’s done in different ways, but it still feels a lot of the same. I was urging for some character growth, and development admits all the snarky conversations. The story leaves the reader on a high note, not actually a cliff-hanger, but enough information that lets the reader know everything has changed.

I do enjoy Pang’s fast pacing in this series. It’s always hard to set down. Despite my remark about the snarky language, I do enjoy it. I just want more from it, and still want more out of this series. This is a huge expanding world that is easy to follow, and is filled with a ton of unforgettable characters, but the plot felt a lot of the same. I still think readers are in for a treat with this series which is both witty and large scale.

I wouldn't recommend reading this if you have not read the first two books. This is a series where you'd come in and be like what on earth? I definitely do not think this is a standalone book.

Reading A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT was bittersweet for me. I really enjoyed the two previous Abby Sinclair novels and so I was eager to see what Allison Pang was going to do with/to Abby and her band of friends and lovers. The author has created incredibly real and complex relationships in this trilogy and I've been on the edge of my proverbial seat waiting to find out how Abby would get herself out of the pickle she put herself in at the end of A SLIVER OF SHADOW (that whole Tithe thing in the cover...more Reading A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT was bittersweet for me. I really enjoyed the two previous Abby Sinclair novels and so I was eager to see what Allison Pang was going to do with/to Abby and her band of friends and lovers. The author has created incredibly real and complex relationships in this trilogy and I've been on the edge of my proverbial seat waiting to find out how Abby would get herself out of the pickle she put herself in at the end of A SLIVER OF SHADOW (that whole Tithe thing in the cover copy) and if she'd settle down with Talivar or Ion. The good news? Most of the big questions are answered. The not-quite-as-good-but-definitely-not-bad news? I wasn't as hooked as I've been in previous instalments.

A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT has everything I've come to expect from an Abby Sinclair novel: an unpredictable plot, fantastically fleshed-out characters, magnificent snark, and steamy romance. (In fact, the book opens with some very steamy romance, making the excerpt below NSFW.) The cover copy actually gives away a lot of the plot points, though it doesn't hurt the reading of the story since there's so much going on in A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT. Thankfully, part of this "so much" is also a satisfying amount of resolution for a couple of the big arcs of the series: will Abby choose Ion or Talivar, and will she ever fully control her abilities as a Dreamer?

To address the first big question: I was thrilled with how Allison Pang dealt with this. I loved the way both Ion and Taliver are portrayed in A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT because they both get to shine and you can really understand why Abby has feelings for both guys. I've always been a sucker for Talivar and his tragic story (which we learn more about!!) but Ion makes some incredible gestures in this book and I felt for him in a way that I never had previously. Relationships are such a key feature of this trilogy and the author really knows how to put the reader and the characters through the ringer, not just with Abby and her men but with other folks as well. Melanie and Nobu's relationship exemplifies the word complicated and the Charlie-Robert-Moira-Benjamin situation is enough to break your heart, never mind Abby's unusual relationship with her father (and her father's with the Queen).

For the second question: I also really liked how Abby grows as a Dreamer in A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT. She's been a little afraid of her gifts for a while now but she really steps up her game this time around. It's always fun watching a favourite character come into his or her own and I feel like Abby grows immensely in A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT.

Despite this, I wasn't as invested this time around. I usually enjoy a well-written finale, which A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT definitely is, but I felt a little disconnected from the story and I'm not sure why. Allison Pang's writing remains outstanding and I truly did enjoy reading this book but it's probably my least favourite of the three Abby novels. At first I thought it might be because this book is darker than the rest and Phin is not his usual snarky self throughout but I generally enjoy dark (urban) fantasy so I don't think that this is the case. I think it might be information overload -- there's a lot of story and a ton of Big Events in A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT!

While I didn't love A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT as much as the two previous Abby novels, this book is still an excellent finale for the trilogy. I may not be shouting at the skies but I really did enjoy reading A TRACE OF MOONLIGHT and fully recommend the series to you. This novel offers closure on many of the main questions in the trilogy and leaves open the possibility of exploring the world further since there's definitely not a nice, neat bow for all of the characters. I follow Allison Pang on her blog and Twitter (some might say "stalk", but I'm sticking with "follow") and it looks like she's open to the idea of coming back to this world and telling another character's story, so I've got my fingers crossed. I believe she mentioned Melanie, who I've always been interested in, so here's hoping that passing comment comes true!

That's the best ending you could come up with? Abby spent the last two books saying she loved them both and you have her pregnant with Ion but still hand-fasted to Talivar? Really? I've reviewed the other two books in this amazing series, and each one has sucked me in more than the last. I have to say that Allison Pang is one of the first authors I've read that really had me torn between two heroes. Talivar is a loyal, sexy, underdog with a quiet strength. I think I actually liked A Trace of Moonlight the least of the three books in this series. Maybe the storyline wasn't as interesting to me. The writing is pretty good, and I think this is a decent urban fantasy series. It's just definitely not the best I've read.

This was a very quick read, but I felt like there was nothing new here from the previous books in the series. Abby is not really growing as a character, and neither are her relationships.

Abby has been a wonderful, but flawed, heroine. The love triangle between her, Taliver and Ion has been a reoccurring thread throughout the series and although I thought Abby had finally grown a pair and made her decision in A Sliver of Shadows, we find out that isn’t “truly” the case. She continually vacillates between the two of them and then when she is found out, she shrugs it off and goes on her merry way. At times, I wanted to slap her for her indecisiveness and thoughtlessness. The only bright spot for me about Abby was her acceptance of being a Dreamer and her stepping up and facing her fears. She finally grew as a character for me.

Taliver and Leo were better characters for me, especially Taliver. We finally learn about his background and how it molded him into the man that he is and the story is both intriguing and

The main conflict between the factions in fairy is at least resolved. How it will play out in the future is left dangling and would be a great follow-up story. The wide array of secondary characters is perhaps the best feature of the trilogy. Each character has a role, clear identity and voice throughout the series. It was interesting to see how Ms. Pang wove the characters tighter. Each plays a role and is critical to the events outcome.

The ending left me a bit confused, since as I mentioned earlier, there were a couple of story threads that were left open with questions hanging. One plot line in specific left me wanting more. Overall, I would recommend this series to readers looking for an action packed urban fantasy series, with great dialog and supporting characters.

This was utter fucking rubbish.
The love triangle was a complete mess - Abby was a silly bitch, she wanted Ion but still made sure to string Talliver along, Ion suddenly acted like he gave a fuck about Abby when he never cared about her before and poor Talliver had to suggest an open relationship just so he wouldn't lose Abby completely.

This is the third (and final?) book in this series. It's amazing to me just how much action is packed into these novels. If I were told beforehand everything that would happen, I would have a hard time figuring out just how it would all work. Somehow, though, Allison Pang does an extraordinary job of packing a ton of action into the pages of her novels yet makes it seem as effortless as breathing. They don't feel overwritten at all.

Well, it wasn't what I expect. There were so many things that irked me in this book. Don't get me wrong, it's a good book with an interesting plot but it's more of a personal feeling to the events in the book. But the Skyrim and Dragon Age references had little gamer me giggling ridiculously.

I understand you never truly get over your first love but how can you continue to want a person who manipulated you and then sold you out. I read this in one day. It had a faster pace than the previous two books. Most threads were concluded from the series, but I still have questions. It was left open for the possibility of more adventures, but no hook ending this time. Everyone gets a happy ending...mostly.

At the beginning of the book, Abby is only a shadow of herself, not even knowing who she is. It was quite sad to see her like that ... She does not really understand what's going on and at the same time she doesn’t care. But everything changes when she is killed by Maurice to return as she was before. But thanks to this, Maurice was able to steal the key and escape from his fate. And this is when the chaos falls upon the kingdom. Ion becomes human to save our heroine, but it is something that is not for him. Abby finds herself married to Talivar and must deal with the consequences. I will not say more, the summary already reveals a lot, many things happen in this story it is necessary to read it to understand what I mean.

I admit that I was very curious about this novel, we always ask ourselves a lot of questions about Abby. Yes, and my big, big question was about Talivar and Ion, I’m intrigued to know who she’ll really choose, but I think it is not yet the time for this (too bad). Well with these two men, it’s almost impossible for her to do that. But I still have a big preference for our little Elf, and it’s always difficult for me to understand her attraction for Ion while Talivar has so much to offer. I do not really know why because they both want to do everything for our heroine, but Talivar's still my choice. We’ll see! The love triangle does not really bother me in itself, but I hope it will not last too long because Abby needs to find a solution that can work for everyone in the end. Yes, our heroine finally plays with the feelings of everyone, and we know that it will not end in a good way. However, it was very interesting to see how all behaved throughout history.

This novel provided a lot of surprises and I was completely conquered at the beginning of the story. It is also very hard to put the book down before finishing. And what about Phin? He is seen a little less than in the first two novels, but he is still funny and annoying as usual, but more than that, totally loyal to Abby. A new very good volume in a series that I recommend.(less)

This is a pretty boring book. But the problem is not the lack of events, indeed, plenty of things happen: Abby dies, recovers her memories, marries, escapes form an evil queen and only in the first chapters of the book.

The problem is that every event is told with the same tone. The instant she realized she is going to die, when she thinks she as maybe killed her lover or when she forbid her pet unicorn to play video games, the main character does not seem to feel different emotions by the way s...more

This is definitely NOT a stand alone book, you will have to read the prior book (at least) if you want this one to make any sense at all- and even having read A Sliver of Shadow, I got lost quite a bit on this journey. This one got a little too weird for my train of thought so I give it 3 stars for resolving the plot line, and I will happily pass on any future books. I’ve been waiting for this book to come out FOREVER *wails*, ok, fine, like a year but that feels like forever to an avid book lover. I’m glad to report back, after reading, A Trace Of Moonlight was worth the wait! I love this book and the series as a whole is simply amazing! Allison Pang combines urban fantasy with romance effortlessly (well probably not for her, heh, but for the reader) resulting in complex world building, intense story lines and characters that will entice, repulse and actively engage you! Not once did I ever feel that the story line lagged or got wordy.

Abby Sinclair is an unlikely heroine with her imperfect body, her seizures and her complete lack of kick butt fighting skills. She makes up for it in spades with her enormous heart and loyalty for those she cares for, to the point of being the sacrificial lamb. While I sometimes wanted to shake her for her selflessness, I could admire her fearless ability to do so. She's just an awesome character all around. Completely real. Her love life is messy and hopelessly strung between two men, her demon lover Brystion and her Prince Charming Taliver. She loves both for different reasons but ultimately her connection with Brystion always seems to be strongest. It may be because she feels she should be with Taliver on principal, they have more in common, he seems to need her more and she’s loyal to him almost to a fault. The heart knows no bounds though and she craves the touch of Brystion. Though he has hurt her on more than one occasion. Their connection in her dream state binds them more tightly then I think either wanted to admit, at least at first. There are places Taliver just can’t touch in Abby, and Brystion has full access to all those and more.

So okay, the romance….awesome. The world building? Just short of fantastic! Everything about this book and the series is wrote with a lushness you just don’t find much anymore. Readers should be able to completely envision the world around them and get lost in the feel and tone of the book effortlessly. It’s almost all encompassing. I found chunks of time missing when I looked at the clock lol. I was captivated. Demon, fairies, angels…A Trace Of Moonlight has it all. There are times I was reminded of the movie The Cell, in which the characters got the chance to enter others dreams. It’s both creepy and cool at the same time not to mention probably dangerous to the persons psyche, especially when dealing with a killer to begin with.

I enjoyed the evolving relationship with Melanie and Nobu who we have both previously met in the prior two books. I wasn’t sure what to make of him in the past but the reader gets the chance to finally see where his loyalties lie and how his involvement will most likely shape future story lines. Ofcourse Phin, the quirky talking unicorn is still with us and really, I just love his snarky, no nonsense attitude that keeps the laughs coming with every one liner he delivers. He’s an integral part of each book and his complete uniqueness sets him apart from other urban fantasies on the market currently. The ending….oh the ending…I WANT MORE NOW!!!!! I won’t spoil the little/big surprise though. Even if I’m trembling with wanting to……

Allison Pang is in a category all her own and she delivers yet another winner for me! I loved this book and encourage urban fantasy and paranormal romance readers alike to check it out and discover the awesomeness for yourself!

I give A Trace Of Moonlight by Allison Pang 5 stars!
