I felt that the book was hard to follow through. It took me over a week to finish it. While demon/gothic genre isn't exactly my scene. The description if the city was quite intriguing..I found that while there was no definite year suggested it could easily occur in the past it in the future.
The antagonist reminded me of dictators of our past spouting rhetoric of fear to enslave the masses. Only takes one to break free to rescue, join, and eventually love "the enemy".

I've been trying to figure out why I was struggling to write this review.
I think it was because I read about half of this on the Kindle and had the Kindle read me about half of the book. I was fine with the half I read. I got a little lost on some of the parts read to me.
It didn't always seem clear as to whom we were following when I was listening to the story. I'd have to stop the TtS and re-read a section I had just listened to. This was particularly true at the beginning of a chapter.

I've read quite a few of Madelynne's books and this is an urban fantasy (not much smut) and I'm used to reading her mmf historicals so this was a little different for me.
Good world building, characters, a main bad guy who's poisoned others to his rhetoric, and a reincarnated demon and demon hunter lovers. Really good story just missed the sexin' (lol) so it seemed a bit longer to me. Of course, I don't really read urban fantasy for that reason.

It was certainly interesting.
It throws you right into the story without bothering to explain a whole lot, and by the end of it, most of what transpired in the beginning is still left unanswered. There was no introduction to the characters, and overall, little character development was actually done. We are aware that Asha and Blaze knew each other for a total of two days, and are bound to each other--apparently, but not certainly, after they had sex, which happened prior to us meeting them, and...more

Mix of apocalyptic/punk(-goth)..Unique. Beginning was a little confusing I felt like I missed something. Perhaps as a previous review stated- a kindle tts thing- I was hooked after a few chapters. Great for those who like a darker rough around the edges fantasy. Another author I'll keep my eye on.

I'm Madelynne Ellis, a British author of erotica and erotic romance. I started writing after a friend picked up the Black Lace book I was reading and suggested that I should have a go. The rest is history. My first novel, A Gentleman's Wager, appeared in 2003, published by Black Lace. I've continued to put out titles from that point, branching out into contemporary and urban fantasy in addition to...more
