3.5 stars. A surprising m/m shifter romance that stands out from the crowd for its rich and mysterious mythology. Nexhan is the leader of the Rune Fang people, a shifter race whose animal form is close to the sabretooth cat. He has been alive for hundreds of years but deserted his clan when his lover was murdered by the demon-like Kaga. Now he has returned and is disturbed and guilty to feel attracted to the beautiful and lost cougar shifter, Cole, who has sought refuge with the Rune Fang. The b...more
This is one book where i should not have ignored the other reviews here. The warning that this was self published didn't mean much to me at the time. The only other experience I've had reading self-published works are with S.E. Culpepper, and her books are amazing. So I did a mental shrug at the self-published warning and decided the premise was interesting so I'd give it a shot.

The good - I really like the story and world building and will probably read the next book. Great MCs - their many flaws make me like them more. The supporting characters leave a lot of potential for many more books in the series. Solid four stars.
The bad - to echo the other reviews, there is virtually no editing. I understand that this is self published, but just have a few beta readers go through it first. I just have a hard time paying for work with so many (sometimes very distracting) errors...more

Okay, this is how shifter romances should be done. The lore and world building was just amazing! The descriptions were lush and I could just picture the forest and their world as if I was really there. And saber-toothed cat? How awesome! The sex was hot, too.
Things I didn't like: Cole was a little too arrogant for my tastes, but there was a good reason for that. Also, it's a self published book so there are some editing issues, but it wasn't too bad.
4/5

It is hard enough for me, to understand some terminologies in English, and this book sometimes drove me insane.
As soon as I started the story and I saw the mythology introduction meanings, I knew I was going to have trouble to get into the story.
I wanted to give up about half way through, and I really thought I wouldn't be able to finish.
Why did a stay until 2:00am reading this book ?? I will never know.
It is different, of course, hence the mythology plot.
Do I want to read book 2 ??

This was surprisingly good. Held my attention for 90% of the book, the other 10% was me ready to kill Nexhan ahhhhhhhh aggravated me lol, but i loved the slight tension throughout, to me its what makes a good romance. Not a bad start to the series. Now when is the next book to be released, I'm intrigued!!!
