I was given this book to read through the We Heart YA Books group for an honest review, thank you.

(view spoiler)

Wow this book was so much better than i expected it to be. It was beautifully written and it has every thing from witches to angels and demons and lets not forget romance.

Flo is a shy and troubled teenager. But Flo also has a secret she is an Empath she can see people's aura's so she knows what people are feeling. Flo's mother died giving birth to her and her father was a junkie who made her pay for it all her life even by calling her a murderer. When her dad suddenly drops takes her to live wit
Wow. I'm actually rendered speechless at how brilliantly executed this book was!

Firstly - brilliant cover and an even better title for this masterpiece which is A Strange Fire by L H Cosway. Having a love for all things paranormal and to do with Empath-related abilities, I picked it up with high expectations and was not let down. Cosway's heroine - a shy, slightly introverted teenager by the name of Florence (of Flo, as she prefers to be called) - is as down to earth and troubled as any human be

This book was freakin awesome!

The YA field needs more books like these.

This heroine is unique. She can read auras and thus infer what the person is thinking and what type of personality they have. She's dealt with an abusive father but we walk into her life as she gets to live with her grandmother.

I lost sleep with this book.

The only thing that I would say is that the budding romance was predictable and cliche in the begining. Here you have a lowly boy who sticks with his foster brother

A Strange Fire is the first book in the Florence Vaine YA paranormal/fantasy romance series written by L.H. Cosway. I read this as a R2R with We YA Books! As always, a special thank you to the mods and author for allowing me to participate.

SPECTACULAR READ!!! Couldn’t put it down.. read it in one sitting!

A Strange Fire was somewhat predictable yet had lots of surprises. Flo was very shy and starting a new school has only made her stutter seem worse than it really is. She is a very unique girl. She can see aura’s. She can see the good the bad and the ugly in everyone. It is a lot for a teenager to take on but she’s had this gift all her life and manages really well.
Flo’s dad, who is constantly in a drug induced haze, has left her with her grandmother. She seems nice enough and unlike Flo’s dad sh

Please don't judge me for using a Sarah Mclachlan song as the title - it was fitting! A Strange Fire does layer very slowly, building up the mystery surrounding Florence "Flo" Vaine and her new town. I could understand some readers getting frustrated at the pace, but I, however, thought it only added to its charm.

Flo was a very likeable and relatable heroine. Sure, I felt like shaking her a few times for being too naive and for not picking up on things sooner, but that's only because I care abou

VERY intriguing premise! I’ve really enjoyed this book-multi-faceted and multi-layered, it isn’t the common “girl with an unusual talent plus boy with an odd talent or odd problem.” Seems like almost everybody in this story has something going on, out of the ordinary (way out) and not only is there Supernatural, there’s also romance, subtle sensuality, and DANGER. In fact, it’s some of those who have the psychic talents who are most endangered, and possibly least able to protect themselves, only

This was my first book by L.H. Cosway and she didn't disappoint! I didnt know what to expect but was pulled in to the book right away! Flo has been abused her whole life, until she is dropped at her grans by her father! Flo is different she sees auras, she know if someone is happy, sad, sweet or just evil. She makes friends and meets a really hot guy name Frank that has a secret of his own. And then all hell brakes lose! In this story Flo whom seems week and shy, steps up and takes controll fin ...more

"I can see everybody's aura, the colours of their soul. It's a gift, it's a curse. It's ambiguous really. I never asked for it, and yet I have it. I still don't know if it's real, there's a good chance I've got psychological problems".

:D (no spoiler here! that is revealed at 2% of the book!) :D

When you are use to reading YA books, you are also used to the same clichés over and over. What it matters then is how they are carried out and that is how you decide if it is a great book or an average o

I could not read this book in one sitting. I just could not! I'm actually surprised it took me two weeks to read it. I think it's both my fault and the book's. Why my fault? 1.) Exam week! 2.) Assignments, quizzes, projects, case studies 3.) Sleep! 4.) Fiesta week preparations. Why the book's fault? 1.) It didn't capture my interest righ

This one took me a bit longer than most to finish. Now don't get me wrong, it is a really good book once you finish it, I think it just didn’t grab my full attention from the very beginning. I am so glad I decided not to put it down though since the story within itself is very interesting! I enjoyed the different aspects it brings to the table. I can say that I have never read a book with a storyline quite like this one. The only reason this is not a 5 star review is because of the pacing of it. ...more

Shocking and beautiful, I loved this story. Flo was an amazingly crafted character as well as Frank, the boy who was not what he seemed seem. Neither is Flo. It was a twisting story of mystery and I totally liked the storyline. L.H. Cosway has written a spellbinding tale!

Loved it!

L.H. Cosway has done it again. She hooked me from the first page, something which rarely happens to me anymore. I thought my luck would run out after Tegan’s Blood and Tegan’s Return, but I found a new cast of characters to fall in love with in A Strange Fire.

Flo’s voice captured me immediately. Her acceptance of herself as a stammering idiot is heartbreaking. She’s never known love in her life, only abuse from a drug dealer father who likes to calls his daughter a “stupid bitch”. She’s
Florence (Flo) is dropped off with her grandmother by her abusive father. She moves from Tribane (wonder if she ran into Tegan lol?) to Chesterport. Flo's power is unique because she read auras.
This is a handy dandy little power because she has always know what each color represents ; so it hard to get over on her pretending to feel one way when she can see that you feel another. But it also get her stared at and made fun of because she is to busy looking at the colors and not at the people.

I read the synopsis of this book and I thought it would be really good. I was right! It is a paranormal mystery type book with some romance in it as well and while all of that is important and enjoyable to read I like that the book really always centers around Flo (the main character). I know that sounds silly but a lot of the paranormal stories today seem kinda like a formula take a girl add a boy with some issues and a dash of romance and bam you have a story. This book really covered and show ...more

When I first started this book, I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I can honestly say that this book was better than I thought it was going to be.

Flo is definitely a different brand of YA heroine--and I don't mean that in a bad way. She doesn't appear as strong and kick-butt as a lot of other YA girls out there; she's got a bad stammer, she gets nervous easily, and she's very self-conscious. However, throughout this whole book, I think

Goodness! A Strange Fire by LH Cosway is an absolutely wonderful book! I love it from start to finish. This book puts a new twist on paranormal romance books. First, there is an actual engaging mystery beyond the whole "what is he?" question that paranormal novels almost always seem to focis on. Also, Flo has her own powers and isn't helpless like so many female characters commonly are. She's been forced to endure abuse from practically day one and though it has given her some scars she doesn't l ...more

I was approached by L.H Cosway to review her second novel A Strange Fire: A Florence Vaine novel. I was pretty excited when asked and since I recently did a review on Tegan's Blood (Cosway's first novel) i automatically jumped at the chance.
Tegan's Blood is an Urban Fantasy novel that focused around the life of Tegan and a few of the local vampires and witches.
A Strange Fire, which follows Florence Vaine, is set in the same world as Tegan's Blood and Cosway mentioned that "Their paths will cross

This is the first work of L.H Cosway I've ever read and I must say that I am completely blown away by the awesomeness of it.

She was shocked when her father dec

After years of abuse at the hands of her father, 17-year-old Florence Vaine is suddenly sent to live in Chesterport with her grandmother, a kind woman who may at last give her the affection and life she never had before. And her life sure hasn't been easy, between her constant fear of her father, the stammer that afflicts her as soon as is in stressful situations, and her strange, unexplained power that

This is such a brilliant read. I enjoyed it so much I've now read it twice.

The balance between everyday life and the special powers of Florence and the boys is perfect - with neither aspect of the story overpowering the other. The settings were good without being intrusive and the gradual revelation of who had what powers was very well written, keeping the reader involved without giving too much away at the start. Good foreshadowing of the evil aspects of the story and just the right amount of

It was unique and exciting. Flo is a character that I definitely love she is not the damsel in distress character or the stubborn type which I often read in a lot of books she is just a strong character. She is one of those characters that you will admire for how she carries herself. She doesn't let anything bother her. Frank is a good supporting character. Although he is no Noah of Unbecoming of Mara Dyer but he is still somebody that you like being around. The characters are all very distinct ...more

This book was better than I expected. As it was a YA book that I "picked up" for free via Amazon Kindle, I didn't have high hopes. Maybe that's why I found it pretty good.
The story is good, the characters are mostly round, though many quite predictable. The developing love between the main character and her guy develop much to fast.(What happened to allowing time to pass in the land of fiction?)The secrets were a little more original than I expected and that was a good thing. That was a very good book. A couple typos here and there but over all, it was a very good story. I cannot wait to read more. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. I could not put it down, not to sleep, work, or even eat. Sounds a little obsessive, but I was just that good for me. It even haunted my dreams.

I have to admit that when I first read the summary of the story I thought I may be a little cheesy. I could not be more wrong. I usually get bored when books do not have too much dia

I started A Strange Fire because I loved the first two books of this author's Ultimate Power Series. It did not disappoint. I love the progression of Flo's character in the strength she gained over the course of the book, although she is not completely healed which is refreshing. Sometimes it is eady for sn autjor to write a character thst goes from broken to completely whole and healed. I enjoy knowing there is more to come with Flo and her newfound friends and family. I loved the ending except ...more
