What a great story! Melissa Pearl's YA romance/time travel book was interesting from cover to cover. Admittedly, I was less interested in the budding romance of Gemma and Harrison than I was in the Golden Blood and the adventure of Gemma's family and their time-traveling exploits, but I found the book to be well-written and completely enjoyable. The action scenes were amazingly well-done, but what was even more well-done was the mystery of what is going on with Gemma's family, what her father is...more

This was so different and refreshing! I have not read many time travel books, but I was wonderfully surprised when I got this for free on amazon.

Gemma (kinda weird since this is the second book in a row that has the main character named Gemma, which is kind of an odd name, but still pretty) is a wonderful character that I was rooting for the entire time. She has a tough exterior, but she really is a great person on the inside, it just takes time for anyone to break that shell that she built. Wh...more

Melissa Pearl, you have successfully sucked me into this marvelous story of yours and compelled me to put all other books on hold to finish your series. Thank you for that, no really, thank you!

Golden Blood is a magical tale about time travel, living your life, love, family, and so much more. Trying to be a normal teenager has been hard for Gemma Hart, so she has shut everyone out and become the school freak. Until, the only boy she's noticed begins to take an interest in her as well. And from t...more

I first stumbled upon this book a few months ago while on Smashwords and was intrigued enough by its blurb to buy it.
It then sat unread in my e-reader on the ever increasing and hardly never getting read tbr pile.

It wasn't until I read an article in a small local newspaper that I realized the author, Melissa Pearl was a fellow Kiwi and that was enough to spark my interest again for Golden Blood.
And after some funny and interesting emails, I was lucky enough to purchase a signed print copy from...more

Meet Gemma, a teenager who really is different from all of the others around here. So much so, she secludes herself. Gemma can travel through time - in fact - her whole family can. This is a secret that has been passed through generations and centuries, and something that they all keep very quiet about.

But when Harrison finds himself running from a spot of trouble, and ends up hiding in the same spot as Gemma, something engages between them, and he just can't stop thinking about her. This attra...more

Gemma Hart is a Time Spirit, along with the rest of her family. That means her father can whisk her and her family back in time, and Gemma will have only seconds' warning. Secrecy is vital to her family and, not wanting to betray her family or lie to potential friends, Gemma has isolated herself from her classmates, living the life of a recluse. She admires Harrison Granger from afar, knowing they can never be together. W...more

I honestly didn't know what to expect with Golden Blood. I don't have much experience with YA time-travel, but I was more than pleasantly surprised with this novel's unique and interesting approach to the whole genre. In fact, I was so surprised, I ended up reading the whole thing in one sitting. With a kick-butt but down-to-earth protagonist, a charming boy, a forbidden romance and a mysterious ability that Gemma can'...more

Definately 4.5 stars. I really enjoyed the characters in this book. The time-travel aspect was super interesting, I cannot wait to see what happens to Gemma and Harrison in the next book or who that guy is... I have my suspicions but I won't voice them here.

excellent book. Already on the second in the trilogy series.

I kind of hate this book on principle. The relationship dynamics between just about every character were horrifyingly unhealthy. It was kind of like taking all the worst YA has to offer and putting it in one book. But at the same time the idea was amazing. Time travelers who right past wrongs? How can you not love that? So I guess for premise alone I'd give this book 2 stars and I'll round it up to a 2.5 stars because this book did have it's moments of being fun and good. I chose this book mainl...more

More like 2.5 stars, but I'm erring on the side of 3 - mainly because the awful editing was almost hilarious:

1) "Thankfully he responded with a rye chuckle." - I suspect she meant "wry" instead of "rye," but I like the idea of a grainy chuckle.
2) "She wasn’t quite ready to see someone else hooning down the highway on her baby." - Hooning? Like....zooming and honing? Or hooting and running? Hoeing and swooning? The possibilities are endless.
3) "Her mother always got titchy when she was worried ab...more

Golden Blood wasn't what I was expecting, it was so much more. From the beginning of the book the writing was likable, the story sucked you in, even though it might have seemed a bit too generic at first. However as I continued reading, and the paranormal aspect of the story was revealed, I fell in love.
Gemma, the protagonist, is a typical high school student. She struggles with the secret of her family, where they once had to move because she slipped the secret to one of her friends. When she...more

Melissa Pearl contacted me directly to review Golden Blood on my blog at www.yanovelreader.com. After reading the description I was super excited to start reading because the story sounded so different from other young adult paranormal novels out there. Within the first few pages I became so hooked to the story that I sped through it and finished it in a day.

I personally love time travel stories. I grew up watching Back To The Future and one of my favorite books when I was younger was A Wrinkle...more

This book was awesome! I'm so happy that I have the next book, Black Blood, so that I can start reading it as soon as I get a chance! I would have been so sad if I had to wait to get the next book, that's how much I enjoyed this book.

Gemma and Harrison are super cute together. Harrison may be a little cheesy at times, but strangely enough it really works for him. He comes off as cute and in love, and it's impossible not to root for the two of them. Gemma has to be so cold aloof towards people....more

This totally awesome young adult paranormal romance captivated me from the first sentence. It had me alternately breaking out in goose bumps, sitting up in anticipation and smiling at the sensitive romantic scenes. Not being able to put it down, I read through it in one sitting.

The kids at school call Gemma Heart a freak. Those she helps think she is an angel and Harrison Granger thinks she is the most beautiful and sweetest girl he has ever met. With a secret that has to be kept at all costs,...more

I found myself up at night in the bed with my kindle reading after my hubby fell asleep until I finished it! Good thing I had the next one to start into because it leaves off with more questions than answers!

Gemma is part of a family of time traveler's. She is just a little different than the rest of the family. She stays as an outsider at school because of her parents rules. These rules are no dating until college because they are to marry another time traveler. Also she stays as a loner (freak...more

Who doesn't love a story of two young people who are forbidden to be together, but find a way regardless of the conflicts?

Gemma and her family are hiding a secret. A secret that could destroy them if it is revealed. They are able to go back in time and save people who have something to offer the future. Gemma really never knows when she will be pulled back, she just knows that she doesn't have a choice when the time comes. It's like her father flicks a switch and she is pulled. She has a few mom...more

I was overly excited to begin reading book #1 in the Time Spirit Trilogy Golden Blood written by a wonderful author Melissa Pearl. Within a few pages I was completely hooked and had a hard time putting it down. Melissa Pearl wrote a wonderful story about time travel, family loyalty, secrets and first love. Because of their DNA Gemma, her parents and twin siblings can travel into the past, change the wrongs and make the world a better place. Fearing people will use their gifts for personal gain G...more

There were parts of this book that I liked and didn't like.

I know when you actually are the YA demographic reading YA, you want to read about falling in love, and romance. As an adult reading a YA book, sometimes I'm thinking, I would be slightly horrified if it was MY 17 year old daughter locked into an airtight romance, I'd want her to experience a little more things in life, travel, get to know herself.

Anyhow, that tangent said, the basic premise is that there is a family of time travelers,...more

I absolutely loved this book. Loved Gemma and Harrison, both strong but vulnerable characters. The dialogue was realistic and natural, the plot was solidly crafted and the "time travel" premise was both wildly original while simultaneously completely believable. I'm looking forward to seeing how the series unfolds.

{my thoughts} - This book is about time traveling to the the past. It is about a young girl named Gemma Hart and her family. This book is sort of like a {phil of the future} and {doctor who} instance. The means in which they travel is a bit different but they do the traveling for the right reasons. The whole family is out to make for a better future which is something of importance when it comes to certain individuals of the past that had last their lives to soon when they could have done better...more

Gemma Hart has a secret. A secret she must keep hidden at all costs. One which, if discovered, has the potential to threaten her, her family and history itself. The Hart family are spatia spiritus, time spirits, who can move through time, change the past and have the ability to rewrite history.

After uprooting her family several years prior when she accidentally revealed their secret to her childhood best friend, Gemma vows to never make that mistake again. Not comfortable as the rest...more

RATING : 4.5 HARRISON & DOMINIC STARS!!

I really enjoyed Melissa’s first instalment in her 'Time Spirit Trilogy', I thought it was quite a 'cool' story. I think this series needs to be published and on book shop shelves.

What a wonderfully original tale of a time travelling family who are led or controlled, depending on how you want to look at it, by their father Alistair and loving husband to Penelope. I do have trust issues with Alistair and Penelope and also by the time you finish this book...more

Gemma has a secret she cannot share with anyone, making her feel like a freak among her peers, but when she meets Harrison everything changes.

When I first read the synopsis to Golden Blood I thought it was going to be comparable to Lauren Kate's Fallen. I was pleasantly surprised to find that Gemma was a complete contrast to anything Kate had developed and the story moved a lot quicker, developing solid, readable characters.

Self-published Pearl can easily be forgiven her un-punctuated tense shif...more

I'm always looking for a good time travel novel. Gemma and her family are special they have the ability to travel through time. She is not supposed to fall in love with a human, but Harrison the most popular boy at her high school causes that rule to crumble. When she lets her true identity slip will they be able to make their relationship work?

The YA voice was strong, unfortunately the story didn't have enough action for me. The well written love interest between Gemma and Harrison was what kep...more

OMG I could not put this book down! I was literally hooked after the first page and that doesn't happen too often. Melissa Pearl is an absolute master of story telling. The way she weaves the plot and characters into her story leave you desperately wanting more.
The moment I 'met' Gemma Hart, I felt for her. I mean how can you not feel for a girl who is pulled back in time by her parents whenever they want to? I mean, the poor girl has a life of her own. Okay, maybe she doesn't have much of a li...more

This book falls into the paranormal/forbidden love story genre for me. Gemma and her family come from a line that is charged with changing the past to make things right and improve the future. They must keep this unique ability hidden.

Enter Harrison, the attraction between Harrison and Gemma is strong and undeniable. They cannot adhere to the edict that her kind cannot be with someone that is not one of them. The forbidden love story is always fun. I love to see love prevail against all odds. Th...more

Golden Blood
Time Spirit Trilogy #1
By Melissa Pearl

My thoughts (Theo): I simply loved this book! So much that it hurt when the ending was approaching so fast!
I loved how the characters made me think of some random people I might even know, but I had no idea they possessed such powers!
It all starts with Gemma – the shy, never talking to anyone, kind of girl, some sort of a freak for all those around the High school, always playing it cool and...more

This book is better than Twilight. I can say that honestly because I read both books in the same week and I found this one both better written, and more engaging - not to mention the fact that the characters are easier to like.

This is one of those instances where I am forever grateful for my wonderful writer friends, because if it wasn't for Leigh, I may never have known about this book. It's a very easy read, and I quickly got captured by the characters and their story.

Gemma is an awkward teena...more
