I don't how Gordon always catches me off guard! Maybe because she keeps me up reading all night. The Rise is a masterful blend of heart racing action, fear, betrayal, and unyielding love.

The Montgomery sisters take us on a dark journey in book 3, more secrets to be discovered, and some one is tested to the brink (and way past) of insanity.

And through it all Alexa's Libra, Kayden,is steadfast in his support of Alexa.

But the Question is what happened to Jackson? Will Alexa learn about his secret...more

seriously READ THIS BOOK!

Her writing is so good, I don't know if I'll survive it.

The Prophecy says one will come along who will raise an army and free the enslaved. Alexa Montgomery was to be the one.

Spoiler Alert: The Rise: The Alexa Montgomery Saga, Book III

Alexa's mother admonished her for leaving Nelly behind when she came to rescue her from prison. It was Nelly they were really after and I had left her alone at Two Rivers.

The only purpose I had in life was to protect her. I am a Sun Warrior, one of a kind. My monst...more

It is strange. Not all authors have the balls to do what this author did. What is nice about it is that it’s totally unexpected. You just don’t see it coming. There is a lot of...more

WELL I'LL BE DAMNED.
I thought this series was already at its best when I was reading the second book. I was totally wrong.
The author has improved a lot, and I'm beginning to care for the characters even more.

Even though this book might have less action than the previous book, it is significantly more heart-wrenching.
(view spoiler)[ I still can't believe that Jackson died. Although, I was kind of happy that Jackson died while being true to his character. I still prefer him over Kayden, but what...more

I'm at a loss for words. I literally just finished this and my mind is still trying to wrap around what just happened. The Rise is definitely the best book in the series, so far. Although from what I hear I might be retracting that statement after reading the final book. So much happened in this book that I absolutely loved. In the second book we were introduced to Nelly's POV, which I have to admit I wasn't too fond of because I was used to just seeing things from Alexa's POV, and she is just s...more

I received a copy of The Rise from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review, that being said onto the review. WOW...just wow, this is the third installment in the Alexa Montgomery series and it is action packed from cover to cover. The Rise picks up immediately after Hafl Black Soul leaves off, Alexa and Kayden have just rescued her mother and they are heading back to Two Rivers to save Nelly. Nelly doesn't need saving and is far stron...more

So as you can obviously see, I have been waiting for this book to be released for a long long long time! The Rise starts off right where Half Black Soul ends, and it doesn't disappoint. Like the last novel, The Rise is mainly switched between two different POVs, Alexa...more

I know now that I am what is called a Sun Warrior; the last of a race of supernatural Warriors that were bred and built for battle and killing. More importantly, I know that this power I have comes with a huge price. The more I kill, the more I want to kill.

Throw all your predictions for this book in the trash, get comfy in your couch with a large bag of potato chips and something to drink, because you’re not moving the next few hours. This book hooks you right from the start, just like the oth...more

I am not sure I can find the words to describe this installment of the Alexa Montgomery Saga. It is action packed, had me saying, "WHAT?!?!?!", was a bit romantic and definitely had me on the edge of my seat. I have to admit that a couple of things that happened just down right floored me. I think this is, by far, the best book in this series. I loved watching Nelly as she, well I can not tell you what, but it was a crazy ride and seeing inside her head was..... whooooah!

The first two books in this series were amazing so I had very high hopes for this one and it did not disappoint. The book starts exactly where Half Black soul ended; with Alexa, her recently rescued mother and Kayden racing back to two rivers to rescue Nelly. H.D. Gordon is incredible at writing gripping, page turning books and The Rise is no exception, there are many unexpected twists that take the story in an entirely different direction to what you expect. Secrets that people have been hiding...more

This series definitely grew on me and this instalment was action packed with so many threads all interwoven throughout the story. Alexa finds it hard to let her defences down and let people in except for Nelly. Despite being a killer, Nelly has always accepted her for who she is and loved her wholeheartedly. Alexa has spent her whole life protecting Nelly and knows no other way. No matter what choices Alexa makes, it never turns out the way she hoped. By trying to save her mother, Nelly is lost...more

I don't know about anyone else, but this right here is the best book of the series. I know, everyone says that after reading the next installment of a series they've grown to love. And don't get me wrong, Half Black Soul was absolutely great. But I'm taking back my amazing and putting it right effin here!

So much has happened thus far in the saga that there's no way to summarize without dropping spoilers. And if you haven't read any of them so far, turn around and go back to number one, Blood Wa...more

"The Rise", book three of the Alexa Montgomery Saga, has definitely been the most heart wrenching of all the books in the Alexa Montgomery saga thus far. Alexa has to make some terribly tough decisions and has her heart broken more times that you can count in this one book. Her dedication and devotion to her sister, Nelly, is tested farther than can even be imagined and she makes some new allies in the mean time. Loyalties are tested all around and characters true natures are revealed. This book...more

The first two were amazing. As I got into this one more it was a little slow for me, I am not sure if it was because I was just not in the mood for the story type or what, but the writing was very good so it was probably me. However, a few scenes in the book basically made me realize this would be a fatalistic tragedy type series and those tend to just piss me off or get me upset so I chose to move on. Personal choice, I still believe this author is very good and has a great writing style.

Wow! I could not put this 3rd book in the Alexa Montgomery series down! I love reading a story and having no idea what is going to happen next. Alexa, Kayden, Nelly, and Jackson continue to try to save the world and themselves and there are alot of surprises along the way. I cannot wait to get my hands on the 4th installment.

H. D. Gordon's writing continues to get better and better and outshines the numerous typos and editing misses. The story moves along so well that the mistakes were little m...more

wow, just wow I don't know what else to say. This book was just as good as the others if not better I feel like with each book I love this series more and more I just cant get enough. I love diving head first into this world and felling like I am right there living it with these exceptional characters. The one thing that has always impressed me so much about this series is that the books are so full of darkness and heartbreak yet I can feel the hope and love just waiting at the edges leaking in...more

The Rise continues the story of Alexa, a Sun Warrior, and her sister Nelly who is part Searcher/part Lamia. It picks up with Alexa,Kayden and Alexa’s mother recuperating from their escape from the Dungeon where Alexa’s mother was being kept. Alexa is coming to terms with her mother, who not too long after they escaped, once again began reminding Alexa of her duty to Nelly, and also chastising her for leaving Nelly for any reason. Alexa, although irritated with her mother silently agrees with her...more

I have had a love/hate relationship with this series. I read the first two books free because I reviewed them for the author. I didn't get in on the third one, but I wanted to support the author (I try to support independent and self-published authors) and I did want to know what would happen in the series, so I bought the third.

Unfortunately, it wasn't that good. The story progressed nicely and blah, blah, blah, but the truth is like the other two, this isn't the writer's best work. Her novel...more

I received this book in return for an honest reveiw, which is no problem because...my first thought is WOW! This third book in the Alexa Montgomery series follows along right behind book two. It is fast paced and full of unexpected twsits. Just remember, prophecies are not always what they seem! The secrets and surprises keep coming, along with the pain and the love. The different POVs allowed for more diversity, which I truly enjoyed.

I’m speechless… W.O.W.

Alexa needs to be with Nelly. Nelly is lost and needs to be found. Kayden needs to save Alexa but doesn't know how because Alexa will always do what she wants to do and he will let her. Jackson is a pawn. Tommy is dealing. Soraya will always be that wise old soul in a little body that brings balance to Alexa when she needs it and the one character I most love and will miss when this is over. So much turmoil, pain, secrets, surprises, love… OH MY!

The Rise, naturally, picks...more

The third installment of the Alexa Montgomery series is amazing in that the author took the word "twist" to a whole new level. No way could anyone have seen that coming. The story continues right where book 2 left off but plunges into a dark abyss that will be difficult to climb out of. The book is action packed with never a dull moment. There is a lot of love in this story, as well as loss, pain, hope, fear, emotion, emotion, emotion, and the author did it all quite well.

Wow...just wow! So far "The Rise" is my favorite book of the Alexa Montgomery series. With every installment H.D. Gordon grows so much more as an author and it shows through the characters she creates, the poetry she incorporates throughout her work, and the emotion she inflicts on her audience. And let me tell you, "The Rise" was a roller coaster ride of emotion. FINALLY we get to witness Alexa's vulnerable side and it endured her to me on a whole new level.

The Rise begins with a frantic Alexa...more

H.D. Gordon has done it again; she has written another hit in the Alexa Montgomery series. Book three is darker than the other two books and filled with one emotional roller coaster ride after another.

Initially, Alexa has rescued her mother and and is driving back to Two Rivers with Kayden by her side. Mommie Dearest is on a rampage about Alexa leaving Nelly alone. So, they are rushing back to try to protect her. However, little do they know; but, Nelly has been captured by evil King William. He...more

i love this book a lot, but i'm still kinda mad about the way everyone(her mother and the rescued people from the town) expects alexa to give up everything for nellie, and even more annoyed that she does it. I see it as she not having any self worth, its really annoying. i looooove kayden. i was mad at jackson because he was angry at alexa for betraying him with kayden when he betrayed her from the beginning of their relationship so what the hell was that about. i like nellie but the way alexa g...more

I just finished The Rise & to say I enjoyed it is such an understatement - I absolutely LOVED it! I was gripped from the start & once again, HD did not disappoint. It was a roller-coaster of emotions - it's like I felt what the characters were feeling - the loss, heartache, desperation, love... All of it! It's one of those books where you know you're going to mull it over for days to come.

In this book which is the third installment of the Alexa Montgomery saga, the story takes a darker t...more

I really love this series. I only wish it was edited a little better. There are so many twist and turns that I was shocked at the end of the second book and this one did not disappoint. It had a few of it's own shocks. Be prepared for main characters to be killed off.

I wasn't a huge fan of the King's chapters. He was such an unlikable character. I'm so glad that she finally chose Kayden, but I wish that he didn't give her quite so much space. One minute he's glaring at someone who is hitting on...more

I was excited for this next book in the series, but was disappointed. I felt it had too much repetitive inner dialogue, and the book could have been cut in half at least. I hate that I didn't like it, and I always hate to give bad reviews because I know the hard work that goes into writing. Unfortunately, this book was boring and I ended up skimming almost half because of the repetitiveness.

Free book= honest review.

WTF just happened? It was kind of slow to get started. I was a little lost until I finally managed to re-submerge myself in the Alexa Montgomery world. But once I found my footing all of these things just started to happen... and than it was over. Damn you H.D. Gordon. You hook me every time.

Alexa, Kayden and Diana are driving back to Two Rivers in a race to save Nelly. Except maybe there isn't anything to save this time.

This book took a dark turn... but who doesn't lov...more

H. D. Gordon is the author of The Alexa Montgomery Saga. Blood Warrior, the first book of the Alexa series was her debut novel and has held a spot in the top 100 fantasy bestsellers for over a month. Half Black Soul is the second book in this series and H. D. plans to complete Alexa's tales by the end of 2012. In June of 2012, Joe, a fantasy novel about a young clairvoyant, was released as well.
