Inheritance of Shadows is a mystery combined with fanatics, a small bit of romance, murder and some hero worship. Aurora Mathis is a young woman invited to attend a convention honoring her father, Charles Mathis and his writings. She wanted to learn about her late father as she never really knew him. She had gotten the invitation from Dr. Edison Lee,a man who knew her father and had ulterior motives of his own.At the convention she meets various friends and followers of her father, she also meets her former lover whom she realizes that she still cares about him.If you want a fast-paced, grabbing attention mystery than this should be your choice.
Thank you to Net Galley and Carina Press the publisher.
A daughter who is seeking information about the father she never knew due to his suicide when she was three, returns to the house where they had lived. She meets many of her father's acolytes, as he had written a series of fantasy book with a made up world which garnered quite a cult following. Beings from the novel begin to appear to her in her dreams and gifts pertaining to the books are left where she can find them. Parts are quite creepy, some of the characters are creepy also so this was an okay fast read for me. Think I might have liked it more if I was a fantasy fan. Net Galley ARC.
"I laughed until I cried," is perhaps not a phrase that one would expect to find in the review of a gothic romance. However, in the case of Inheritance of Shadows, it was the book's one real saving grace. If I hadn't entertained myself trying to guess sci-fi/fantasy references and giggling over (perhaps unintentionally) hilarious scenes, I think this novel would have driven me mad.
I was impressed with this creepy read. A read about the daughter of a professor, who had developed sort of a cult like reaction with a book he had written and then committed suicide in front of her while she is a toddler, the daughter returns to attend a convention in honor of the father's book and meets former co-workers of him who are just as unusual as he is...then the fun begins! I will probably seek out more from this author as my TBR list lightens up.
This book was a ‘meh’ read. It had some good qualities. At times, it was creepy. Other times, it was laughable. Some of the characters lacked depth, others had sufficient depth, and even managed to be quite creepy. However, the book overall quite enjoyable, not the best, definitely not the worst.
