Another winner by Sarah Mayberry.

Trust Sarah Mayberry to take a plot that has practically been done to death in the world of romance and still give readers a story that is worth remembering. In my eyes, Sarah Mayberry is one of the few authors in the contemporary romance genre who can do no wrong. Each and every single story that I have read from her has always been memorable, and her latest release is no exception to the rule.

32 year old Charlotte (Charlie) Long leaves the army after 14 long ye...more

I laughed, I cried - fantastic, as usual!

Charlie Long had just finished a career in the Army and began her civilian life with a celebratory dinner and drinks with her best friend. Used to trying to blend in with her fellow man, her best friend helped Charlie enhance her feminine assets with makeup and clothes, something so foreign to her that she didn't believe she had what it took to attract a man's attention. This type of thought pattern is an insight to Charlie and we begin to see how she truly views herself. At first, I thought it...more

Not the strongest of romances, but Mayberry's strengths (thoughtful demonstration and development of flawed characters, enjoyable dialogue, interesting family dynamics, emotional precision) are all present. The pacing didn't work so well for me, and I felt the (view spoiler)[public proposal that I was so certain Charlie would (and kinda should) say no to (hide spoiler)] pigeonholed both Charlie and Rhys into some sort of stock romance and undermined all the work the book had done to have the two...more

Sarah Mayberry is such a breath of fresh air. She's a long, deep sigh for a girl like me. A girl who loves her contemporary romances even if there are no car crashes, bad guys or epic plot twists. The times when I just want engaging characters going through lovely, painful, everyday things in a way that feels like a favorite song. Sarah Mayberry books have done that for me now every single time.

I have shelves and shelves of these kinds of books, and sometimes I like them, and sometimes I love t...more

Another delightful book from one of my favorite contemporary romance novelists, Sarah Mayberry. What made this book stand out for me is that almost every aspect of the plot and the way the heroine thinks, feels, and acts felt so real. Many readers (at least the single female ones) could read this book and repeatedly tell themselves, “Yep, I could see doing something like that. Yep, that’s how I’d react.”

The book begins with our heroine, Charlie, going out for a night on the town with a close gi...more

Charlie had just got her discharge papers from the army. She was happy but nervous about starting her new web design business. Gina, her best gal pal had told her they needed to go out and celebrate, so that's what they did and that's when Charlie met Rhys. After a one night stand together, two months later Charlie finds out she is pregnant. When she tells Rhys, he's a jerk about it but finally comes around to being a father but he wants more and secretly she does too. Will they both step up to...more

Good book. I really liked both Rhys and Charlie. I felt so bad for Charlie through most of the book. Her self-esteem was so low when it came to her personal life that she just couldn't see that someone like Rhys could truly be interested in her. When she found that she was pregnant, she knew she had to tell him. Once Rhys got over his initial shock and anger, he knew that he and Charlie had to learn to deal together for the sake of the baby. As they spent time together, getting to know each othe...more

This was not my favorite Mayberry mainly because her others have been so good that I had huge expectations and living upto them became impossible, whatever the reason even though I enjoyed this there was a but attached to it.

For a long time I felt nothing happened on the romantic front, though of course it was natural, these two were strangers who now had a baby on the way and getting to know each other and becoming comfortable around each other takes time but I don't know I wanted th...more

Wow. This was a great book. Normally when I read category romances, I can predict what the characters will do or say next as the plot moves along. Not so with this book. It was as if author threw away the Category Romance Decision Maker 2.0 Flow Chart and had the characters act like honest to goodness real people: flawed but doing the best they can and acting NORMAL. For example, when Charlie discovers she's pregnant, I was jumping ahead to how she was going to keep it secret from Rhys and what...more

Two very strong lead characters. Few secondary characters except for Gina, Charlie's best friend. Both Rhys and Charlie move in some kinda of universe all of their own and it works because it kinda mimics the situation they find themselves in. What to do with an unexpected pregnancy after one night of passion when you took every precaution and were a responsible adult.

This is more Charlie's journey from alone only counting on herself to walking side by side with someone and trusting him to be t...more

Charlotte "Charlie" Long has been a military woman for the past 14 years. On the night of celebration of starting her life as civilian, a chance encounter puts her on the path of Rhys Walker, a gorgeous I.T businessman. It leads to a beautiful one night. But Charlie knows that she is not exactly the type of woman that Rhys associated to, so she walks out on him. Two months later, Charlie finds out that she's pregnant and she feels Rhys has the right to know. Becoming a father is not exactly what...more

I think its safe to say that I’ve read a lot of one-night-stand-then-pregnant-then-fall-in-love books. Compared to those, I have to say that this one is quite average. Mayberry did a good job with the plot but I would have liked to see more about the characters and a standing obstacle. I’ve read books that authors create freaking awesome stories out of plots like this.

Charlie Long has just retired from the army and moved to Sydney to start a home after her father’s death. Rhys Walker left his fo...more

I'm giving it 3 stars for the atmosphere. It was down to earth and low on the drama scale. All the characters felt like people you could possibly run into in real life. The romance didn't work as smoothly though. Charlie and Rhys' transition from friends to lovers didn't feel organic. I bought they were attracted to each other and had tremendous respect for one another, but I didn't buy they were in love. Charlie went from thinking about Rhys as a possible love interest to being dead set in love...more

This was such an excellent read. I loved how real the actions and reactions of the characters were. The awkward first meeting between heroine and his family, the uncertain feelings about impending parenthood on both sides, etc. I especially loved the friendship between the heroine and her best friend. It was spot on for a real life friendship. Sadly, we don't see strong female friendships often enough in romance.

THe heroine's lack of self-esteem was sad and started to grate on my nerves toward...more

Just some quick thoughts while I mull my review:

- Loved the characters. The plot may be a Harlequin staple, but the two leads reacted to the events with pitch-perfect realism and honesty. They had weak moments to go with their heroic ones.

- Cleverly written as any Mayberry book. I enjoyed the bit of Chekhov's Gun with that box from her father. Well done.

- I don't know if I enjoyed the romantic conflict, but it suited the heroine's character. I wanted her to be more confident and fucking snap out...more

Dear Ms. Mayberry,

It’s always a delight to read your books. Your characters are interesting, multifaceted, (reasonably) ordinary men and women; your plots are touching without being tawdry; your love stories convincing and sexy. More Than One Night isn’t my favorite of your books—I had trouble with the heroine—but was an enjoyable novel and one I’d recommend to any contemporary romance reader.

More Than One Night is not the strongest Sarah Mayberry book I've read, but it was still enjoyable. Charlotte, known as Charlie, grew up without a mother and with a distant father. Because of the almost loveless childhood, she's never had any confidence in her own worth or appeal. She's been successful in her 14 years in the army and now is discharged and starting her own business. Out on the town to celebrate with her best friend, she meets Rhys. They form a connection and have a won...more

Charlie Long has just entered civilian life after serving in the military for fifteen years. She is a little nervous as the military units she served with she had thought of as family. Her biological family consisted only of an emotionally distant father who is now dead. Her mother died birthing Charlie.

This background has a profound effect on Charlie as we learn in the course of the story. She has never been the recipient of unconditional love and therefore a) doesn't quite know how to receive...more

Not your typical baby romance! This book delves deep into who Charlie, our heroine, is. Sarah makes you literally ache for her, you want so badly for her to reach out and grab up what so many of us take for granted.

Rhys is the perfect man for Who else would be so patient, understanding, and know what Charlie needs? Simple. No one.

This book explores what it's like to make a baby with a stranger. Every awkward conversation makes you wonder just how this is going to work out. But it does, it does....more

Eh. This was mostly fine, but it just wasn't anywhere near as good as the other books I've read by Sarah Mayberry. I was ready to give it 3.5 stars until the public proposal though. I realize that's my projecting my own preferences, but . . . public proposals are a no for me. I don't like to read about them, unless I'm given very, very strong reasoning to assume that the main characters would want them. And even then probably not.

3.5 stars

You know, in a lot of ways it's a shame that I read what have been my favorite Sarah Mayberry books first, because I think it means I'm being harder on the rest of them. But I liked this so much more than the last two that I read which was a complete and utter relief. I wish slightly more of the book had been given over to relationship building (which again, I think is a byproduct of the length of book she's writing), but on the whole I was very satisfied.

An interesting story about a female soldier retiring from the service and entering civilian life. She gets involved with a handsome man while celebrating with friends and ,of course, there's problems. The woman needs to come to terms with how she was raised as well as learning to trust and love her man (not without a few bumps along the way). There's plenty going on in the story to keep your attention.

I like Sarah Mayberry's writing style. Usually her people are pretty average. They have hopes and dreams, flaws and hangups like the rest of us.

The premise behind this story is pretty simple...a one night stand results in an unexpected pregnancy. Two people fumble their way around to dealing with it and fall in love in the process. Simple, but well done and enjoyable.

This is really somewhere closer to 3.5, but since Goodreads doesn't allow us to do half or quarter stars...

I love Mayberry's contemporary voice and I love how each of her heroines and heroes are completely different in temperment, looks, attitudes, etc. I found how Charlie and Rhys fell in love after coming pregnant believable and real.

So a little bit ago, I started thinking I'd like to see what Sarah Mayberry did with an accidental pregnancy romance. Soon I discovered that not only had she written one, it was one I'd picked up for a $1 at Half-Price Books!

Sadly, though, I didn't think it worked very well at all. The pacing was kind of off. I didn't really feel like the romance was earned. And the thing is, I really related to Charlie, that feeling of not being lovable, that men especially aren't interested in you. And there w...more

Oh I like!!! Sarah Mayberry just knows how to write good plot lines. Although Her Best Worst Mistake is still my favourite from her, I think this is my second favourite! I'm giving this a 5 star since I just thought the story was smoothly detailed and I didn't feel like there were any scenes that were draggy/prolonged nor did the characters feel like their feelings for each other were forced.

Super quickie review...

I LOVED this one! It's a terrific Harly about an unplanned pregnancy (of course!) but it's not your average, generic Harly. The story was surprisingly sweet and emotional and genuine. I may have teared up at the end, but since there's no photographic evidence, I'll never admit it!

Grade: A

4.5 stars. Can a woman who doesn't believe herself loveable believe in someone loving her? Rhys and Charlie have a hard row to hoe to find their HEA. It took Charlie a long time to believe--one of the things I liked about this story.

I don't generally like one-night-stand stories, but I loved this one. Sarah Mayberry has become an autobuy author for me, and I'm persuaded that she could take any of my taboo tropes and plots and make me enjoy every moment.

Sarah Mayberry was born in Melbourne, Australia, and is the middle of three children. From the time that she first “stole” paper from kindergarten and stapled it together to make “books,” Sarah has always wanted to be a writer. In line with this ambition, on graduation from high school she completed a bachelor of arts degree majoring in professional writing, then sat down to write a book. When ins...more

“He pulled her close and kissed her the way he’d been wanting to for weeks. There was the smallest of hesitations then she kissed him back, her body straining toward his almost desperately. She tasted of salty tears and need and he tightened his arms around her, wanting to take away the pain he’d caused her, needing to make things right between them.” 2 people liked it
“He leaned closer and she swallowed the rest of her words as he pressed a kiss to her lips. He lifted his head slightly and looked into her eyes. She stared back at him, stunned, her heart thudding against her breastbone. He palmed the nape of her neck, and then he was kissing her again, his tongue sweeping into her mouth this time, turning her legs to jelly.
She pressed her body against his, her skin on fire, desire beating a tattoo through her veins. His tongue stroked hers gently, provocatively, and she reached out and gripped his shoulders with both hands.
After a long, long moment he drew back. “Come home with me?” he asked very quietly, his voice a low husk.
Dear God, I thought you’d never ask.”
