by
Michele Dunkerley (Goodreads Author)
American architect Hank Schubart was regarded as a genius for finding the perfect site for a house and for integrating its design into the natural setting, so that his houses appear to be as native to the forest around them as the trees and rocks. I was very excited to win this book through Goodreads Give-away especially because I just completed a Frank Lloyd Wright binge. The book arrived today. I can't wait to explore Hank Schubert's take on architecture.
Update: This book was very interesting and the residents of Salt Spring Island were lucky to have Hank Schubart there. I love the photography, the houses were well represented.

amazing look at the life and work of one of the most influential characters in Salt Spring life
Michelle is able to effectively bring to light Hank's contributions to architecture, quality home building, and the larger issues affecting a small community that's growing.
Highly recommended for anyone interested in north west home design, Salt Spring Island and related subject matter.

As a business attorney for Dell and later Microsoft, my world was shaped mostly by legal memoranda until I was introduced by my real estate agent to Hank Schubart’s houses on Salt Spring Island in 2003. “It’s a Schubart,” she said as we walked through the unassuming front entrance of what is now my home. And thus began my journey researching and exploring the life and work of Hank Schubart. I am n...more
