I wish I could rate this higher, because Huijser seems to write with a real love for his subject, and the subject itself is a sympathetic one, but alas. Kingdom of Books is a compendium of sorts of the first and most famous book town Hay-on-Wye, in Wales. The problem, apart even from the rather pedestrian prose, is that the subject of the book isn't really book towns, which would be interesting, or Hay as a book town, which would also be fine, not even Hay-on-Wye as a town, which would already ...more
