What a pleasant surprise this book turned out to be.

This is a sweet, uncomplicated book that feels both real and unapologeticly honest. And while there were a few stumbles along the way with pacing, I found myself smiling while reading this book. Sometimes it takes a simple story about finding love and family when you least expect it, to remind me of why I love to read so much. I found myself rooting for Amy and hoping for her to have her perfect, if complicated happy ending.

Just over a month ago I was e-mailed by author Amy Peterson asking if I would review her book. Since I'm almost always up for helping an author out with reviewing their book I obliged. Unfortunately for her, I've been a bad reviewer and only got to the book last week, on the plus side the plus side this book was my second read for the Review Copy Cleanup Challenge! This fellow bloggers, is what happens when you over commit yourself to revi...more

From Zero To Four Kids In Thirty Seconds is one of those books you don't read when you're in a room full with people waiting on their loved ones to awake from surgeries. Because chances are you'll die laughing and nothing is more embarrassing than being insensitive to the people around you.
Well, take it from me. That's exactly what I did: I picked Amy L. Peterson's book to read at the clinic, in a room full of people that most likely wanted to kick me out of there for laughing so hard....more

Description:

Amy is single, career oriented, financially stable, and ready to seize her life - but not ready to settle down and have kids. Mark is slightly older, a divorcee, and has four children. The pair have worked around each other for years, but now that they are both single, sparks start flying- and so do tackle boxes. Amy goes from single lady to step-mom of Simone, Samantha, Conrad and Elizabeth in record time, and the events that follow - the good, the bad, and the sometimes ugly - cha...more

My spouse is a voracious reader, so she wasn't giving this book up easily for me to read - even though she recommended I do so. That was fine, because a first-person account about a woman marrying a man with four children and becoming an instant stepmom wasn't very high on my to-do list. In fact, it was somewhere south of cleaning out the basement. I'm a guy. I never really thought about what it's like to pick out a wedding dress, nor cared.

But once I started reading, I was hooked. Actually, it...more

From Zero To Four Kids In Thirty Seconds is a humorous memoir by the author documenting how she went from a financially independent single woman with no obligations and a lengthy list of reasons for not getting married and having kids, to single handily hooking an older divorced man with four children. Amy L. Peterson takes the reader along for a fun roller coaster ride as she describes the events that led her from being a single lady to a wife and stepmom in no time at all. Throughout the book,...more

Amy Peterson was quite happy with her single, child-free, career-focused life. So what if the highlight of her day was burning soldier ants that were trying to eat her out of her bedroom furniture? Her life was reasonably uncomplicated with lots of free time to explore nature and do the things she loved to do.

But then she started dating her colleague, Mark, and her life was never to be the same again. Mark and Amy hit it off right away, even though he was a divorcee with weekend and vacation acc...more

At times it was funny and hit step-mother feelings head on. Still it felt like there was a lot missing, most probably because the author is not a maternal woman. There was never any love for the children, they always seemed like an unpleasant addition to her husband that she had to tolerate because she loved him. The bio mother obviously didn't make things easier, always wanting more money, but I had a hard time sympathizing since it seemed like they had plenty of money for vacations. As a mothe...more

From Zero To Four Kids In Thirty Seconds is a fantastic and funny book about how Amy the independent woman who meets Mark, a divorced man with four kids, who works in the same building as her and they fall in love.

Amy got a lot more than she bargained for though, four kids is tough to deal with if they are your own kids, let a lone someone else’s and then you have two that are teenagers.

Some of the tips and chapter titles Amy wrote in the book made me giggle for example You can’t trade a bad kid...more

An honest and entertaining story of a woman who became a stepmother to four kids. As a mother of three, I felt quite familiar with some of the stories :-)).The narration is a bit chaotic- sometimes it seemed more like a collection of family stories. The humour was good but I had the feeling that a great deal was left outside the book. Anyway it`s a great encouragement for stepmothers and one can find a good advice. I highlighted some passages such as " Why did God invent teenagers?""As a practic...more

I read this book as part of a Virtual Book Tour...

An entertaining story of a woman who thought she had her life figured out, and then falls in love with a much older man with four kids...It's an honest story, humerous at times and filled with advice to anyone who finds themselves in a similar situation.
It's narration could have used a little more work. I felt like it was rushed, or maybe some parts of the story was left out...
Overall I liked the book I recommend it to anyone looking for a light...more

This was a really fun read. Hilarious, indeed. Amy has done a great job of showing the lighter view of a very serious situation.

Are you in need of some laughs? Then this book is the best bet for you. Did you just become a stepmother and have no idea how to adjust to this big change in your life? This book may give you some advice and will uplift your mood at the same time. Amy is a wonderful writer. She shares her story with such simplicity and fun that it’s an easy, quick read and gath...more

A Gone Bookserk Perspective

Driving in the car today, a realization became clear. Infidelity and the dissolution of marriages are still on the rise. There isn't one day the radios don't bring it up, or the newpapers talk about it. Reading this book then becomes a relevant topic. It's very likely to happen to you; to find yourself falling in love with a divorcee with four kids. And if you do this is definitely the book for you. Even if you don't, there's plenty to uncover about life, in general....more

Amy had her priorities in life all set and ‘marriage’ was not on top of that list. Not even in the middle. And having kids was nowhere on that list! She hadn’t even ‘noticed’ Mark until he rejects her proposal at work. And well, when she does notice him – the unexpected happens. Amy not only ends up marrying Mark but also takes on the four children from Mark’s first marriage. From being a single career oriented woman to being a wife and a mother, that is exactly what this book is all about.

It’s...more

So I feel kind of dumb after reading this book. It took me quite a bit longer than usual to read - 7 days as opposed to my typical 2-3 days so it was pretty slow going. I felt like the writing wasn't that great and it didn't flow together all that well. Then...I got to the end and realized that this was a true story!!! not a fiction work. Whoops!!! That changed my perspective on things. All in all, it wasn't the greatest read, but I typically enjoy fiction more so that's probably why I wasn't to...more

An incredibly mean-spirited and completely unfunny book about becoming a blended family. Why anyone in Ms. Peterson's family still speaks to her after she portrayed the entire lot as a bunch of ungrateful idiots is beyond me. I only read this book based on the positive reviews posted online. I am a stepmother of four & thought it would be interesting to read. How wrong I was.

I had to pick this up because it looked like a lighthearted read on what can be a very trying subject. I have a friend who got married almost 3 years ago, and the problems she is having because of the ex-wife are unbelievable -- in a bad way. I'm looking to shed some laughter on the situation (for anyone) if I ever get around to reading this book LOL

It was an okay look at how to make being a step mother work. Humerous at times and good advice other times.

It was OK ... had some humor ... still not sure I would know what/how to do with stepkids.

3.5 stars, it was a cute refreshing little book. Nothing too exciting but interesting enough.

From the reviews, I assumed this book would be funnier. Don't get me wrong there were a few funny parts, but for the most part I had a hard time relating (I am not a step-mother, LOL!)...... anyway, it was just okay for me.
