Barry Carlson had it all, a successful career in professional baseball and the adoration of any woman he wanted. Except one. Forced to retire in his prime, Barry returns to his hometown of Summerville, New York to coach the Minor League Hornets.

Twenty years ago, Barry broke through Amanda Marsh's trust issues. He melted her ice, won her love, then walked away without a bac...more

This had an intriguing premise: Barry is meeting up with old high school girlfriend Amanda, 25 years after he almost raped her and then never spoke to her again. Unfortunately, neither the plot nor the writing made anything out of the premise. The writing ranged from awkward at worst to bland at best, and the author really needs to look up the difference between a euphemism and a cliche. The plot seriously minimized date-rape and took a generally slut-shaming, anti-woman tone. (And I didn't noti...more
To Be Or Not was my 2nd read in the Class of 85 series. I love the concept of the series, different authors writing about different characters from the same home town with the common thread of the upcoming Summerville Class of 1985's 25th High School Reunion.

To Be or Not tells the story of baseball great Barry Carlson who moves back to town after a career ending injury. He finally has the chance to fix his one regret, a botched relationship with classmate Amanda Marsh 25 years ago. Is the timin...more

This story was a contemporary romance novella that could have been a much better book if it wasn’t for some key factors. The high school reunion concept was not used to its full potential as the actual reunion played only a very minor role in the novella and all events that occurred during the scenes located at the reunion could have just as easily occurred elsewhere. This was especially ma...more

Will Amanda and Barry find love the second time around? I was cheering them on from the first chapter to the last in this feel good novel about second chances. If you're a fan of this series, you'll recognize a few characters who have turned up before. Kudos, Ms. Hoornstra, for a job well done!

To Be Or Not by Margo Hoornstra is part of the Class of '85 Reunion Series. I enjoy books about older heroes and heroines. Their life experiences often make them more interesting. In this book, baseball star Barry Carlson has returned home to coach the local Triple A team after a career-ending injury. Amanda Marsh, the "girl who got away", has also returned home after a disastrous marriage involving abuse. She's leery of men, even though she's still in love with Barry, and she also works for the...more

To Be Or Not was my first read in the Class of 85 series. Each book is a stand-alone addition with a common thread--their upcoming 25th class reunion.

The hero is Barry Carlson. He left town to become a star athlete and only returned after an injury ended his pro baseball career. Returning to his small hometown gave him a new opportunity, however, to take care of some unfinished business with heroine Amanda Marsh.

This work has a pleasant, fast-flowing narrative, with lifelike characters who have...more
