This has GOT to be one of my favourite ET books EVER. It wasn't too long, so it didn't drag on and on and get extremely boring. It was quick, straight to the action and whole point of the book, packed with an exciting and gripping story and a cliffhanger ending to die for. What's not to like?

You see I'm not a big fan of alien books. I usually find them boring and uninteresting they just don't catch and hold my attention.

I actually wanted to read this book from Nick’s point of view which rarely happens to me. He had a little Bourne Identity going on and it was interesting to read but it wasn’t quite fully developed. If you have read the Stained Series by Ella James you would be pretty familiar with her writing style. Not matter what the story is, James does a fantastic job on the imagery and story telling.

While she is out tracking Deer a freakish storm hits and as she darts one of the Deer she accidentally misses and hits a guy dressed in a tux! When Milo rushes to speak with him she realises that he doesn't remember a thing and whether it is guilt or pure attraction, she sets out to help him.

Milo is such a sweet character. She is not your typical girl. She has issues but she is also passionate, loyal and strong. She is easily relatable. At times she does seem to make irrational decisions but who wouldn't when you want a little adventure in your life.
Nick (as Milo has named him) really keeps you guessing. We don't really know what or who he is. He has little memory but some how has a connection with Milo.
The plot thickens when we find out that 'Nick' is really Gabe, who has been missing after his family was in a car accident. After it appears that Gabe is the only survivor he leaves Milo to go be with his grandmother.

Things start to get really intense when the Department of Defence show up at Milo's house, investigating the freak storm surge that happened the day Milo found Nick. Milo mentions nothing however the agents just don't get away and then Nick and Milo find themselves on the run.

Now I have to admit that I didn't read the book blurb before I read this book. Sometimes I like to leave it a mystery about what is going happen. I am glad I did, the whole time I sat there guessing 'what' Nick was! I truly was coming up with all sorts of suggestions.
The plot starts off slow but James does an incredible job of building the mystery and action as the story progresses.
The only slight problem was it did get confusing when the story switched point of views. I wasn't too sure who was narrating at times, however I did enjoy Nick/Gabes PoV so I hope we see more of it in the next instalment.

As usual we are left with a cliffhanger ending which leaves you wanting more! It is a fantastic start to this wonderful series. Make sure you check it out!(less)

I’m not impressed with this book. It falls short of nearly ALL of my expectations.

Nick had the whole “young-adult-hot-guy” part, but was missing the “full-of-angst” part that is oh so necessary. Putting that aside, I really did enjoy the way his alien-ness was presented. I liked his amnesia, mainly because it caused the only bit of angst that existed in the book. His powers and his knowledge were fun to read about. I also loved the mysterious race of aliens that he belongs to. I would read more from his point of view, but unfortunately, Ella James only gave us a few chapters from him.

2. The first half of the book was great. Milo (her name does kind of bug me…it’s too masculine of a name) has interesting friends and interesting hobbies. Those are not developed any further in the book at all. But I enjoyed reading about them while they lasted. Milo also meets Nick near the beginning of the book. I enjoyed his mystery and her lame attempts at helping him.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE ABOUT THE BOOK:
1. I feel like the book holds so much potential, but the “action and adventure” appeared too quickly. Nick ran away too soon after meeting Milo and wasted all that time outside in the rain (which was never explained…was this storm part of the “outage” that we THINK was caused by Nick’s appearance but was also never really explained? Although maybe it is in the second book??) and then he randomly shows up again. And what was with the whole party thing? If the party was included simply to bring about more of Nick’s inhuman attributes, it seems like it could have been done in a better way --- or simply show Nick’s abilities in a different way. The party was weird.

2. Milo and Nick get attached to each other too quickly. He is a mysterious guy, so I get the appeal. But she hardly knows him, and yet is willing to risk her life and her mother’s life and everything in order to help him. It seems like the author could have given Milo and Nick more time. Give Milo some time to really get emotionally involved with Nick. And give the readers time to LIKE Milo and Nick together. I don’t like it when two characters are supposed to get together and you know they are supposed to get together, not because they genuinely exhibit feelings for the other, but because the author seems to be putting them together. For example, Nick has feelings for Milo. I know that because the author has put them together. Other than his hand hovering around her back as they run up the stairs near the end of the book, and the fact that he is rescuing her, we have no examples that make us KNOW how he feels. There is a small meeting between them after her piano concert/recital thing, but that left me confused. It might have been helpful for more to be from his POV so we could maybe understand a bit more. Or show us a more emotional side of Nick. That would give us more angst, maybe.

3. I really did not like the way the government is presented in this book. Somehow, I have a hard time imagining that they would trust an ALIEN and an ALIEN’S ACCOMPLICE to a bunch of college-aged “interns” (or at least people who act like college-aged interns) and then give them fake names of Disney characters. We’re talking about a real-life alien! But, then again, this is a book. So maybe I need to be more forgiving of the image of the government that the author wants to give her readers. Oh, well.

Perhaps the reason I feel so disappointed is that I was really looking forward to this book. It got such great reviews, and it’s an ALIEN STORY! I LOVE alien stories!!! I seek out alien books specifically (no lie) because I love them so much. The end of this book ends in a pretty good cliffhanger. And when it ended, I actually had a battle in my brain: do I read the second one or do I just quit now? I still have not decided. I think I will likely read it, because just as much as I love aliens, I also have this insane need to know how things end.

Review: I love, love, loved Ella’s Stained Series so I thought I’d give this one a chance! I’m really happy I did. Here has all the elements I love about Ella’s writing: moving characters, intense plot line. The best part about her books is that it’s like a roller-coaster, you just have to hold on during the ups and downs until the big finish! This novel has proved to me that Ella is here to stay in the YA writing world and will be for awhile.

I really thought it was cool that the main character Milo was a girl and loved the wilderness and hunting. The beginning was a bit slow for me but it picked up so I didn’t even mind. I really could picture the beautiful scenes of Milo’s home and the creek where she found Nick. I liked the Gatsby references A LOT! It was really cool to me to have to mix so well into a modern novel. Not to mention that it added another layer to Milo’s character.

I was weary of Nick, because I thought he was going to turn into a cold aloof character. He didn’t though. Once Ella James got the story going his character really warmed up and his memories of Milo were awesome.

I really enjoyed this novel. It’s a solid start to a series that I am excited to see move into book two. I also can’t wait for any other book coming out by Ella.

She does what anyone would do in such a situation – she takes him home and patches him up.
Then, strange things start happening. The power goes out in the entire area, the TV somehow works without the use of a generator, and the boy – who Milo decided to call Nick – starts having very weird and creepy moments. Nick knows something isn’t right. He can’t remember a single thing about who he is but he can remember all kinds of crazy scientific details. He can fix things without knowing how, and recall all the details in all his textbooks, even though he has no memory of ever learning it. Milo begins to realize that whoever Nick is, she needs to keep his identity – his new identity a secret.
Then the Department of Defense shows up and all hell breaks loose. Chaos ensues, drama erupts, motorbike chases are had, and in the moments of life and death, declarations are made. All the ingredients of a good old action packed paranormal romance.
So WHO is exactly is Nick? Well I’m not going to tell you that, but I will say that my first suspicions were incorrect. My second hunch was also a miss, but I got it on the third, and let me tell you, I was pretty excited by the whole thing. It’s been a while since I’ve read anything involving THESE kinds of creatures.
Milo is one of those characters that is easy to read. Being inside her head is simple because she’s a pretty ordinary girl. She makes irrational choices occasionally and fusses a lot of over Nick – but I think that can be pretty typical of girls her age. She doubts herself sometimes, which is also typical of girls her age, and I wanted to smack her once or twice, but that makes her all the more believable.
Nick acts in the interest of self-preservation a lot, which I loved! While it’s clear there’s definitely an emotional connection between himself and Milo, and he also acts to make sure Milo is safe, he gets himself out of the sticky situations and makes sure HE is safe too. So many YA heroes and heroines these days are completely self sacrificing of their own safety and needs in order to ‘protect’ the one they love. There aren’t too many REAL sixteen-year-olds that I know that wouldn’t try and save themselves first in the face of danger.
Here was a great start to what I’m expecting to be a compelling series. Ella James, bring on installment number two!

Wow, this was a great story. I wonder how I missed this author but when I got a hold of this book, I found an author that I knew I was going to follow from here on out. I liked this book. Though it was a little slow at first it soon picks up. This was a first for me I have not read these kinds of Ya books before (I won’t tell you what kind it will rune the book) but it did leave me wanting to know the rest of the story. The ending was a bit abrupt. I think it could have ended in a better spot because it was just cut off. But I would defiantly recommend it to a friend. Let me take a second to show this cover some love. It's simple, it's black and white, and it's magnificent. Seriously, how could you not be drawn to this cover and the guy with the awesome bone structure and perfectly quaffed hair?

We start off by meeting a giggling group of teen girls. Among them is Milo, who loves her three friends very much, but is starting to feel disconnected from them as their lives start taking different paths. Since I was once a teenager(not so long ago it seems), I could relate to her very much in that sense! Finding true self in high school when you have more than one friend is a struggle at times, especially when you've gone through some traumatic events such as Milo.

She really struck me as awesome when you find out she's continued her Dad's deer tracking research and she lives out in the boondocks where they produce and sell natural energy from their turbines. Basically, Milo was who I wanted to be when I was younger! How cool would it be to grow up like that? Maybe it's just my hippie self that thinks that, but I'm already pretty jealous of her.

But her life gets about ten times more confusing when she aims for a fawn, and in its place, a handsome young man appears in a suit and tie. She handles it much better than I would have, if I would have shot someone with a dart gun. The boy doesn't remember anything prior to the moment he wakes up and sees Milo's face. She dubs him Nick, and together they set out to try and solve the mystery of his past.

I like that we get to see into glimpse of Nick's mind. He's a mystery to us and of course, I was always craving to learn more about him, but how could we when he didn't even know about himself? The connection between Milo and Nick can be seen right from the start, and I really enjoyed the innocent lust that you feel between the two of them. It was sweet and a testament to young love, one which I'm sure all of us have felt at one point or another.

My favorite part in Here was when the action finally kicked in. Nick and Milo are chased by FBI agents and Nick's 'powers' are starting to come out in full swing. I felt like I was hanging onto the back of the motorcycle with them and experiencing being hunted as well. Once they are in the underground building, I knew the book was ending, and I wasn't ready for that to happen. I wanted to know more! I need to know more! However, even though I was disappointed it ended, I wasn't disappointed in the ending, especially since I know Trapped, book two, is coming out so soon!

Milo Mitchell is living an unremarkable existence. After the death of her beloved father she takes up his hobby of tagging deer. There is not much for her to do on the weekends now that her and her friends are growing apart. Sitting in her tree house she sets her mark on an untagged deer. She rarely misses. I don't know why, but being back with my babies makes me think of one phrase: I'm single and ready to mingle. Just leave me and my nonsense be.

Despite being disappointed, I actually liked this book. The problem is, I found it all very cliche. Girl meets Boy (doesn't matter how), Boy is some supernatural being, Girl is determined to protect Boy (which I always find very stupid), Girl makes everything harder for Boy, Girl and Boy end up captured or on the run. Too typical.

I have liked books that are cliche in that way, but it's usually not so annoying. And by it, I mean the girl. Man, I hated Milo. She had absolutely no reason to involve herself with him, and at one point, I felt like she was making up random excuses just to involve herself. I don't have the book with me right now, and I'm Queen Lazy so obviously I'm not going to get it, but there was a part where she was thinking "I don't want to be left behind" or something like that. IT'S NOT A TRIP TO THE MALL. IT'S YOUR LIFE MILO. YOUR LIFE. AND HIS LIFE. SO DON'T BE AN IDIOT, DON'T BE SELFISH, AND JUST BACK OFF. Obviously, she didn't listen to me. I'm done talking about her. It's infuriating.

I think starting off with the male lead's hotness is becoming tradition.

NICK. OR GABE. WHOEVER YOU ARE. YOU ARE cute. I'm sorry for leading you on like that, but he stopped being hot. When you find out that he stole Gabe's body, it's like, what if the actual Nick in there is ugly? Sorry, but it is a complete turn off having that thought running through your mind. Other than that, Nick was pretty cool. I liked how he knew everything. Usually, I hate a know-it-all, but it was different in "Here". All I could think was, "OMFG THAT IS THE COOLEST THING. HOW MANY FINGERS AM I HOLDING UP?!". Although it was cool, I kept wondering... All those things that he and Milo had in common, was it him or Gabe?

Just really quickly, I wanted to say... UM HELLO?! MOM?!
What kind of mother is that? I don't like it when a mother is too strict, but come on. That was way too loose. I found it too typical, once again, that the father is dead, and the mother isn't even on planet Earth anymore, really. I have a feeling that there is a reason Ella James wanted to have the father dead, and I think it'll have a big impact later on in the series, but it annoyed me that the mother was barely there. It made things way too easy for Milo, and it was way too impractical and unrealistic.

I know I gave this book 3 stars, and I see that I said quite a lot of negative things, but I did like this book. However, if you're going to read this, I suggest you don't read it after reading an amazing book.(less)

Two words, It Rocked! Well during my hurricane experience I was alone in the dark with my Nook and I chose to read Here. Boy I am glad I made that choice. Here is a very engaging Sci Fi novel that you don't want to miss. You can't help but get lost in the world of Nick and Milo.
I kept wondering 'Who is this guy?' and 'What will happen?'

I’ll just take a moment here to mention that I lived in Wheat Ridge, Colorado which bumps up against Golden, for several years – so this was a nice surprise. I know Golden, I know where the Wal-Mart is, and I could totally picture the King Soopers down on Youngfield. So that was weird, but in a good way. There were some local details that were off – like the mention of Pikes Peak in relation to Golden. But all in all I enjoyed the setting a lot.

HERE is one cool book if you’re a SF fan – and I am. I have two science degrees so I like a story that actually follows the rules, or at the very least, takes things that we know to be true and weaves a new way to look at them, or creates a whole civilization about them. This is what HERE did. I won’t get into the specifics except to say that the “beings’ in HERE totally reminded me of the shatterlings in Alastair Reynolds' House of Suns. I loved that book, absolutely loved that book. So that comparison is also a good thing.

If you're not in SF, just trust that everything Ella puts into this story makes scientific sense. Don't question it because it does all fit. Just go along for the ride.

In addition – I loved Milo. She’s a damaged girl – one who has really deep issues that I’d really like to know more about. We get very small glimpses here and there about Milo’s mental status throughout the book, but all in all I trusted her, I trusted that she was competent during this story even if she had some issues previously, and I wanted her to be mentally sound.

Nick was a so-so character for me – even with his additional POV, I was not as concerned with Nick like I was Milo. I think it’s because we really didn’t get enough answers about him, so that will probably come in the next book.

The story is original, I rooted for Milo and Nick by extension, and this is a series that I will continue to read.

I believe this book is young adult but there is really no school time in here, so that’s part of the reason I liked it. There is drug use at a party, but Milo does not partake. I’m OK with that, but normally I don't care for drug use in books, especially YA books, unless there's an anti-drug message in there somewhere.

All in all I give 5 stars and I am eagerly awaiting the next book TRAPPED!

What an imaginative and unexpected story. Talk about being drawn in...I really loved Here. Milo is a quirky, fun and interesting character. She gets under your skin immediately. And Nick? Wow! He's the type of character you "have to know", yet he remains an exotic mystery for a good portion of the book.
Once things get moving, your mind starts racing and calculating, just like Milo's, trying to find your footing and getting to the root of what was happening. I had a few ideas right away, but Ell...more

Eeeiiiiishhh...It seems like only me who didn't like this book.
How to describe why? Hmmmm....

I've read that this biook was slow to start in some reviews however I found that I had a hard time not wanting to keep reading.
