Walking the boardwalk can be lots of fun. You can take a walk in the fog or have a nice jog. You can blow bubbles and fly a kite. You can have an ice cream cone or pizza snack. Arcade games are great to play or you can pick out a toy or t-shirt while your there.

What a great book! My friend Kelly Ramsdell Fineman's new book, At the Boardwalk, is out! And it's wonderful. The rhyme and meter are perfect, and the storyline is terrific. I was going to buy this book when I saw it on Barnes & Noble's picture book wall Sunday (whee!), but there was a long line and one cashier. I will be buying it soon, though!

This book is set at a boardwalk and goes through a full day of adventure and excitement (and exhaustion). Even if you've got no boardwalk near you (l
Little Kid Reaction: Review pending.

Big Kid Reaction: At first I was frustrated with the level of repetition, but once I got into the rhythm, they made it fun. This is a book you'll read slowly. There is a lot kids will want to explore in the illustrations well after you've finished reading the two stanzas.

Pros: Family together time, humor, and plenty of visual cues will make this a fun read for kids getting ready to go to the beach.

I thought this was a really fun book about the boardwalk!

The illustration are lively, but not overpowering.
Sometimes the boardwalk can be too much.

But it's handled in this book very well!
There are short rhymes about different things you can do,
so the boardwalk is taken in, chunk by chunk,

and we see all the ways you can spend a day at the boardwalk.

Living in Santa Cruz, I think this book is PERFECT to read before or after going on a trip to the boardwalk!

This book's illustrations make me absolutely ill. Oh look! A multicultural variety of children frolicking with their families at the boardwalk. Oh what's that? The little boy of Asian descent and his grandfather are YELLOW with CHINKY EYES? Are you KIDDING me? Whaaaaaat?

I felt like this was an illustrated poem. The rhyming story captures the sounds, sights, and flavors of spending a day at the boardwalk. The illustrations are subtle with warm colors and soft lines. This picture book is for grades PK-3. Very enjoyable book, I would recommend it.
