Get ready for a roller-coaster ride of emotions in Loni Flowers' debut novel. You'll fall in love with Clair and Alex from the very first chapter and won't be able let go. This page turner will have you smiling, crying, yelling, and taking cold showers from how hot it becomes. Taking Chances is a heart-warming novel about learning to love unconditionally after overcoming life's hardships.
Flowers has set herself up with a hard act to follow, but I look forward to reading much more from her.

I haven't read many books about homeless people or the situations that put them there. This is the heartbreaking yet heartwarming story of two people who both have many demons in their past. You would think a relationship between these two is impossible, I mean, 2 wrongs don't make a right... but their chemistry and love is undeniable from the start.

I really love the time I spent reading about Alex and Clair. Their story was a contemporary romance that had the charm of a young adult book but the feel and content of a more grown up story. There are some sexy times since they are in their early 20’s but they are well written and sweet, not too graphic.

Taking Chances is about two people with troubled pasts that find each other when Alex rescues Clair from and attempted raping. They fall for each fast, and quickly enter into a hot relationship. There isn't a LOT of drama, mostly just them figuring out their relationship as it progresses, but there are a couple of situations in the book where they have heated arguments, which for me was about all the drama the book had. Alex's past is terrible, and I really felt for him. But he told Clair everyt...more
Of all the trials and tribulations that life can throw at you love is one of the most difficult. It can make you, break you, confine you or define you. It’s what we all search for, and most certainly what we all need. Whether it be the selfless love of your parents, or the understanding love of a best-friend; it remains the most challenging of circumstances to accept, and more importantly the hardest to let go of.

You know, this was lovely, even if a bit unrealistic at times. I mean, what are the chances?
It did start out a bit slow, but then it picked up and the pace was perfect then. Pretty good writing, too. There are some sex scenes but they're not all that graphic.
I really liked Alex. He comes into her life when she needs him the most, and I'm not just talking about the assault. He is not a serial womanizer and a jerk that undergoes this major change, but a genuinely nice guy that has a painful past,...more

Taking Chances was such an enjoyable read and I am so very happy for having come across this title. Thank you Amazon lol. This story starts with Clair's POV, the girl who left home after her mother completely checked out and has been on the streets for years. She ends up in the one place she shouldn't but ends up being the only place she should be in. Here we meet Alex(the second POV) and it didn't take long to meet him which I appreciate. He and Clair have an immediate connection but both are w...more
Anyone who has ever been to my blog knows I do not read very many contemporary novels. It has to really grab my attention. I'm so happy I had the opportunity to read Taking Chances. It was a great read, and hard to put down.
Clair and Alex have had a few bad things happen to them. Clair finds it hard to trust people and believes all guys are the same. They lie, use her, then bail. Even worse, she feels abandoned after her father left their family when she was 13. Alex has had his heart broken in...more

Taking Chances by Loni Flowers
I really enjoyed Loni Flowers writing, Taking Chances is her debut novel; Loni’s writing is good, the story was easy to follow, character descriptions were great. This is a good romance novel and I have to say the author’s writing makes you feel for both of the two main characters. It’s one of those books you cheer for Alex and Clair hoping it all ends with a Happy Ever After ending.

Remember all those wonderful Hallmark movies . . . the kind that make you want to curl up with a bowl of popcorn and settle in for a good tale? You know there’s going to conflict, emotional ups and downs, tears (some of them your own) but, in the end, you expect to walk away with a warm, glowing feeling. Well, Taking Chances is the equivalent of a Hallmark movie.

I like reading stories about people who've had a tough life, but can find happiness and love. That's what appealed to me the most about this book. It was a great story about finding love.
My heart hurt for Clair. I wasn't really sure why she was on the streets at the beginning, but it made me scared for her. She's a sweet girl, but a bit vulnerable too. You can tell that she's been damaged in some way. When she meets Alex, her luck begins to change.

Have you ever thought to yourself ‘Can I or should I’? We examine life with these questions everyday in different situations that alter our lives in the present and the future. Taking Chances battles this ubiquitous question throughout the entire novel. Clair having seen hard times since her father left abruptly leaving her with a mother drowning in depression. After wondering from town to town she meets Alex also battling with his past. This book follows two characters as they battle through ne...more
From beginning to end Loni Flowers never lets you down, you embark on an emotional rollercoaster that you never want to get off of. From the moment you start the book to the very last page you can't help but want more, turning each page simply becomes tear jerking as you see Alex and Clair as yourself living their lives each moment.

An emotional, intense, romantic and gripping story that had my laughing, crying and holding onto my seat in suspense many times over. Even those who are not into contemporary romance will enjoy this wonderfully written story.

What can I say about this book??
Hmm...its an interesting story, intriguing and gives tension at the first chapter which grabs my attention.
And sweet at the same time.
At the beginning of the story at first I was wondering.
what are the ages of the characters in this story? I can't help it because the way the characters acted and talked they look like a teenagers. Like Stu and Roz for example, I thought they are somewhat 20+ something, but then they are much older than that.

Taking Chances had some great moments and some so/so moments. Our lead characters have dark backgrounds that bring them together and ultimately bond them to each other. They understand one another in a way no other person could. Great start.
Our hero really is a hero. He saves Clair in the beginning and indirectly continues to save her throughout the story. Clair is a mess. She struggles to get her life back together. The only part of her story I had trouble with is the way she ended up homeless....more
This book made me smile, laugh and cry all at the same time. It was so well written and I loved the characters from the beginning. The perfect feel good story! I'm not usually one for contemporary romance, but Loni did an excellent job. I read this story from start to finish in one afternoon, I just couldn't put it down! I wouldn't recommend this for teens, do to some sex scenes but they weren't overly descriptive and were modestly written. So I would say it's more appropriate for an 18+ reader.
It is a good romantic read about Alex and Clair who either lost or was estranged from their immediate family and found a surrogate family in the town of Springhill. Alex and Clair crossed paths when he rescued her from being attacked by a couple of guys. From that point on, they began a relationship and their compatibility was driven by similar life experiences of wandering from town to town without any stability. Curveballs were thrown into their relationship and the path to figuring things out...more
I’m more of a paranormal book reader 90% of the time but WOW I loved this book I started this book in the morning and I finished the same night all 367 pages. I could not bring myself to put this book down. What a beautiful story, heartfelt and real, you can really picture yourself right there with the characters and feel what they feel. I laughed and cried a few times, the things Clair & Alex have been though and how strong they are and willing to make things better amazes me. Also their st...more
I won this as a part of the goodreads giveaways. This book was kinda stop and go for me. I loved the characters and the plot line, however I wasn't completely satisfied with the way she wrote it. (or maybe I'm just weird). Taking Chances was a good romance book, one that you could just curl up and enjoy.
I know I suck giving reviews but I so love this book. I swear I read the book in just one sitting. Once you got hold of this book, it will be hard to put it down. I totally adore Alex. *dreamy sigh* It totally deserved a FIVE STAR rating. :)
When you find a way to pull all the shattered pieces of your life back together, sometimes love is the only force strong enough to hold them in place.
In Taking Chances, Loni Flowers shows us that we can learn to accept our mistakes and heal our regrets with forgiveness and love, and that true love can find us, sometimes, at the worst of times … when we need it the most.
A warm read with steamy love scenes and a wonderful twist in the end.
I look forward to Loni's next novel.

This was such a precious story! I loved every minute I spent with the characters, their journey, and the chances they took. It made me laugh and it made me cry, several times. Loni Flowers did a remarkable job on this debut novel and I look forward to reading more for her in the future! Full Review Coming Soon!
