Suspenseful, Stunning Regency—a Classic!

What a wonderful romance! It’s superbly written and kept me up reading way too late. It’s the captivating story of a rich American in Regency London and a waif of a young woman who lost her place in the aristocracy due to one man’s evil. (The villains in this story—and there are more than one, although one is more evil than the others—are some of the best I’ve encountered.)

It begins in 1796 when Hester Devlin, Dowager Countess of St. Audries is dying just

OUR HERO is an arresting and compelling man who obviously doesn't want to get married etc etc. When his pockets got picked by none other than PIP our heroine, he catches her red handed and there in our story begins. He takes her back home and eventually she works as a servant there before things escalate and the classic rape scene is thro
Whisper to Me of Love was first published in 1991 and is set in Regency England. I noticed good reviews on it and decided to read it. It really wasn't a bad read but I must confess I'm in the minority and didn't think it was all that great. The plot itself was one that appealed to me but the execution of it didn't totally work. It had all the right elements but I guess Shirlee Busbee just isn't to my taste.

So I threw in a bit more morsels for all of you to enjoy than I usually do within the excerpt and highlight. I did so because Whisper To Me Of Love is a bit longer then the average novel length. Seems to me that the average length is somewhere between 380 and 420 pages based on my own observations. But this book gives you cake and some icing to go with it at 554 pages. Weeeee! And the

I had trouble getting into this book. The author lives in the Covelo area and Mom knows of her so I felt obligated to read the book. Tough time sticking to it. I like the era. early 1800's. Good story line too. Young girl born to high society, her mother and father both died and she was supposed to be killed herself, but was instead raised as a pickpocket. As a young adult she married a wealthy man who she loved but she did not believe he loved her. All the scandal surrounding her birth eventual ...more
Read 8/2014. good book & storyline!... there was a mystery involved kinda like Scooby Doo style with one man playing hide-and-seek... the only issue was the length it was a bit too long for that type of storyline around +500 pages, Busbee could have ended the story at less than 400, there was some repetitiveness involved. I got kinda bored towards the last few chapters and started skimming the rest up until the end..Loved the ending though

Busbee's writing reminded me of Fern Michael's thoug

Definitely a page turner. Plot & characters are well developed. Romance wasn't bad but the mystery element was quite well written although certain parts were concluded rather abruptly and simply.

I guess the emotional bit was lacking in some areas but the author compensated it with humor (great, funny dialogue between the hero and heroine).

Overall, it was an enjoyable read albeit a rather long one ;)
...more

maybe 3 1/2. the first part of the book was quite rocky, but it smoothed out through the second half. also, I cannot overlook the irregularities of her writing and inconsistencies with British culture. but the plot, which could have gotten completely out of control, was resolved well.
