A great book for introducing young people to some of the facets of black history. Told by way of the 2007 cross country odyssey by horseback of Miles Dean from one coast of the USA to the other, the book encompasses not only his heroic journey but the many historical connections he finds along the way. Written in a clear and readable style, it helped me to discover parts of American history that had not come to my attention before. Recommended for anyone age 9 and up.
