Saoirse's life didn't really begin until it ended: When a plane crashes, Saoirse wakes up in 'the After,' a place where everything is exactly what you want, unless what you want is to not be there.

Confused at first, Saoirse's new... life?... takes a turn for the (more) unexpected when William Howard Taft knocks on her door and says he knows a way out. From there, Saoirse t

This is an amazing novel that's much lovelier than "The Lovely Bones." When Saorise dies in a plane crash (or does she?) she finds herself in the afterlife that seems a bit off. She realizes things are off when her kids all seem to get along during dinner. Things get even more wrong when William Howard Taft (the former president) shows up.

The rest of the book is a beautifully sad journey through the afterlife. Unlike "The Lovely Bones" there's no jarring juxtaposition between grisly murders and

In life, death is one of the greatest mysteries. "The After" by Briane Pagel explores the notion of an afterlife and gives us a tale of people who were taken too soon from this world.

His holiness, the Dalai Lama says, “I believe that the very purpose of life is to be happy. From the very core of our being, we desire contentment. So, as usual, let's start with the technicals and get the bad stuff out of the way. Briane's not much of an editor. He admits that he doesn't find it to be fun so doesn't spend much time on it. I'm pretty sure he doesn't do any editing on his blog posts, and they don't tend to have more than the occasional typo. the After, though, could have used some more editing. A lot more in all actuality. On the plus side, there are no ...more

The After by Briane Pagel is awesome. Briane Pagel is about the rarest gem of a writer I’ve come across. I’m pretty sure that his work tends to get overlooked, as I rarely see him doing guest posts or blog tours, and his editions tend to have funny covers with almost no text (although his paperback covers tend to look nice).

But that just makes me appreciate him more. It’s like I’ve discovered one of the more notable writers of my era and only a handful of folks even know who he is. It’s pretty c
